When I lived in San Antonio, the hardest part of understanding directions was the inevitable focus on "where X used to be." That "used to be" factor isn't helpful to people who haven't lived in the neighborhood for 20 years or more.

As a "hearing impaired" person, I rely on facial expressions and gestures to help me confirm what I thought my ears heard someone say. Even if I don't hear the words clearly, I can tell what the conversation's about in a general sense.

Sounds wacky, but I can see how this would work. It'd be especially cost-effective for areas who don't get regular flooding but still want to be prepared for that "100 year flood."

Really funny stuff here! Yes, that is what Southern women say, and said the way they say it. All you actresses who fake the accent badly, should have this video on a loop. [Hint: it's all about the vowels.]

From what I've read about the autobahn, the road is built a LOT differently than we build them here in the US. Thicker (1 foot thick vs the US's 6 inches thick), different surface and there are stringent rules about how many degrees a curve can be. In Europe, it takes a year's worth of training and about a $1,000 to get a driver's license.

I haven't tried a cinnamon/cocoa mix, but that's on my agenda now! Once I forgot that'd I'd ground up some black pepper and forgotten to clean it out before grinding up coffee beans. Ended up with a slightly peppery coffee that turned out to be pretty darn good.

The popper kind tastes fresher and a bit crispier. It smell better, too. You can also pop it using a bit of flavored oil or butter, too. Or if you're just plain lazy, you can put popcorn in a regular paper bag (fold the top over) and pop it in the microwave like that.
