Having been in one union or another for decades, I can tell you that sometimes they are the only recourse for workplace justice available to the common worker, and at other times, they are just a bunch of crooks who steal your dues.
But in the end, I certainly would rather have a union to help keep my workplace safe and fair rather than just rely on the good will of the company.
One thing about the old classical music is that we've had centuries to separate the good from the bad. Modern classical hasn't been sorted yet; We're in the middle of it all, both good and bad.
Look at it this way: 80's music is pretty cool, right? But having been around in the 80's, I can tell you that there was a lot of bad music then... a LOT. But now we just remember the hits.
Once all the garbage has been sorted out, I'm sure some fine pieces of modern classical will emerge.
You just have to love Brasilieros! What an elegant and sensible solution. I can't help but think that, here in the United States, this would quickly turn into a war of lawsuits.
