Its about 10 feet tall and back in the days before TV and nice cars people took pride in things like having a very large bell. The Great Bell is referred to as "Big Ben". While it is acceptable to call the tower/clock/bell unit "Big Ben" to refer to either the clock or the tower alone as "Big Ben" is incorrect.
