Lot of people struggling to get money no matter how. They do not realise they have "friends" around because of their money. They also forget that the only thing to carry on when die, is what ever they had done to be happy and make others happy as well. I think this guy really wants to go back to the real happiness; I mean when he was poor. Perhaps at that time he hadn't the money but he had people around who would do anything for him, at any time.
