It wasn't always alone. The slopes of that valley used to hold a city known as "The Turquoise Mountain" that most historians consider to be a fable much like the city of Troy was.
Residents of the area have so thoroughly plundered the valley that I doubt anything of significance remains...as far as I can recall, there were some archeologists working there prior to the Soviet invasion, but no serious attempt to dig since.
