now THAT is beautiful lawnmower.

has anyone else noticed the colour gredations in the naval fluff? surely only a fool would leave their lint archive exposed to sunlight...this collection should be rescued from its owner for the sake of the nation before any more damage occurs.

my dad lost his sight at 18, and when my brother and i were little, he would routinely thrash us at snooker. unsurprisingly my friends were a little sceptical of his condition. he also re-plumbed and re-wired the house, before re-building the kitchen, and was chief T.O at Eltham telephone exchange, which was fitted out with braille labels for him on the ends of all the switch-gear rows. his bowling was terrible incidently...

this gives me an excuse to spout off about a book i've just read called 'the air loom gang' by mike jay. it's the story of james tilley mathews, who because of his complex paranoid delusions and the ambitions of the apothecary at bethlem, co-instigated what is widely held to be the birth of psychiatry. he was also the first person recorded to have delusions about an 'influencing machine' (the air loom) controlling his thoughts. before him, it was all demons, witches etc.

it seems the freakshow image of the bethlem hospital is a bit of a caricature - there were plenty of mad people kicking around london anyway, so paying a penny to go and see more wasn't on the agenda for most. the bethlem mostly failed as an institution because it was built on the cheap. it's an absolutely superb book. i'll shut up now.

thank you review stew. this is guff.

its a wing of the pythagorean 'harmony of the spheres' school of musicology and its numerous descendants (which 99% of the world's music has nothing to do with - can somebody supply some golden section/non golden section statistics for the worlds music please?)

this is just abrogation of wider social responsibilities. everyone's scared of getting stabbed now, so no-one risks confrontation, and out of sight is out of mind.
like most acoustic warfare though, you just need earplugs or even closed back headphones. or a can of builder's foam and a ladder...

i think there should be an infrasound version for the idiots who install these things.
