We thought the future was going to be so progressive however we are only taking steps back as we find we went to far away from simple things that worked. Our progressive behavior lead to consumerism which is using and demanding all our resources. When we run low to the point where we cannot sustain ourselves we will be forced to reach farther into space and continue to reak havoc... or we will return to our old ways and use the simple sustainable technologies we might have used long ago or ones that we skipped like a crack in the ground as we hoped from one technology to the next.
