I don't think the labels correspond to the chemicals in the crayons, as the above article implies. Some are highly toxic, others are gaseous, and some are very expensive. Also, the etsy page seems (to me) to suggest these chemicals are just the same colour as the crayons.

One of the best features of Google Patents is that the main page displays 5 patents randomly selected from some archive of very interesting American patents. In addition to the Van Halen patent above, you'll find "A method of exercising a cat" (using a laser pointer), the original patents for Monopoloy, Transformers, and Magic: The Gathering, and the famous patent for a combover.

I love Nathan's works. I'd stumbled across bits and pieces, but I learned heaps about him after he was chosen as a Geek a Week. He had his own Jepoardy category, you know.

This is a really clever tattoo. Subtle, personal, unique. Everything I'd want mine to be if I even got the courage to get one.

I've admired Langdon's work since Dan Brown used them in Angels & Demons (naming the main character after him in thanks). He always manages to get ambigrams that are clearly legible, which it the most important thing. Other ambigrams you might stumble onto on the web are often difficult to make out.

The concept is fascinating, but 18 people? That's not a study, that's a joke. Whether a real study wolud bear these interesting results out is one thing, but nothing so small should be considered factual.

Sigh... Say it with me everybody. Correlation does not imply causation.

The article didn't the actual study, so I couldn't be sure, but a survey such as this often fails to recognise the fact that both internet usage and productivity might be the result of a third factor. My guess would be age: younger people would both be more likely to use the internet and more likely to be familiar with the tchnology in the job. Maybe. As I say, I couldn't see the actual data or anything.

While I haven't done the Milford Track, I have walked the nearby Heaphy, which was largely opened to relieve demand for the Milford. It's a not-serious joke that the Milford is the tourist track, but that's because it's so popular, because it's so great.

It's kind of funny, since it's my own country, I don't have the same awe about places like Fiordland that other would, and indeed they probably deserve. But I would absolutely recommend it.
