Hmmm...I cant tell if the labeling is weird and Palestine is what's replaced by Luxembourg, or if the area Luxembourg is in is the Golan Heights and East Jerusalem. It looks like the map they chose chopped off the internationally-unrecognized annex of those Jordanian areas and made them their own country. Odd.

Interesting that they decided to go with countries and outlying areas, though I suppose that the map wouldn't really match up if they didn't.

Israel is replaced by Estonia, and Lebanon is apparently the Solomon Islands...which I guess is its own country and I really didn't know that. Palestinian Territory is Luxembourg.

Perhaps not as blunt, but there's a similar sign at our school student center. It says "The water in the toilets may be gray. This is because it is collected rainwater gathered to save the environment. It is not potable."

Thankfully, this stopped me from continuing to refill my water bottle in the toilets after they installed the collection system.

Well...as ridiculous as they are, I find these less ridiculous than some shit that some people who celebrate conspicuous consumption do. Putting pointless gold flakes in your meals (for $250 a capsule) just gives you sparkly poo; at least this has something tangible and visible for a couple days.

I'd like to know more about the history of the vase.

As for the sum, I think it was just business men being dicks with their money just because they could :p China's already very stratified, but some people like to prove that even though they're in the top 0.05% of the population, they can still top the chump down the street who is willing to spend slightly less on an old vase.

I've been studying endogenous retroviruses for a couple years now and they're truly fascinating things, especially when they're activated. I highly recommend the Discover article- easy to read and very interesting.

This actually sounds like a really freaking awesome idea, especially as a 1-for-1 type program.

I wanna see what happens if it turns into a more commercial organization...could they charge interest? Borrow 4 does, let them have kids, but when you repay, you have to add a goat? It could be like a stock market investment! Does twin a good deal of the time, but not always...you could end up with a bunch of single births or infertility and have a (contextually) pretty bad ROI...or you could have all your does twin!

I dunno, that doesn't sound particularly fun, but potty training and dealing with a pubescent kid seems worse. Well, I've heard potty training isn't necessarily terrible, but I can't see a way that pubescent kids could be tolerable in any way.

I actually find this sort of hilarious, but with our idiotically litigious society, some dude's gonna either gain weight specifically to eat there and sue for the health costs or some dude's gonna eat himself to death there, and someone's getting sued.

The concept of the restaurant has always struck me as funny, but I'd never eat there...and it's actually mostly because they don't have any diet sodas. I'm under no impression that a lard-burger can be offset by a diet pepsi, but I heart me some diet pepsi and get sick when drinking the regular stuff.

I could see my dad wearing this on big meeting days if he didn't, you know, have the freaking sense not to wear his work clothes while he bikes to work. Who DOES that?

I've worked with powdered caffeine in the past and I'm pretty sure there wasn't a massive danger in just working with it; I was 12 years old and wasn't made to wear any safety equipment :\

Anyway I've gotten to the point of serious heart palpitations and visual problems many times during college, so I have no doubt that it's not too difficult to OD on it.

Excellent! I've been trying to find a larger pool of those pictures.

Fred-What do you expect? It's a rally hosted by comedians, and at least one of the comedians who has tried to stay firmly out of real politicking until now.

This is sort of like the whole "ultra-low calorie" diet thing in order to extend life. Sure, cellular metabolism/division might be slowed enough to add 15 years to your life, but at 700 calories a day? Gonna venture a guess and say it's not worth it for most people. Given that proponents of the diet say that they're always hungry I'll take a pass on it (just like I'd take a pass on this one if I were a dude).
