@Rich - Where did you read that Vlaicu's plane was taken in 1916? The article says "Eventually, the Nazi’s seized the plane during their occupation of Budapest and it was lost at some point during the war."
Seems to me that the Nazis seized the plane (when there were Nazis around Budapest), that's all it says.
