There are a lot of places on earth wher you will die in seconds, minutes, days or al least weeks when not provided with a lot of little helpers... The 90 light year trip is what keeps me from even considering this trip.. it is just too boring.. or deadly or both...
We have not established a Moon or Mars colony... wich is sad... but i think that human life on Mars is possible, as soon as the energy problem is solved... bit before we should at least be able to get something like Biosphere 2 or the like running..
However, if it would be possilbe ot provide proof that there are life forms on other plantes, no matter what shape or in which state of evolution, this may help to end all these religious supersititions....

There are a lot of life forms that consider 57 degrees Celsius well habitable...

In my opinion evolution is not dfioven by impovement. Evolution works the other way: every individual of each generation has a few variations.. Then evolution places a few boundary conditions and constraints, and selects the best among them... This survival of the fittest is more a kind of "preventing reproduction of below threschold level fitness"... And here is the bad news... if you want to have evolution to remove bad backs form humans, you just challenge the universe or the environmental conditions to stop all humans with below threschold backs to stop reproducing... Which would presumably select me and you out of the gene pool... In my view evolution is more a kind of maniac killing everything it doesn't consider fit enough according to a short time mood than the great improover... Take a look at all the extinct species... there are in my opinion much more that the few ones still foraging on this planet... I took me myself a long time to adopt this view oin evolution. By the way, i think the Walmart-thing is something completely different... and is presumably not so much related to evolution...

I would bet doughnuts to dollars, that this assumption is presumably not right... Of cause if it becomes widely available, it is concievable that non-friendly operations of non law abiding citizens may occurr. But.. It is a very special device having a very special application range. It is indeed very cool and i would like to have one... but i expect that the cost for a single shot are in the range of these taser device... And it has nearly no scaring effect. And it is loud! What would be your reaction if someone would threaten you to fire such a bola at you? The only suitable applicaiton seems for me that it can be used in situations wher a taser might be a considerable threat to someone's health.
