There is something unspeakably sad about seeing such majestic creatures constrained in this way. The life span of whale sharks kept under such conditions is drastically shortened from their expected norm. Keep that in mind while you goggle at this spectacle.
We were fortunate enough as kids to have a pet wombat. My mother was a wildlife rescue officer and we would be brought all kinds of injured animals to nurse back to health. "Mrs Wiggles the Wily Wommbat" came into our lives after her mother was killed on the road and she was rescued from the pouch and bottle reared. She lived with us for many years and was a wonderful animal with many amusing character traits. We had to place her with a wildlife sanctuary when we moved from our farm but she lived to a grand old age. She was fascinated with water and if the bathroom door wasn't securely locked when you had a shower or bath she'd let herself in to join in the fun. We thought it was great fun as kids but it used to alarm any guests who came to stay! She was very affectionate and loved a scratch. I don't ever recall her biting anyone. It's over 40 years ago now but I miss her and remember her with much fondness.
