Liverpool Students Placed in Temporary Accommodations Because Their Rooms Weren't Ready on Move-in Day

Hundreds of students in Liverpool were left shocked, angry, and disappointed after they received emails saying that their rooms weren't ready to be occupied on the day they were supposed to move in. So they were given alternative accommodation instead which wasn't on par with what they paid for. The Tab reports:

Hundreds of Liverpool students set to move into the Calibo Building were left in limbo after they were told their rooms weren't ready.
The new tenants were told their new accommodation would be uninhabitable for another four weeks despite having already paid a £100 deposit and eight weeks' rent.
New tenants have been placed in alternative accommodation also owned by Fresh Student Living in the city until the Calico Building is finished.
The delay has left many students unable to settle in, and some have no alternative but to commute into Liverpool each day from home or rent a storage facility to keep their belongings safe.

Ben Jonson's Sonnet "On My First Daughter" Taken to Other Places in Outer Space

Ben Jonson's "On My First Daughter" is a sad but beautiful sonnet that depicts a father's grief over his daughter's passing in her infancy. And with the last two lines of the sonnet, Zach Weinersmith of SMBC Comics made several other scenarios inspired by them but placed the setting in different locations in outer space. Check them out here.

Hayao Miyazaki's Fantastical Stories and Where He Finds Them

No doubt some of the most endearing anime to become very popular not just in Japan but all over the world are the works of Studio Ghibli and its co-founder Hayao Miyazaki. From beloved titles like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, we are taken into worlds of Miyazaki's imagination.

With stories and characters that dig deep into concepts like environmental consciousness, youthful romance, childlike curiosity, and the human essence, watching these Ghibli films is like being a child once again and looking at the world from their perspective.

But where does Miyazaki find inspiration to make these stories?

Bjorn Qorn: The Popcorn Everybody Needs to Try

It's the best popcorn. Ever. Or so says their website. But Bjorn Qorn is a special type of popcorn as it contains nutritional yeast and high B-vitamin seasoning. You won't have to worry about your health as much since they produce it with all natural, gluten free, and vegan ingredients.

I am Bjorn Qorn.
Like Bjorn Qorn's founder, Bjorn, I am a person of the corn. He's a Minnesota corn farmer's son and I'm from Kansas and was a horse girl. He went to Bard, bringing his family popcorn recipe.
I, too, have a family popcorn recipe. During a game of catch, he met an artist and innovator named Jamie who would become his cofounder, and they make artisanal popcorn together using solar power and topped with nutritional yeast.

Private Island for Sale in Upstate New York

If you want to live in peace, away from all the stress and busyness of the modern world, then you might just want to pack your things and buy 1 Willow Island on Putnam Lake, 60 miles away from New York City. And all for the reasonable price of $850K.

The small island is two thirds of an acre and hosts the main house plus a separate 600 square foot studio. The house is made from the same stone quarry that supposedly supplied the Holland Tunnel, so it's got some staying power.
It's also been updated to feature an open floor plan, modern kitchen and 35 windows that let in plenty of natural light.

Storm Area 51 Raid: It's Actually Happening

Many people have speculated about what exactly is in Area 51 and why it's so confidential. Popular theory suggests that the US government is doing research and experiments on aliens, and that we in fact have already come into contact with them.

And when somebody made a Facebook event urging people to storm Area 51, many understood the joke and moved on, but there were a few, nay, a lot of people who took it quite seriously. So they actually went to Area 51.

In the remote desert town Rachel, residents are said to be worried their quiet and rural home is going to be overtaken by people desperate to get in on the action. Rachel sits around 150 miles away from Las Vegas in Nevada.
According to The Telegraph, dozens of visitors began arriving outside Rachel's only business – an extraterrestrial-themed motel and restaurant called the Little A'Le'Inn – parking themselves in cars, tents and campers. A fire truck was stationed nearby.
On Twitter loads of people are sharing pictures of them in the towns and areas surrounding Area 51. There are camper vans, four-by-fours, inflatable aliens – the lot. It looks like storm Area 51 is actually a thing.

Tackling Mental Illness Stigma in the US with #IAmNotDangerous

We often feel intimidated or scared when we encounter something we don't understand, something unknown or different from what we normally see around us. We tend to either avoid or at worst, drive away what seems foreign to us, but this would just make our lack of understanding even worse as we wouldn't know why something is different or how we can work together.

For Patrick Kennedy, breaking the stigma on mental illness is one of the most significant advocacies as he too has his own story of mental illness and substance misuse. And so he, along with mental health advocacy organizations launched the Mental Health for US campaign.

Two-in-One Pill Dovato Makes Its Way to Canada for HIV Treatment

We're still waiting for a cure for HIV and AIDS but there have been significant progress as some research on using antiretroviral therapy has proven to cure HIV in mice and it could possibly carry over to humans as well.

For now, HIV-infected individuals must rely on other drugs and treatment. In Canada, a new pill called Dovato has been approved which combines two different components used in treating HIV.

The drugs inside Dovato are not new. Dolutegravir has been used in Canada since 2013. It belongs to a class of drugs called integrase inhibitors. Over the past seven years, integrase inhibitors have become the cornerstone of combination therapy for HIV in Canada and other high-income countries.
The other medicine that makes up Dovato is the nucleoside analogue 3TC (lamivudine). This drug has been used in HIV treatment regimens since the mid-1990s. It is generally safe and a successful part of many regimens.
For the first time, dolutegravir and 3TC are in one pill and this pill is approved for the initial treatment of HIV infection.

Mount Fanjing: China's Lonely Mountain

Towering at just over 2,570 m (8,430 ft), Mount Fanjing or Fanjingshan is located in China's Guizhou province and is the highest peak of the Wuling Mountains in southwest China. It's considered one of the sacred sites in Buddhism as its name means "Brahma's Pure Land".

Getting to Mount Fanjing is not easy. Located about 12 miles from the city of Tongren, daily buses run to the mountain and the journey takes around 90 minutes. There is limited accommodation in the area.
However, its relatively isolated location means, that it is home to a great variety of plant and animal life, including the rare Guizhou Golden Monkey and the Chinese Giant Salamander. The area has over 2000 varieties of plants and trees, many of them unique to the place.

Xerox, Velcro, Clorox, and Much More: When Brand Names Become Too Popular and Generic

User tinkerbellthinks shared this photo of a newspaper notice from the Xerox company admonishing whoever would read their message not to use their brand name to refer to the act of "photocopying" because it damages the trademark of that company.

In one of the comments, user Bluenette was reminded of an ad made by Velcro, the company who invented the hook and loop, which also urged people not to use their trademark to refer to their product. So remember it's not a Xerox, it's a photocopy. Don't say Velcro, it's a hook and loop.

This Addictive Game Will Get You Hooked to Make One More Line

The game One More Line has very simple mechanics. It's what you may call a hypercasual game but it's so addicting. I spent more than half an hour just playing the game. Perhaps what makes it so addicting is the chill vibe, the relaxing music, the general aesthetic of the game, and the drive to go the distance. Try it out and see how far you can go. -via Dark Roasted Blend

FBI Agent Unpacks the Methods of Reading Body Language

You don't need to be psychic to understand how someone is feeling or what someone is thinking about, because people usually give off nonverbal cues that signal their thoughts and feelings. We just need to pay attention and understand what these subtle cues are telling us.

In this clip, former FBI agent Joe Navarro explains the different ways we communicate through our actions, our tics and mannerisms, and other body language that convey what we don't or can't say. -via Dark Roasted Blend

Retro Robots Doing Everyday Tasks

As robotics and artificial intelligence continue to surge forward, we might find these machines more ubiquitous than we could have possibly imagined when the first computers came out. Dog Attacks Leaf Blower to Keep Owners Safe

Sometimes we can't really comprehend the way our pets behave or why they act the way they do. Dogs, in particular, have heightened senses so when they bark or react to something, we often don't know why or what it is that's causing them to act that way.

In the case of Jessi Mach's dog Charley, she tries to keep her owners safe from things that she feels don't belong inside the house. And one day, she had a run-in with the leaf blower.

“She goes into attack mode over things that are out of place,” Jessi Mach, Charley’s mom, told The Dodo. “She has kept us ‘safe’ from candles, trash cans, baskets and weird things that she thinks don't belong in the house!”
One day, Charley’s dad was trying to get some yard work done and took out a leaf blower. Charley’s dog brother Winston immediately tried to “attack” the strange machine, and after watching him barking and biting at the air, Charley decided to get in on the action, too.
