Lions: The Movie

Kids do the cutest, silliest things. In this anecdote from Zulkey, Claire shares a funny little conversation between her son James and her husband Steve. James tells his dad that they watched a movie about lions at school. When Steve asks him whether they learned about lions, James replies, "NO! WE DIDN'T LEARN ABOUT LIONS!"

And so, in an attempt to depict what movie they watched at school, Steve created this Youtube video about lions:

Next Gen Consoles Battle: Why PS5 Might Lose to Xbox

Sony's PS4 has seen some really great feedback and responses from gamers and it clearly has a bit of an edge over the Xbox One. However, according to a Metro reader, the PS5 may not have that advantage for long as Project Scarlett seems to have a fighting chance. Here are five reasons why the reader predicts the PS5 will lose to Xbox.

Cricket Australia Introduces New Parental Leave Policy

When athletes become parents, the added responsibility of taking care of their child and training to compete is very difficult to bear, especially for female athletes who would go through a tough recovery period and also have to take care of the child, often signaling the end of their career.

However, with this new game-changing policy that Cricket Australia has introduced, athletes will be given 12 months' parental leave for the primary carer and three weeks for the secondary parent. Furthermore, travel costs and accommodation will be provided for athletes until the child is four years old.

"The announcement is game-changing. Having the security of a contract is a big plus and the ability to transition after having children," wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy said during a panel on Friday.
She reflected on a time when her teammates would be pumping breast milk in the change rooms before making a century (100 runs). But typically, motherhood would signify the end to a woman player's professional career. No longer.
"Originally pregnancy was seen as injury… It's unbelievably cool to think a female cricketer could travel the world and play cricket with a young family."

The Improbable Long-Running "Waterworld" Stunt Show at Universal Studios Hollywood

The 1995 film "Waterworld" was a major flop, not least because of all the drama that went into producing the film, not to mention the pretty eccentric storyline.

However, for all that the film failed to do, its Universal Studios stunt show has succeeded in doing, being one of the longest-running shows in Universal Studios. It has outlasted other spectacles such as E.T., Back to the Future, and Terminator. But why has this show become a hit when its inspiration was a disaster?

"It's basic storytelling combined with really great stunts and effects," says initial project manager Norman Kahn. "That, I think, really, is what led to it becoming as successful as it is."
But mention any of this to someone who hasn't been to Universal Studios recently, as I often did while reporting this article, and they react with disbelief: Seriously? Waterworld?

A Grandfather's Legacy of Three Pumpkins on Halloween

Instead of giving away candy on Halloween, Jess Huang's grandfather had a different tradition: he would cook some of the dishes he knew by heart and share them with the people he considered family. One of the things that he remembered most about that time were the three pumpkins which his grandfather strapped on at the backseat of their car on their way home.

It was a tradition born out of my grandfather’s love of cooking, and merged with an appreciation for his adopted country’s traditions. And through this custom, he showed me how kindness through food, shared yearly with neighbors who went from not knowing anything about Asian dishes to becoming some of my grandfather’s biggest fans, could tighten the bonds of a once-anonymous suburban neighborhood.

This Little Boy Recites Self-Affirmations While Walking to School

I remember the scene in the film "The Help" in which Viola Davis' character Aibileen teaches the little girl, whom she was taking care of, three phrases to affirm herself: "You is smart. You is kind. You is important."

Similar to that, this video of a little boy named Ayaan reciting affirmations, which his mother taught him when he was two, is one of the cutest and most inspiring things I have seen of late.

Chaperoning High School Students on a Pilgrimage

Watching over teenagers is, shall we say, a somewhat complicated task. You want to balance trying to protect them from doing risky things and allowing them to venture out on their own and learning things on their own. You can't always tell them what to do; instead you need to find a way to connect with them so that you would earn their respect.

Being a chaperone for a youth pilgrimage gave Andrew Askins a glimpse of what it's like to watch over teenagers. And on the trip, he was able to find peace with the things he was going through in his life at that moment. Read more from Andrew Askins.

The Behemoth That Is Super Typhoon Hagibis

When I heard of news about this super typhoon with a diameter wide enough to engulf my entire country, I was shocked and couldn't believe it, until I saw satellite images of the monstrous cyclone inching slowly toward Japan. And I was amazed and terrified at the same time that such a giant has come to existence.

The most powerful typhoon in decades to be on course to hit Tokyo is expected to rake the coast of Japan's main island of Honshu this weekend, bringing strong winds and up to 2 feet of rain.
Super Typhoon Hagibis has strengthened to a Category 5 storm and although it's expected to weaken to Category 4 before making landfall, it would still bring extremely rough seas and winds up to 135 mph to the region.

ANA Tests Self-Driving Electric Wheelchairs for PWDs

Navigating one's way through the airport is already a hassle, especially when it gets too congested that there's barely any space left to move around. It's even more of a struggle for people with disabilities and the elderly.

In response to this need, All Nippon Airways (ANA) has been testing a new technology, the personal mobility, self-driving electric wheelchairs that would make travel easier for PWDs and perhaps even the elderly.

Developed through a partnership between Panasonic and WHILL, a Japanese tech startup, the robotic chairs operate in a follow-the-leader fashion to reach a destination. The chairs are also capable of detecting and avoiding obstacles, though airline employees serve as guides.

The team from the Chicago Genius Herald came up with a random idea to see what the aldermen from Chicago would look like if they were goth. It must be really surprising to see your representative donning the look one day out of the blue but it would also be quite interesting to see them take on the goth lifestyle. The Worlds That Comic Books Built

Comic book stories are usually set on Earth or fictional planets in the universe which have been inspired either by other planets and celestial bodies in outer space or an admixture of said planets and one's imagination.

In order to explore the many aspects and places within these fictional worlds, the site Comic Book Cartography compiles several maps and diagrams from the worlds which have been created in comic books. It includes such places as the Batcave, the World of Kamandi, and Titan where Captain Marvel originated.

"The Future of Work" Short Film Illustrates the Human Condition in the Modern Workplace

For anyone who has worked in an office setting whether it be in the corporate world, the government, or even as freelancers, there comes a point when the work you do becomes exhausting and you don't find any fulfillment in it any longer.

In the short film "The Future of Work" created by Studio BIEN in collaboration with freelance animator Reece Parker and Myriad Media for IBM, it shows the life of a typical worker, Jane who becomes swallowed up by the monotony of work life because of all the mundane, repetitive tasks she does. Until IMB automation comes in.

"Telling a compelling story without dialogue is challenging. To ensure maximum visual impact and cultural relevance for a global audience, we worked hand-in-hand with Myriad Media to shape the script and mould the story. It’s highly unusual for a studio to be involved from the very beginning but we were glad to collaborate from the jump."
