Most North Koreans are not familiar with western customs. It is a ENTIRELY western custom to smile in photographs. In fact, many believe it's disrespectful to do so in deep parts of India, China, middle East, and I presume East Asia. Reference the number of photos of my parents and grandparents and family in the village that are super serious in their wedding photos.

When scientists "discover" that that samples of a species are actually two species, they often name the second one 'neglecta' (same genus). There are other less common reasons for naming a species 'neglecta'. There are hundreds (thousands?) of species named neglecta. This is just one of them.

Not to discredit the guy's achievement, but "according to Guinness rules, contestants are allowed to breath pure oxygen for 30 minutes" before the attempt. What's the point of making that stipulation. Why can't they just disallow oxygen doping and put everyone on the same playing ground?
