Lift the ban. I say this as the ex wife of a person that had been almost 5 years sober from being a heroin needle addict, and was not allowed to give blood because I had *ever* had sex with a person who had *ever* used IV drugs. Now it's been over 20 years sober for him and I have not had sex with him for 9 years but I still can't give blood. Pfft.
My guess is that it's not necessarily friendly. It looks like once the helper tortoise is done, he takes a little nip or two at the other's scutes and follows closely (pretty classic breeding behavior). Tortoises are capable of learning but I doubt if that was intentionally helpful.
In the 80s my daughter wanted a pair of $165 "buckshot" jeans. I bought a pair from the thrift store, hung them over a fence, shot them and washed them a couple of times. She was the envy of all her friends! :)
