Yes you are allowed them on the plane. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1252.shtm as of 11/5/2011 . I can tell you I recently flew with a pair of circulars with no problem. I was even able to bring a small pair of snips for my yarn.
