"Loosely based" is a euphemism for "completely fictional". The only thing the movie has in common with the true story is that there was a Jamaican bobsled team in the Calgary Olympics that year, and they crashed. Everything else, beginning to end, was fabricated to make a good kid's story, and doesn't bear even the slightest commonality with the actual events.

Whether or not that's the case... There's no question the best way to deal with most pests is to seal-up any cracks, holes, openings, pathways, etc. It can be effective much more quickly, and provides a long term solution instead of a temporary fix. And the first step should be windows screens if you don't already have them. Obviously rats need larger holes than mice, who need larger openings than roaches, spiders, mosquitos and other bugs, but all can be kept out if you put the effort in.

The film "The Lost Battalion" (2001) prominently features homing pigeons as the hundreds of encircled soldiers' only means of communication. It specifically shows the famous Cher Ami flying through a hail of gunfire to deliver a message to stop the friendly artillery fire that was decimating the unit.

"Cher Ami flew with bullets zipping through the air all around her. Cher Ami was eventually shot down but managed to take flight again. She arrived back at her loft at division headquarters 25 miles to the rear in just 25 minutes, helping to save the lives of the 194 survivors. In this last mission, Cher Ami delivered the message despite having been shot through the breast, blinded in one eye, covered in blood and with a leg hanging only by a tendon. The pigeon was awarded the Croix de Guerre Medal with a palm Oak Leaf Cluster for her heroic service in delivering 12 important messages in Verdun. To American school children of the 1920s and 1930s, Cher Ami was as well known as any human World War I heroes. Cher Ami's body was mounted and enshrined in the Smithsonian Institution."

It's a great film closely based on actually events. In many ways, it is essentially a prequel to Band of Brothers, but which only few people have even heard of.

The story got some coverage here a few years ago:

You can't delve into his family-business background, which obviously got him his first roles among other things, then turn around and claim he pulled himself up by his bootstraps with hard work...

According to this chart, girls face very high rates of kidnapping until they hit age 40+...

http://www.project.org/info.php?recordID=158

So that's the earliest age at which you can safely start letting them walk home, alone. In fact the numbers peak at around age 22, so that's a terrible time to cut back on your around-the-clock parental supervision of them... You're better off leaving your 5-year old daughter on her own, than when she's teen-aged.

I'd say it varies greatly depending on the area. In a small town it is probably pretty safe for younger kids to wander around on their own. In a big, crime-ridden city with lots of random eyes around, I'd be careful.

As for teenagers in general, they may be less vulnerable to strangers, but having a house to themselves for hours, with friends around, could be pretty risky in entirely different ways...

A loft bed would commonly just have a ladder, anyhow, so this doesn't seem to actually be saving any space.

"Tiny Homes" seems like a very expensive fad. Travel trailers already have lots of design effort going into making the most use of minimal space. They just don't look very stylish.

Unfortunately, she will quickly be replaced by Indians willing to do the job for a fraction the cost...

Also, under Android Developer Options is "Allow Mock Locations". You can feed your phone a list of GPS coordinates and the apps running won't know you aren't actually traveling to those locations.

Stack the wood any which way you want, grab all the kindling you can, and you'll still probably never get a fire started (without lighter fluid or a starter log) with such worthless vague tips.

The key is to get the heat from the kindling in as small of a space as possible, confined against as small a part of a log as possible. You really need a tight, six sided box around your kindling, made up of the fire ring/pit/rock, several logs, and possibly rocks or sand. You can't possibly make it too tight with the materials you'll be using, so don't worry about intake air our exhaust openings. Go to extremes to hold the flames from that kindling in, and those logs will fire up that much faster.

Cleaning is a popular target for old wives tales because it's so subjective... Sometimes messes are tougher than others, and with enough scrubbing, even water is a good enough cleaner for any mess. If you want to clean up the tough messes quickly, get yourself a nice cheap pack of sand paper... Puts Comet/Ajax to shame! Also removes corns, calluses and unwanted tattoos.

Btw, anywhere somebody stupidly says to use vodka, substitute isopropyl and save yourself a ton of money.

All testing has shown ultrasonic insect repellent devices don't work. And what's more, I see no reason to combine these two unrelated devices. Would you buy a refrigerator-stove, or a lawnmower-car?

The question is only a hypothetical thought experiment, NOT a real issue. Sensors, today, aren't remotely reliable enough to prevent false positives and therefore sacrifice vehicle occupants for a radar blip.
