I can walk into a dollar-store and get magnifying reading glasses in various powers. So what, exactly, does the law restrict?
I see that it's entirely legal in most states for an optician to DUPLICATE a pair of prescription glasses without a current prescription, so you can keep getting new ones indefinitely, without any further exam.

Has he learned NOTHING from all those pirate's treasure films over the years?

This is the kind of thing that gets people killed... Non-professionals offering bits of valid advice they've heard, mixed in with incorrect/bad advice, and missing some of the most important safety notes and disclaimers any medical professional would know to always include.

It's a tricky situation... Countries can't allow their citizens to go fight wars for others, with no official sanction, then flee back to the safety of their home country at will. It could drag her home country into a war they don't want. And consider what if an opposition soldier makes it to Copenhagen and murders her, but claims it as a valid wartime battle, not murder... Making the country a legitimate battlefield and individuals immune from criminal prosecution under the Geneva convention.

He's pushing his luck. The single shoe was 1. Worthless to the thief, and 2. Incriminating evidence, and apparently he saw a safe opportunity to return it rather than just ditch it in the trash.

This is much more dangerous than they admit. A burning gas stove without ventilation will release substantial carbon monoxide into your home. An unattended stove-top burner risks any stray bit of airborne hair or lint igniting and spreading to other flammable material in your home. Most pots and pans have plastic handles, which will release huge amounts of toxic smoke if they are left on a high temperature stove top without anything in them. Anything immediately adjacent to your very hot oven/stove risks igniting as well.

I highly recommend the Revenge of Shinobi soundtrack.
Ecco the Dolphin starts with funky, strange, otherworldly music, but only a few are good, the rest irritating.
Sonic1 Green Hill Zone on headphones recommended. They wanted to show off their stereo hardware, and did it well. Other levels/songs not so much, and they didn't bother doing real stereo sound again, even on Sonic sequels. Try it and tell me I'm wrong...

An interesting idea. I've never sympathized with a mechanized assembly line, but maybe something like these will have unexpected issues of making human coworkers around them unhappy:

So that's what... 3 out of 5 nominees that are Disney owned films? I guess they spread more of the Payola around.

I guess Jill isn't a fan of this site, and didn't read this story when it was posted last year:

Doesn't Asimov nicely explain them (and their order) in every single book, already?
Obeying orders is the tricky one... You don't want some random human to order your expensive bot to commit suicide for their own amusement. You don't want them to be used to commit crimes from a safe distance. Etc.

I've had two cats survive into their 20s, out of a much smaller pool, and they may have gone longer if I was willing to rack up absurd vet bills. So I'm not sure his methods are anything special, although they obviously aren't doing much harm. If your cats are fixed, immunized or isolated, and forced to stay indoors, they tend to have very long lifespans. But without documentation proving age, don't expect to make it into guinness.

A search for "nearsighted glasses" on eBay turns up 4,000 results, many allow you to select strength from -1 to 10. As low as $2/each, you could easily buy an assortment of strengths and, like any optician, see which works best for each eye, then order the proper pair, perhaps in a more desirable style.
