Flippable Rembrandt Book Bracelet

Rembrandt book bracelet

The Rijksmuseum, a museum dedicated to arts and history in Amsterdam, wanted people to be inspired by its online collection, the Rijksstudio, so they started a design competition. To enter, you simply had to create a new design using something found in the Rijksstudio and enter it in their "Make your own Masterpiece" contest.

The winners of the 2015 Rijksstudio Award for "Make your own Masterpiece" are Lyske Gais and Lia Duinker. They created this amazing Rembrandt Book Bracelet which is inspired by De steniging van Stefanus, a circa 1635 artwork of Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn.

This 2-Year Old Girl Is a Master Archer

(Photo: AFP)

Dolly Shivani Cherukuri recently broke a national archery record in India. At the age of 2, she became the youngest person in the country to earn at least 200 points at an archery competition. She's definitely ready to join Team Arrow!

Dolly comes from a family of archers. Her father runs an archery school and trains her in that art for 2 to 3 hours a day. It's already paid off. The Daily Telegraph reports:

Dolly scored a total of 388 points. She began by firing 36 arrows at a target 15 feet away, then shot 36 more, this time from 21 feet.

The young record-breaker was being set up for bow and arrow stardom “when she was in the womb itself,” Cherukuri Satyanarayana, Dolly’s father, told AFP. Light carbon arrows were made so she wouldn't struggle with their weight when training.

Uptown Funk Treadmill Dance

(YouTube link)

Carson Dean has quite the skill -he can dance even when the floor is moving underneath him! Watch him get down to “Uptown Funk” without losing his balance even the slightest bit. Don’t believe me? Just watch! If that were me, I'd have my frontward and backward confused in no time at all. That would look more like this. -via Viral Viral Videos

The Art of Blowing Bubbles

(YouTube link)

Taiwanese performer Su Chung Tai (蘇仲太) is a master at the art of soap bubbles. In fact, he entertains crowds with his show called Be Fantasy, and is known as the “Bubble Performance Master.” There probably isn’t a lot of competition for the title. The show is mesmerizing, as he constructs complicated yet ephemeral bubble configurations, with bubbles inside bubbles, bubbles moving in strange ways, and bubbles changing as he pleases. Mr. Su has broken three Guinness World Records, although his website doesn’t say what exactly those records are, or whether he broke any of his own records. -via Viral Viral Videos

The Best of Benny the Bull

(YouTube link)

Benny the Bull is the mascot of the Chicago Bulls basketball team. He was named the top sports mascot in America by Forbes magazine in 2013.

Inside the suit is Barry Anderson, who earned the position after embodying Monte for the University of Montana. In his job, you’ve got to be a dancer, actor, acrobatic, basketball player, and comedian -all at the same time while wearing a hot and heavy suit that obscures the vision. Enjoy this montage of Benny the Bull’s highlights of the 2013-14 season. -via Daily Picks and Flicks

Dual-Wielding Basketball Human Throwing Machine

They call him Khaki Shorts. No one knows his real name, for he is a creature of the night. Also the arcade. With both hands, he throws one basketball after another into the hoop. Smoothly, the balls slide through the net, much faster and more accurately than his two competitors.

Having played with this child's toy long enough, Khaki Shorts aims for the basket on a different console! He banks the shots, sending the basketballs through the net.

Then Khaki Shorts strides off casually, disappearing into the sunset. He shall return again when we need him the most.

Synchronized Skydiving

(YouTube link)

How do you take ballet into a new dimension? Do it while freefalling! An alternate but more likely question behind this stunt is “How do we raise the difficulty level of our skydiving?” Watch two Russian skydivers, identified only as Aleksander and Mikhael in this GoPro ad, dance as they descend over the beautiful backdrop of Dubai. The cameraman is not identified at all, but deserves a pat on the back for capturing the performance. -via Buzzfeed

Extreme Pogo Artists are Insane

(YouTube link)

You could call them insanely good. This combination extreme sport and art form is called Xpogo, and it looks terrifying. At least these guys are wearing helmets. That only makes sense, as the best practitioners are well aware of how many falls it takes to achieve this level of competence (otherwise they'd be dead). This compilation is brought to you by the folks who do the People Are Awesome series. -Thanks, Dan!

Oddly Soothing: Plugging Pylons on the Golden Gate Bridge

(Video Link)

Like the bricklaying video I posted a couple years ago, there's something calming and appealing about watching someone become, through practice, the master of a skill you might not think of. This employee of the Golden Gate Bridge Transportation District can plug pylons into holes made for them along the Golden Gate Bridge. He does so while the truck he's travelling on is moving at considerable speed.

He never misses a single hole throughout the video.

Archer Has Incredible Ability to Hit Any Target from Any Position at Any Speed

Lars Andersen, the fastest archer in the world, is back with a mesmerizing video showing his apparently superhuman abilities with a bow and arrow. He has revived centuries-old techniques in positioning, such a holding the arrow along the right rather than the left side of the bow. Andersen describes them at length in the notes to the YouTube video below.

He can jump, catch an arrow, and shoot it while in midair.

He can shoot down an arrow flying through the air.

One of Those Days 2

(YouTube link)

French professional skier Candide Thovex (previously) gives us his point of view as he jumps, flips, and schusses down Le Clusaz mountain at terrifying speeds. Do NOT try this, at home or anywhere else. The video shoot was meticulously planned, staged, and edited. A normal skier trying this would at least be banned from the slope, if he didn’t die or break every bone in his body. If you’re wondering about the title, the previous video is here. -via Metafilter

Not Your Everyday Pullups

(YouTube link)

Marisa Inda is pretty fit. She also has a style that seems to defy gravity, and this video was not recorded in outer space. It’s not magic, it’s muscles. Pullups are just about the most difficult thing for even a strong, fit woman to do in the gym, but for Inda, it’s an opportunity to dance.  -via Uproxx

Damien Walters Compilation

(YouTube link)

British stuntman and freerunner Damien Walters has astonished us before with his skills, but he is always working on new stunts. His latest video is a compilation of clips from his entire career, so you may remember seeing some of them before, but you’ll cringe just the same -and get ready for a lot you haven’t seen, too. Of course, there are no disasters, but the back of your mind expects one any second. -via Daily Picks and Flicks
