What Is It? game 327

Now it's time for our collaboration with the awesome What Is It? Blog! What is this thing -the long one on the very left of the wall? You don't have to know to win!

Place your guess in the comment section below. One guess per comment, please, though you can enter as many as you'd like. You might know the true answer, but we're going to select two winners who come up with the funniest, most outlandish guesses to win a T-shirt from the NeatoShop. However...

You MUST write your T-shirt selection alongside your guess. If you don't include a selection, you forfeit the prize, see? Look through the Science T-Shirts, Funny T-Shirts and Artist-Designed T-Shirts for starters.

Check out more mystery items at the What Is It? Blog. Good luck!

Update: This is a turtle probe, or turtle hook. Sometimes turtles will burrow into a muddy bank, if the hunter can see their breathing hole he can find the shell by probing the mud, and then hook the shell with the rod and pull the turtle out. Interesting, but we were looking for funny but wrong answers. One came from ktc, who said it’s a “Vintage tooth puller for dental clients with serious halitosis.” Ha! That’s worth a t-shirt from the NeatoShop! A shirt also goes to Lucas Gentry, for this answer: “It's a "Me too" parachute. Requires one sky diver to have already deployed their own parachute.” Congratulations to both! See the answers to all of this week’s mystery items at the What is It? blog.

Godzilla's Q-tip for reaching straight through both ear holes at the same time. See? Clean as a whistle and the breeze blowing through his head makes a nice sort of creepy sound...

This is a segment of iron fishing line with attached sinker for deep deep DEEP sea fishing. It is most commonly used when the average fisherman wants a chance to catch a Kraken but needs his fishing line to reach the bottom without being moved about by underwater currents or whales

It's a Civil War era Bouncing Betty. When they didn't have a cannon available, they'd fill this with explosives and roll it down the hill at their enemies.

It's a gun powder distributor. The small hole on the end makes sure that only the right size trail of gun powder is left behind, and the square attachment in the middle allows the distributor to be mounted on a very long pole, so the operator doesn't blow himself up.

It's the barrel used in 1943 when two gnomes, Gigli and Migli, went over Niagara Falls. When asked why they didn't just remove their hats and use a regular barrel, Gigli replied "remove our what now?"

Part of an early pneumatic tube system for ride-up banking. Put your gold dust, chickens, etc. into the carrier (pictured) then crank the blower handle to send it to the teller.

This was a bit too small for Miley Cyrus to swing on in her video. Plus "Came in like a pendulum" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Came in like a wrecking ball".

It is little known that in Victorian England, a secret Royal Project used a giant cannon to launch a mouse and successfully landed it in this tiny craft upon the Moon. The reinforced barrel ship was recovered, but, alas, the mouse had decided to stay behind for the cheese.

Hi,
I think it's a training egg for competition ostriches.
We understand the value of the pointed shape on each side.
Ostriches thank us for that matter.
The black part allows to "reset" the laying process for more training.
