Atlas the Homeless Rabbit

The Glasgow center of the Scottish SPCA is looking for a home for Atlas the rabbit. As you can see, Atlas is not a typical rabbit; he’s a continental giant rabbit. At seven months of age, he is still not fully grown! Not just any home will do. Manager Anna O’Donnell says they are looking for a home that is equipped to take on such a large bunny.

“We are looking for a specific home for Atlas due to his breed and size. A standard rabbit hutch won’t do so his new owner will need plenty of space for him.

“Atlas needs an owner with the knowledge to properly care for him, so ideally someone who has kept a continental giant before.

Atlas is mischievous and inquisitive, and loves to be petted and cuddled. -via Metafilter

Pesty Piglet Nabs Fresh Milk from the Dairy Cow, Cow is Not Pleased

After viewing this video, one can see that it's no wonder calling a person a "pig" is essentially to label them an opportunistic glutton. In this clip, a cute and obviously thirsty little piglet decides that a long drink of fresh milk is warranted, no matter what the animal attached to that udder/twisty straw thing thinks.

During his milk binge, the annoyed cow is seen looking back at him in dismay, swatting him with her tail and trying to brush him off with a rear hoof, all to no avail. In the end, her walking away in combination with his being temporarily milk sated is her answer. I'd be afraid to see what a candid Charlotte would write in her web about that little guy. Nora's the Name, Slaying People With Cute is the Game

YouTube Link

Animal lovers, particularly those who treasure polar bears, may want to grab on to a sturdy surface prior to hitting play, due to possibility of serious swoon. This is Nora, the three-month-old polar bear cub at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (whom I've once featured previously at Neatorama before she was old and mobile enough to do much but look and sound adorable while sleeping).

Now a curious, roly poly bear-in-training, this clip shows Nora roaming around the off-display areas of her zoo home, having fun and attending to important tasks such as giving the sign that announces her moniker a little taste test. The cub's name was decided by a public vote, and is a combination of letters in the names of her parents, mother Aurora and father Nanuq. Nora will not be available to be seen by zoo visitors until her keepers are satistfied that she is emotionally and physically ready.

Learn more about and see additional video clips of Nora at the Facebook page of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. It's updated frequently, is well done and is worth the time for any animal enthusiast.

Are You Ready for Some Otterball?

We're huge fans of the Puppy Bowl and even the Kitten Bowl (despite the fact that it's a blatant rip off), but if you're looking for some live animal sports, some new teams or just a little more water in the game, you'll want to head to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach to enjoy the second annual Otter Bowl.

(Video Link)

The otters in the otter bowl aren't just limited to boring old footballs and even toy balls, they even are given a special football made out of clams.

If you're looking for a little live animal championship entertainment but happen to be in San Francisco rather than LA, be sure to stop by the live Puppy Bowl at Gott's Roadside. Best of all, the athletes are all up for adoption there so you could even bring home a new best friend.

Missing Cat Found a Year Later, Fat from Living in a Pet Food Warehouse

(Photo: Kennelgate Pet Superstores)

When he was 9 months old, Clive the cat disappeared from this home in Toton, Nottinghamshire, UK. Fourteen months later, he's finally home after spending the time living in a pet store company warehouse.

Kennelgate Pet Superstores maintains that warehouse in the nearby town of Stapleton. Workers there noted that something kept triggering alarms during the night. They found evidence of a cat, which they finally trapped.

Clive was microchipped, so after a veterinarian scanned the chip, it was easy to reunite the cat with his owner, Tanya Irons. She's delighted to have Clive back, even if he's put on a lot of weight. She told the BBC that "I can't believe that he's so porky."

This Hungry Sea Lion Pup Headed Right to a Restaurant

When you're hungry and you don't want to cook for yourself, you go to a restaurant. But who knew that sea lions thought the same way? At least one little guy in San Diego does as he headed to a beach-front restaurant The Marine Room yesterday morning and sat himself in a booth awaiting service.

While the waitstaff was slow to show up for work, the little guy took in the great view.

Unfortunately, he never got his order of fish and chips, but he was taken in by a rescue team -though only after executive chef Bernard Guillas took a few choice photos of the odd occurrence.

Pup Wipes His Own Paws

Vimeo Link

This footage illustrates how Thomas Anamun trained his dog Bentley to operate on a cleanliness level above most canines. When Bentley gets to the welcome mat at the entrance of his home, he stops to wipe his paws thoroughly before walking through the doorway. Once the pup decides his job is done, his presence inside the house is celebrated by an unnamed doggie companion of his at the top of the stairs. Good boy, Bentley, and welcome home! Dog Breaks out of Her Kennel to Comfort Crying Puppies

(Photos: Barkers Pet Motel and Grooming)

Maggie, an Australian Shepherd, was staying at the Barkers Pet Motel and Grooming in St. Albert, Alberta. A few cages down from her were two rescued puppies. Their mama was nowhere to be found, so Maggie stepped in.

During the night, Maggie broke out of her own cage, found the puppies, and lay down in front of them. That's where caretakers found her the next morning. They put them all together so that Maggie could comfort them directly. CTV News talked to Sandi Aldred, the owner of the facility:

“She just wanted to get to these puppies, so she pushed her way through, wiggled her way out,” Aldred said. “She must’ve known pretty much where they were because she almost went right to their room.

“She stood there, she pawed at their door, she put her nose in there, she did her little bum wiggle and little bow to them and just wanted to be in there with them.

“Then she just sort of stood guard with them until we got back.”

New Winter Sport: Boar Curling

Ice skaters on Båven, a lake south of Stockholm, Sweden, spotted wild boars on an island in the middle of the frozen lake. They were trapped there, unable to gain traction on the ice and probably running out of food on the little island. So the skaters gently pushed the boars across with poles, like they were sweeping curling stones across the ice.

Policeman Answers Routine Call, Falls in Love With Puppy

Marcus Montgomery is a police officer with the Fort Walton Beach, Florida police department. When a situation regarding a prior employee arose at the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Montgomery went to the facility to make sure everything was in order. Montgomery told BuzzFeed,

“We spoke for about 20 minutes and I was wrapping up my investigation. One of the supervisors left, and while I was still speaking to the director of PAWS, the supervisor came back in with this little puppy in her hands. You could tell he’d been sleeping because his eyes were heavy and he was yawning constantly.”

Montgomery said he “immediately” asked to hold the puppy. He soon found out that the pup had just been plucked from a box on the other side of the building, and due to being all alone in the box, he had been crying.

When Montgomery heard that information it was, as they say, "all she wrote." The cop decided right then and there to take the pup home that night where he lives with his girlfriend and a pitbull rescue named Vader, who was long desirous of canine companionship.

Now? We have Vader and Kylo, as seen below. Living, loving and napping. Navigating the dark side together, as a pair of close pals are wont to do.

Learn about Vader's history and how his being a pitbull affected the early part of his life as a shelter animal, and see more criminally cute pictures of Vader and Kylo by visiting this link.

Cat Becomes Cleopatra

This attractive cat got himself (or herself) into a bit of a jam. He stuck his head into a vase, couldn’t get his head out, then freaked out and broke the vase. For a while he had a stylish ceramic collar, reminiscent of an ancient Egyptian fashion. You have to imagine it would be quite heavy and probably put pressure on his shoulders. We don’t have the end of the story, but this picture, and another one, were taken in a vet’s office, so we can assume the cat was freed one way or another. -via reddit

Birds Are The Best Photobombers In The Animal Kingdom

Cats and other critters make photobombing look totally cool, but birds somehow manage to make the whole thing look like it's our fault they're in our shot.

(Image Link)

They stare at us like we're in their way, sometimes captivated by the shiny lens or the flash but mostly they're just there, in the way of yet another photo with that dumb look on their face.

(Image Link)

But that's what makes the bird photobomb such a special experience- they could fly away in an instant but they've chosen to satisfy their curiosity about humans by ruining our shots.

(Image Link)

Ruining is really the wrong word, actually a bird photobomb is quite the opposite, and so long as they don't break our lenses or peck at our heads birds can guest star in our photos anytime!

(Image Link)

Of course, inviting them to guest star in our shots may mean inviting disaster

(Image Link)

Because birds weren't raised with our human sense of decency and respect

Lemurs Love to Get High on Millipedes

Lemurs are everything depicted in Madagascar -adorable, fuzzy and pretty f-ing crazy. But now that insanity sort of makes sense now that we know black lemurs actually enjoy getting high, it makes a lot more sense. So how do they get high? As it turns out, despite mostly eating fruit, they have a soft spot for black millipedes as well. If there's any question about whether or not they're trying to get high or just trying to have a snack, there's no debate there as they don't even eat the poisonous bugs, but simply take a bite and then throw it on the ground.

The millipedes often don't even die, but they do spray a toxic cloud at the lemur, which then spreads it along its fur. Aside from a sweet trip, the lemur also gets the benefit of using the poison as a mosquito repellant.

Dress-Wearing Bunny Drinks Milk

(YouTube link)

What you will see is an adorable little bunny who hops around in her little pink dress and then gets a drink from a syringe. Squee! The really weird part is the title of the video at YouTube: “Rabbit Female Wearing Ladies Dress Walking And Jumping , Drinking Milk From Injection Nipple.” Those are obviously words strung together for search engine optimization, and the overall effect is downright industrial. -via Metafilter
