Cop Rescues Cat with A Taser

Police in La Vista, Nebraska, responded to a call about a cat stuck in a tree. The cat was about 20 feet above ground over a creek. Officer T.J. Markowsky explained on Twitter how one officer used his Taser to lure the cat down. The weapon had a laser sight, which left a small red dot wherever it is aimed. Knowing the lure of a laser light to cats, the officer enticed the cat to follow the red dot down the tree, where he was apprehended. The perpetrator was incarcerated at the local Humane Society shelter. Officer Markowsky noted that charges are pending against the cat for scratching him. Six days later, the cat was bailed out by a new owner who adopted him.

Horse Gets Legend of Zelda Haircut

(Photo: Katie Amos Photography)

JMC Equestrian Clipping is a horse barbering service in northwestern England. A few months ago, it trimmed into this Welsh horse's hair symbols and icons from The Legend of Zelda.

Think of the cosplay opportunities with this service!

And it's certainly not the first time that JMC has done work like this. Check out these horses:

Porcupine Fish Refuses to Abandon Trapped Best Friend

(Video Link)

Core Sea is a marine conservation and research organization in Southeast Asia. Recently, one member of the team came across a porcupinefish while snorkeling in Chaloklum Bay, Thailand. The fish was caught in a net. The snorkler used a broken bottle to cut the fish free of the net. That was a challenge, as the net kept on getting caught on the procupinefish's spines.

Throughout the entire rescue, another porcupinefish insisted on staying close by. When the trapped fish was free, the couple swam off together.

Mechanic Finds Nest of Sleeping Baby Squirrels in Car

(Video Link)

The owner brought the car into the mechanic's shop in Harleysville, Pennsylvania. There was a funny noise coming from the engine. So the mechanic popped the hood to have a look. Something was wrong, but also unbelievably adorable.

On top of the car engine was a leaf and moss nest containing 3 baby squirrels, all of them asleep. The Daily Mail reports:

The owners had taken the car into the garage after they heard strange 'screaming' sounds coming from inside it.

They said it hadn't been running properly and they could hear peculiar noises coming from the vehicle.

The squirrels had chewed through some of the wiring, which was perhaps why the car was not functioning properly.

Big Cats Love Easter Too

Sure it's cute to see kids hunting for eggs on Easter morning, but did you know that lions, tigers, leopards and other wild kitties also love Easter baskets? Over at LA's Wildlife Waystation, these cool cats got a special celebration for the holiday and the resulting photos and videos are adorable.

You can see a video of Bolero the lion discovering his special holiday treats at the sanctuary's Facebook (the video won't embed here). Or check out more pictures of all the critters over at LAist.

Starfish Tries to Steal Fish's Cave

(Video Link)

The industrious mudskipper is building a home. He sucks in mouthfuls of sand, then spits them out away from the rock. Soon, a cozy cave forms.

The starfish thinks that he can simply take the house away. It's just a matter of sliding in, like your friend who invites himself over to your house and then won't leave, even when you put on your pajamas and get ready for bed.

Dog Snores Like a Cartoon Character

(Video Link)

When he's awake, he's a normal dog. When he's asleep, he becomes a voice over artist. This Labrador sounds just like a stereotypical cartoon character snoring.

He's so loud that I'm surprised that he doesn't wake himself up!

Kitten Is Fascinated by Her Reflection in the Mirror

(Video Link)

There's another cat in the house!

And he's a handsome fella. Kinda weird, though. He scrunches his body up in odd ways. Still, it's worth examining him closely.

So he is a permanent resident, or just passing through? Because I've got dibs on the couch.

Cat Exercise Wheel Comes with Fitness Tracker

(Image: Jasper Ruben)

Jasper Ruben did more than build an exercise wheel for his cats. That's fun for the cats, but fun does not equal data. And if it's not data, it doesn't exist.

So Ruben programmed a Raspberry Pi to track his cat's exercise performance. Hack A Day explains:

The wheel now features a Raspberry Pi which can track speed, calculate distance traveled, and determine the equivalent running speed of [Jasper’s] feline companions.

To calculate the speed of the wheel, [Jasper] is using a small coil sensor (similar to how bicycle speedometers work). Six nails in the wheel trigger the sensor. Once the data is on-board the Pi, some simple calculations allow [Jasper] to provide a few different metrics on how effective the cat exercise is. A webcam sends a live stream of the wheel online with a data overlay for your viewing pleasure.

Cat Collects Men’s Underwear

Brigit lives in Hamilton, New Zealand. Her hobby is collecting men’s underwear. Brigit’s owner, Sarah Nathan, would catch the cat burglar with a sock every now and then, but did not realize the extent of her thievery until the family got ready to pack up and move to a new home. She posted Brigit’s haul to Facebook, hoping to find the owner of the socks and underwear. She also posted the above notice and slipped notes into her neighbor’s mailboxes.

The pictures went viral when they were posted at reddit. One man has responded and said the underwear looked familiar. Meanwhile, Nathan and her husband are moving to the countryside, and hope that Brigit will find a new hobby.

“Hopefully there's something there she can find to catch but if not we may have to stash some undies around the farm to keep her stimulated."

Is Your Cat Left-Handed or Right-Handed?

Apparently, cats have a dominant front paw. You can check your cats by putting a treat in the bottom of a glass. Which paw does your cat use to fish it out? You may need to do this several times to make sure, like mugumogu did with Maru and Hana.

(YouTube link)

So Hana is left-handed, while Maru is right-handed, after first trying it with his face. According to RocketNews24, 40% of cats are left-handed, 50% are right-handed, and 10% are ambidextrous. BRB going to find glasses and treats for four cats. -via Fark
