Angry Peacock At The Petting Zoo Charges In To A Photoshop Battle

(Image Link)

Peacocks are absolutely beautiful birds, with a colorful tail full of fancy feathers meant to woo mates and mesmerize foes, but peacocks are great big jerks too.

They'll come after you if you so much as look at them funny, and since they're often allowed to roam freely in zoos they often get to pick on somebody their own size- innocent children.

So whaddya do when a peacock attacks your kid and ruins an otherwise splendid day at the petting zoo?

You submit a pic of the incident for a Photoshop Battle, so Photoshoppers can make it all better.

Redditor bwaxse submitted a photo of the traumatic incident in order to give his daughter a chance for retribution, and she totally ran with it.

Rabbit Hash Has a New Mayor

A very important Kentucky election flew under the national news radar because of the presidential race, but the scoop is out now. Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, has a new mayor. The small community has been under the watchful eye of Mayor Lucy Lou for the past eight years, but beginning in 2017, the mayor will be a pit bull named Brynneth Pawltro, or Brynn for short.

Rabbit Hash has had previous dog mayors. Three of them before Brynn, in fact, starting in 1988 with the inauguration of Goofy Borneman — a pup "of unknown parentage," according to his official bio, who served several years before dying in office at the age of 16.

The position, as you may have guessed, is largely ceremonial. The elections serve as fundraisers for the Rabbit Hash Historical Society. Participants pay $1 per ballot, and are encouraged to vote early and often.

Lucy Lou is retiring from the job, which consists mostly of sitting on the porch at the general store and greeting visitors. That will make her the first canine mayor of Rabbit Hash to survive her tenure in office. Not that the job is deadly; it's just that Rabbit Hash mayors tend to be re-elected. You can keep up with the new mayor's activities at her Facebook page.

Watching Bears Scratch Themselves is Entirely Too Amusing

(Video Link)

Everyone occassionally gets that one itch they can't scratch -even bears. While it's annoying to deal with your own unreachable itch, it's quite delightful to watch bears reach for those scratches.

Nursing Home Residents Put to Work

Pima Animal Care of Tucson, Arizona, has teamed up with Catalina Springs Memory Care nursing home to care for orphaned kittens. It's a win-win program, with kittens receiving round-the clock care from numerous volunteer nursing home residents, and the residents feel wonderful doing it. Rebecca Hamilton is the nursing home's Health Service Director, and has fostered kittens for years. She was the one who instigated the new partnership.

“To some it may seem peculiar at first: Residents who are in need of around-the-clock care themselves, given the task to care for these young kittens,” Catalina Springs Memory Care Executive Director Sharon Mercer, said. “But there are skills, emotions and needs that do not just leave a person with Dementia or Alzheimer’s. The desire to give love and receive love remains. The kittens have given us the opportunity to nurture this human condition that lies in each and every one of our residents.”

The first kittens fostered at the nursing home were Peaches and Turtle, each weighing only seven ounces. The kittens quickly gained weight under 24-hour care and feeding, and will soon be ready for adoption. Read more about the program at the Pima County website, and see more pictures at Facebook. -via Fark

Are You Hungry?

James Dinh's cat knows some English words. At least one. But that's an important word. Especially when you're pregnant.

What's really funny is the part where the cat bonks the camera and says, "Ow!" -via reddit

Cats in Cat Hair Hats

Japanese photographer Ryo Yamazaki has three cats, all Scottish folds: Nyaa, Mar, and Wheat. He kept the hair they shed during grooming, and made little cat hats out of them. I am not making this up.

See a gallery the cats in their hats at Bored Panda. There are plenty of pictures of the cats in other hats and costumes at Instagram, too. -via Metafilter

This Elephant Can't Understand Why This Girl Has No Trunk

(Video Link)

When we're little, we tend to think everyone and everything is just like us -until we learn otherwise from experience. This little elephant is going through just such a moment as he tries to understand why this weird human creature doesn't have a proper nose. Elephants rub each other's trunks the same way humans give hugs, so he's trying to show love -he just doesn't quite know how with this weird creature that can't trunk-hug him back.

Beautiful Animal Portraits By Sergey Polyushko

Animals don't have to slap makeup on or get their hair done to look amazing, they were born beautiful and will always look beautiful to our animal lovin' eyes.

Some portrait photographers have a knack for bringing out their subject's best qualities, and when they focus their lenses on animals they make their furry subjects look even more fetching.

Kiev, Ukraine based photographer Sergey Polyushko definitely has that knack, and his animal portraits somehow manage to make the average squirrel look majestic.

Sergey shoots all kinds of photos, from landscapes to macros to fashion shots, but it appears his work with animals has helped him purr-fect his portraiture skills.

The Fastest Animal in the World is Just Plain Batty

Many people still think the cheetah is the world's fastest animal, but it's really only the fastest land animal. Until recently, the correct answer was the swift, but now even people who said that are inncorrect -the fastest animal on earth is actually the Brazilian free-tailed bat. The cheetah can go up to 40 miles per hour. The swift can go up to 62 miles an hour, but the free-tailed bat blows them both out of the water, traveling an incredible 99 miles an hour. There is one challenger to the bat's title though -peregrine falcons can travel 186 miles per hour, but they can only go that fast while diving. So if you're going by overall speed, the falcon wins, but if you only count straight forward movement that could be used for travel -the bat is your safest bet.

The Saddest Cat in the World is Now Happy

This cat came into the care of the BCSPCA in Vancouver earlier this year. He had cuts all over, a cauliflower ear, and a crushed spine. Veterinarians thought he'd never walk again. Excess tissue gave him a permanently sad face, but he had plenty to be sad about. The cat stopped eating, drinking, or even trying to move. He was scheduled to be put down when a couple stepped up and adopted him.

"It appears he was attacked by a large animal... His face permanently looks sad because he has a lot of excess skin on the face, and no one knows why," BenBen's human dad shares with Love Meow.

The shelter gave him a place to stay and cared for him for a while until a family adopted him, but soon returned him because of his medical needs.

"At that point he was deemed 'un-adoptable'. The vets said he'd never walk and he'd be on pain meds for the rest of his life."

But in a permanent loving home, Benjamin Button, or Ben Ben, had a complete personality change. After an hour of cuddling, he started to move around and explore. And he's recovered his basic health, although he will need lifelong care for his injuries. Yes, Ben Ben began to walk again. Although he will always have a drooping forehead, he is obviously happy with his family and the care they give him. He's also become an internet favorite. You can see more pictures of Ben Ben at his Facebook page and his Instagram gallery.

Can You Tell if This is a Dog or a Cat?

The internet is going crazy wondering if this adorable fuzzball is a cat or a dog. It's so hard to tell with that fluffy face and grumbly mouth. I'm not going to give away the answer just yet, but I can tell you his name is Atchoum and he lives with his family in Canada -and here's another picture:

So which is he? Well, he is actually a cat, but not just any kitty. He's a Persian that happens to have hypertrichosis -aka werewolf syndrome.
