Well, that's just what you'd expect from a cat. He climbs on the furniture, knocks things off tables, watches TV, pranks the dog, takes selfies, flirts with the neighbors, menaces wildlife, and then welcomes you home, acting as if he's been a good boy all day. -via Everlasting Blort
There are so many skateboarding animals out there it's hard to stand out, and the animals who manage to draw the internet's attention quickly lose many of their followers when the new skater cat or dog comes along.
But nobody will ever forget Otto the skateboarding English Bulldog from Peru because he does all his own stunts, and Otto even set a Guinness world record for "longest human tunnel travelled through by a dog skateboarder" by rolling through 30 human arches.
We've seen how annoying cats can be when they're hungry, especially if they have a dinner bell. It's not so bad if you're just watching one in a video, but you have to put yourself in the place of someone who owns such a cat. Is it really worth the aggravation for a viral video? Watch the Russian cat Pusic (previously at Neatorama) order his dinner from a menu.
Pusic has to be the luckiest cat in Russia. Yeah, what you thought was going to be his dinner choice was just the appetizer! Pusic has to have everything. -via Metafilter
Snowflake has never seen anything like this! It's a huge spider that makes clacking noises. She wants to investigate, but reacts about how I would if I saw a spider this big. We know it's a remote control toy, but she doesn't. She nopes out of there twice in this video from Fabulous Mr. Pug.
Puppies are new at the business of being dogs, and they aren't very good at it. But every learning experience has to start somewhere. Watch these puppies of all breeds take their first attempt at howling. My favorite starts at 2:34.
A young cat is down in a hole, and this guy is going to do the right thing and give him a way out. The cat doesn't climb the ladder, so the guy goes down to execute a rescue. Surprise! The cat was apparently doing his own thing, and did not feel the need for your assistance. You'll want to let the rest of the video play out, because laughter is infectious no matter what language you speak. -via Digg
Hummingbirds are beautiful little birds and fun to watch flit about when they pay your house a visit, but they also like to tussle with each other, and other birds, which then becomes a different kind of spectacle.
So it seems really strange to see a whole bunch of hummingbirds, thirty to be exact, just hanging out together at a pool party without any drama, cool but strange. Oh wait, from the video description:
A record 30 hummingbirds bathe together at one time during this morning’s wash! You’d never know they will be harassing each other in five minutes’ time…
When cats and dogs and parrots and rabbits and rodents are all too ordinary to be your pets you're either very picky, very jaded from past experiences, or you just really like the idea of diversifying your pet interests.
The owner of the aardvark above says he doesn't make a very good pet but maybe a buffalo is a dream pet in a mighty large package, who am I to judge those who choose to dine with their bison?
Actually that looks like it would be really neat to do as long as the buffalo doesn't sneeze or spit on you while you're eating, and hangin' with a buffalo seems way more chill than hangin' with a kanga. I'll have no roughhousing under my roof!
Most guard dogs will follow their human around so they can keep an eye on them and sleep near their humans at night, but a dog that watches over people while they fall asleep is taking defense a bit too far.
But as the man discussed in this video discovered, his adoped golden retriever wasn't watching him from the doorway while he slept to guard him- the dog just wanted to make sure his new human wasn't going to abandon him in the middle of the night.
It's nice to be reminded that dogs have feelings too, and I don't know about you but this story gave me all the feels! *sniff* I wish my dog would watch me sleep at night...
This is what happens when a dog loves you. Kane is just a puppy, only eight months old. So why shouldn't he want to take a nap laying on top of his master? But Kane is a 160-pound mastiff.
Everyone knows that sloths are adorable, but there's a lot more to any creature than its relative level of cuteness and sloths are particularly fascinating critters. For example, did you know that even experts experienced with sloths aren't always able to tell the difference between males and females of the species? Or that they even move faster in water than they do on land/trees? Or that they don't drink water?
It's incredible to think about a pet cat living for a quarter of a century without suffering from any serious medical problems, and a cat living into its thirties seems like a tall tale considering they only live for about five years in the wild.
But the cats who have broken the world records for age are proving cats can have more than nine lives- and might someday reach the ripe old age of 40.
The nonplussed cat in these pics is named Nutmeg, and his owners Liz and Ian Finlay claim he's 31 years old, which would make him the world's oldest living cat since the previous record holder Scooter died in 2016 at age 30.
But there's one problem with Nutmeg's world record- there isn't any documentation of his actual age because he was a rescue:
When Liz and Ian Finlay found him in their garden in 1990, the Cat Protection League estimated he was at least 5 years old. They have given him his forever home ever since. In 2016, he celebrated his 31st birthday. That's 141 in cat years.
Nutmeg nearly didn't make it to 31. He had a stroke in 2015, but was saved by Dr Gillis and her team at Westway Veterinary Group in Newcastle on Tyne. The Finlays hope they will have him for a few years more.
I love the imaginative names these kittens have. Meet Strudel and Schnitzel, Auto and Motive, Cletus and Bubba, Hot Dog and Tatertot, Vents Du Sud, and my favorite, Lugnut.
Cats don't normally have a hard time telling their humans when they're hungry, and some cats will practically claw their owner's skin off to get their way when their food bowl is empty.
But Mini, the adorable tabby cat in this video, has worked out a system with her owner that facilitates conversation between the two and serves as Mini's catchphrase- the "Ya hungry?" system.
Magic tricks are scary if you have no idea how magicians make stuff disappear, and kids are so willing to believe they think magicians have magic powers until someone spoils the tricks for them by telling them how they're done.
But puppies don't know what's going on one way or the other, so their reaction to Jose Ahonen's magic tricks isn't so much "ooh" and "aah" as "what did you do to my treat, human?!", although the Chihuahua was definitely scared of Jose's magical abilities. Then again, Chihuahuas are scared of everything...
