Jeffrey the tortoise is one smart (and persistent) cookie. While outside of his human's home, he decides he'd rather be inside. So Jeffrey isn't shy about letting himself in via the screen door. The only problem is that the tortoise doesn't bother to shut the door after himself. Imagine! Does he live in a barn?! Via Arbroath
Are you in need of a smile? Check out Lola the adorable chihuahua puppy as she romps with two bouncy baby goats. Lola seems inspired by the goats hopping around and at times she almost appears to be imitating them. Even when Lola gets playfully headbutted, she's still game to keep up the playtime. Perhaps the puppy wants to be a goat when she grows up.
Sophia was a 6-year old St. Bernard with terminal cancer. She loved to play in the snow. But her final day came in the middle of summer. Her human, Alyson Page, nonetheless found a way to give her a last experience with snow hours before she was put to sleep.
Page took Sophia to the Chill Factore, an indoor snow skiing facility in Manchester, UK. The Manchester Evening News quotes Page:
"She absolutely loves the snow, so I sent an email cheekily on the off-chance, I never expected them to be so kind to let us come and bring her.
"We got a reply yesterday and it was just before we were due to have her put to sleep, so it was just amazing.
"She has not really shown any interest in anything for a couple of weeks now, so just to see her with a waggy tail and diving around in the snow has just been amazing. It's been a wonderful end for her."
A sweet looking cat gazes longingly at an inflatable rubber ducky toy floating in a bathtub full of water and suds. The cat likely has kitty visions of calmly sailing above the water on the nice cushy float. Yet once the cat jumps, reality sets in. Water is deeper than kitty. Water is wet. Suds are... sudsy. The cat scrambles out of the bathtub and goes running for the hills, likely never to make that mistake again. Via Uproxx
In the 1942 Disney movie Bambi, the young deer is best friends with a little rabbit named Thumper. Now that sotry has come true. Volunteers at the Lula W. Dorsey Museum in Estes Park, Colorado recently recorded a fawn and rabbit playing together on the front lawn of the museum.
We may not have enough drone regulations in place here in the U.S., but it appears air traffic over Australia is now being regulated by animal kingdom royalty.
This brief but eventful video was shot by Melbourne Aerial Video, who wants to assure everyone that the eagle wasn’t harmed in the making of this video:
"Eagle was fine — she was massive, and used talon's to 'punch' the drone out of the sky. Hung around overhead so I got a really good look," the video's description states. "Eagle's health was my main concern also."
And they have these wise words for future drone pilots:
"Do not fly drones near birds of prey, they clearly attack seeing you as a threat or the right sized dinner. This will cost you money and potentially harm to the bird. This one was fine ... the drone needed some attention before it could fly again."
Mfuwe Lodge in Zambia is a beautiful getaway for human occupants, but it also serves at least one family of elephants annually. Three generations of elephants return each year from late October to mid-December, taking the shortcut through the lodge in order to feast on the fallen mangos from the trees on the grounds. This footage catches the elephants' shortcut beautifully and features the entire family, with baby in tow. What an interesting amenity of the lodge! Via Arbroath
Is your cat getting in between you and your computer? Don’t just prod him away. Give him a computer of his own! This is the Cat Scratch Laptop, a toy computer for your feline companions. It has a customizable wallpaper that slides in and out. The keyboard consists of a scratching surface. A mouse plugs in on the left (sorry, it’s not wireless). There are no details about memory or processing speed, so you’re taking a chance there. Presumably they’re upgrade-able, though.
Many cats have bold, vibrant personalities, and just because a cat isn’t interested in playing or entertaining their humans doesn’t mean they don’t dish out cattitude on a daily basis.
But the internet generation demands classifications for everything, so see if you can sit your cat down in front of your computer and have them take a fun, interactive quiz.
The Intercative Experiment by Poopy Cat will help you determine whether your cat is a poser, a busy bee or a cuddle bug, thereby bringing you one step closer to answering that age old question- what the heck is my cat thinking?!
No, he doesn’t do Disney like people do -the tiny hamster gets his own tiny rides and his own tiny concessions. And his own tiny Mickey Mouse ears. Watch him take a tour throughout the Haunted Mansion and eat churros and Doel whips! The best moment is at 1:05, when he realizes he’s on camera. Check out the behind-the-scene video here. -Thanks, Elijah Jones!
Ivette Ivens of Chicago adopted a French bulldog pup when she realized that he was born on the same day as her infant son Dilan, thinking it was a sign that the pup should be in her family. Ever since, the bulldog, which the family named Farley, has been like a brother to little Dilan. Ivans said,
“I’m pretty sure Dilan thinks they’re both the same species, as they walk at the same level and are both going through the stage of chewing on everything.”
Ivans is a photographer specializing in family shoots. She has a book on breasfeeding coming out soon called Breastfeeding Goddess. See more adorable photos of Dilan and Farley here. (Includes one NSFW-ish breastfeeding shot.) Keep up with Ivens' projects at her website, Facebook and Instagram.
In a world where so many cats get by on their looks alone, Hamilton is doubly blessed. Hamilton was born with the most magnificent facial markings a cat can ask for. What a mustache! Hamilton, or Hammy, doesn’t mind posing for lots of pictures. His Facebook page has plenty of them, and of other cats who have great mustaches, too. His Instagram account has even more photos. -via reddit
Flying is for suckers. When Stanley, an African grey parrot, wants to go downstairs, he just slides down the bannister. Janice Jensen, an animal care advocate in Hong Kong, recorded this video and notes the approval of the resident dogs when Stanley reaches the bottom.
Edward Scissorhands is a seven-week-old Linnaeus’ two-toed sloth being raised by zookeepers at the London Zoo. The zoo staff had to take over Edward's care and feeding on a diet of goat's milk when his mother was not producing the milk necessary for his development.
Edward will be reunited with mama in several weeks. As of now, a tool used in his development is a sloth stuffed animal supplied by his keepers. Through playtime with the stuffed animal, Edward is learning to hang and develop muscles he'll need to eventually live a sloth's life in the trees. Learn more about Edward at the London Zoo. This video compilation has some hilarious footage of dogs using their most creative approaches to execute raids on the chows in the kitchen, behind their humans' backs. It's pretty amazing to see the ways in which they boost themselves up to high countertops and navigate the shelves and drawers of refrigerators. If I saw similar footage of my dogs, I'd figure any foods they obtained by such impressive means were well deserved. Via Tastefully Offensive
