From Mr.TVCow comes the cutest little guerrilla fighters ever, with a mad plan to save the world from the dangerous zombies! (And to prove once again, that cats are better than humans, at least on video.) -via Metafilter

This National Geographic video features footage of a number of animal species sleeping, with a bit of information about each. From bats to panda bears, the way they appear during their peaceful slumber is endearing.
Chinchillas are adorably cute, but terribly strange creatures that can't handle heat or exposure to the slightest amounts of water. They tend to be happiest in their homelands of the dry, freezing Andes Mountains. But this little guy is a rebel. He's like Olaf from Frozen and dreams of a warm day on a cool beach.
While Bubu may not actually be able to enjoy a pool-side soak out in the hot summer sun, his human was nice enough to mimick the experience as well as possible with a cute little private pool and a fancy coconut cocktail. It may not be 100% real, but it's enough to make me jealous.
It's been a long, hard summer. Even bears enjoy relaxing in hammocks to drip off some of the stress. That's probably why this bear family wandered into the backyard of Carol Harrington in Washington Borough, Warren County, New Jersey. She's seen them occasionally in the 13-14 years that she's lived there. But they've never been so interested in her patio furniture!
An exceedingly rare pink dolphin spotted previously in Louisiana has again been sighted. The adult bottlenose dolphin is occasionally seen swimming in the Calcasieu River. Boat captain Erik Rue says he recently saw the dolphin mating, so speculation is that she may now be pregnant. Rue said of his most recent Pinky sighting in an interview with ABC affiliate WGNO, “She looks happy and healthy.”
The reason for the tint of Pinky's skin is under debate. Some experts have said she's an albino of the species and others believe she may have a genetic condition in which her blood vessels are just under her skin, giving it the rosy color.
See a video of a previous Pinky sighting and read more about her at Mental Floss.
Gorillas are extremely intelligent animals and therefore likely to get bored sitting around a zoo enclosure all day, and there are days when they're both bored and tired of being simply stared at by humans.
They see us staring at small screens all day long and wonder what's so interesting about those shiny objects, because gorillas have never had a friend like this guy
This lucky gorilla calls the Louisville Zoo's award winning 4-acre gorilla sanctuary home, but he has never seen anything as amazing as the gorilla pics this guy's got saved on his smartphone.
In September of 2001, Denise Corliss of Texas Task Force 1 and her trained search and rescue dog Bretagne answered the call to come to New York City and search the ruins of the World Trade Center, first for survivors, then for bodies. Bretagne later helped in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Ivan, and retired at age nine. The golden retriever still volunteers for light duty at an elementary school.
Fourteen years later, Bretagne is the last known living of the hundreds of service dogs who worked the site. BarkPost and 1 Hotels teamed up to bring Bretagne and Denise back to New York for the dog’s 16th birthday celebration! Other sponsors joined in to make the trip special. Bretagne rode around in a limousine, frolicked at the park, and enjoyed a birthday party with cake and gifts. That’s a good dog. -via Uproxx
Cats are enormously popular as pets. In Europe, they recently overtook dogs as the most popular companion animal. You love your cat. But, animal behaviorists tell us, your cat doesn't actually love you.
Researchers at the University of Lincoln (UK) found that although dogs experience separation anxiety when their humans are absent, cats don't really care. As long as their physical needs are addressed, the absence of their humans is unconcerning. Sarah Knapton writes for the National Post:
“Previous research has suggested that some cats show signs of separation anxiety when left alone by their owners, in the same way that dogs do, but the results of our study show that they are, in fact, much more independent than canine companions.
“It seems that what we interpret as separation anxiety might actually be signs of frustration.” To find out if cats needed their owner to feel secure, the researchers observed how 20 cats reacted when they were placed in an unfamiliar environment together with their owner, with a stranger or on their own.
The study monitored the amount of contact sought by the cat, the level of passive behaviour, and signs of distress caused by the absence of the owner.
“Although our cats were more vocal when the owner rather than the stranger left them with the other individual, we didn’t see any additional evidence to suggest that the bond between a cat and its owner is one of secure attachment,” Prof Mills said.
The researchers insist that cat owners should take their findings as a compliment. A cat doesn't stay with you because it emotionally has to, but because it wants to. The National Post quotes cat expert Celia Haddon:
This study shows cats do not need their humans to feel safe, they look after themselves. But in a way that’s a real compliment. Cats won’t live in an unhappy home, they’ll just walk out.
This sweet footage shows a horse who has his girlfriend in mind when he scores a mouthful of hay. She's tied up at the moment and can't gather some for herself, so it's her man to the rescue. Hay, girl! Via Tastefully Offensive
Yesterday at the Canadian Football League Labor Day Classic in Calgary, the star of the show was a jackrabbit that rushed the field. Maybe he was trying to teach the players a thing or two about speed. Anyway, the rabbit was penalized 15 yards for excessive end zone celebration.
Honestly, the crowd cheered so loudly when he crossed the goal line, the rabbit couldn’t help but launch himself several feet up. Then he immediately ran the field the other way to score again for the other team. He sure put on a show! A good time was had by all. Well, we don't know about the rabbit- he didn't grant any post game interviews. -via reddit
If you’re a cat. discovering the toilet paper roll is a true epiphany. You can sink your claws into it nicely. It moves! And moving it round and round makes a nice pile of stuff to play with on the floor.
This is the biggest exception to the “over the top” rule of hanging toilet paper. If your cat gets in the habit of doing this, having the paper roll out underneath, while not keeping it from being shredded, will at least keep the entire roll off the floor. But as illustrated from the static image at the top, cats can eventually learn to get around this trick, too. -via Tastefully Offensive
This adorable grizzly cub, while a little unsteady yet in his two-footed gait, seems interested in playfully interacting with the photographer as he passes by. It almost looks as if the cub is motioning for him to come over. Luckily the photographer is well aware that meeting mama grizzly in that situation is hardly advisable. Via Tastefully Offensive
The humans have put wavy things on their moving dens. They exist to frighten and confuse cats. Sometimes they even squirt water. You may bat at them, but you will never be able to catch one. This compilation video shows cats doing their best to defeat the fiendish windshield wipers, but never succeeding.
