Cat's in Tanks is the feline epic that shows cats in tanks with lasers. Win. NSFW language when the lady screams the f-bomb. link

EOLE Wristwatch Concept is Powered by Blowing on the Face

This EOLE concept watch is pretty cool. That red ring that looks like something from an electric razor commercial is actually a generator that creates the power needed to run the watch face when the wearer blows on it. I would think it needs a battery too or the time would be reset each time you stop blowing on the face. link

VW Van Shell Riveted to WWII Tank Chassis for Serious Off-Roading

I'm not a huge fan of the VW vans like this one, but when you put the van on a set of tank treads, you have my interest. Apparently the shell to the VW was riveted onto a WWII era tracked ATV called the Weasel. This might be the ultimate off-road camping machine. link

Charlie Bit My Finger: The Horror Movie

The hit viral video “Charlie Bit My Finger” is now being turned into a feature length major motion picture. OK, maybe not but this short film imagines what a horror version of the video would be like. See full video at the link.

Busuu: A Language That Only 8 People Speak

Busuu is a language that is only spoken by eight people in the world (according to Wikipedia this may be as low as three people as of 2005) in Cameroon. To help save this dying language the folks at Busuu.com have created  a music video in the Busuu language. See the full video at the link.

Cell Phones are Killing Bees

The next time you have a pesky swarm of bees in your back yard, don’t call the exterminator. According to a recent study, apparently all you have to do is pull out your iPhone.
The calls act as an instinctive warning to leave the hive, but the frequency confuses the bees, causing them to fly erratically. The study found that the bees’ buzzing noise increases ten times when a cell phone is ringing or making a call – aka when signals are being transmitted, but remained normal when not in use.

Sloth Crosses Road

(YouTube link)

There are lot of road-crossing sloths on YouTube, but this little guy in Costa Rica gets a hand from a fellow who has done this before. I never noticed before how much longer a sloth's front legs are compared to their rear legs. The green color comes from a specific type of moss that sloths host as camouflage. -via Arbroath

Serpent Still Lifes

Photographer Guido Mocafico takes pictures of snakes, but it wasn't always so. He was once deathly afraid of them!
The first time I photographed a snake up close, I nearly fainted. I’d always found them terrifying, but also fascinating—an attraction-repulsion I think most people experience when they encounter beautiful animals that creep or crawl. My goal with this series is to explore that intersection of human emotions.

Shown are three colorful bush vipers of the same species. See a collection of Mocafino's snake portraits at National Geographic. Link

Good For Me

DDT {wiki} is a pesticide that was used extensively in the US from 1939 until it was banned in 1972. It was very effective in controlling insects that spread typhus in Europe and malaria in tropical regions, but it also accumulated in the ecosystem, killed wildlife, and was found to have harmful effects on humans as well. But in the 1940s and '50s, pesticide companies promoted DDT as the cure-all for everything. This 1947 ad gave quite a few reasons DDT is "good for me." See the rest of it at Mindfully. Cow Crash Coincidences Culminate in Cowshed Conflagration

Joe Diffie had a song called "Third Rock from the Sun" about an unbelievable chain of events. A traffic accident in New Zealand is almost as strange. A motorist was traveling near the town of Kaponga Friday night when he hit a cow, killing it.
The animal was thrown over the top of the car, peeling back the bonnet and shattering the windscreen. The car smashed into a pole which caused a power surge to race along the wires into the farmer's house.

The same surge blew up the cowshed meter board and set it on fire. However, it melted a water line directly above which extinguished the blaze.

The driver was not seriously injured. Link -via Fark
