Buffalo Chicken Chili Is A Perfect Snack for the Season

Buffalo chicken wings are great, but they aren't exactly a meal. If you're looking for a better way to enjoy those flavors as a main course, whether for a good party treat or just for diner at home, this tasty treat by Closet Cooking combines the classic flavors of chicken, hot sauce (make it Frank's for the most traditional flavor) and blue cheese. Fritos would be a great crispy addition, especially since you don't want to dip fresh celery in it like you would if you were eating real buffalo wings.

Here Are 5 Fun Facts About Coffee For National Coffee Day

Powered by Caffeine T-shirt

Woohoo! Today, September 29, 2013, is National Coffee Day. It's a day where we celebrate and drink coffee ... waitaminit. That's every day. Heck, what is National Coffee Day for, then?

How about some neat-o facts about coffee from Neatorama's archives while you're sipping that hot cup of joe?

1. Caffeine is the world's most popular psychoactive drug

In the United States alone, over 90% of adults are estimated to consume caffeine every day. The alkaloid (that's the chemical classification of caffeine - a group of naturally occurring chemical compound containing nitrogen) is present not only in coffee, but also in soft drinks and energy drinks, food, and even chewing gums.

What's inside a cup of coffee? You'd be surprised.
Love caffeine so much that you want coffee that's 200% more caffeinated than normal? We've got you covered.

2. Forget civet poop coffee, here comes elephant poop coffee!

By now, everybody knows that you can drink coffee processed from civet poop. But Neatoramanauts know something even better: coffee made from elephant poop. The Black Ivory Coffee aint' cheap though. It'll set you back $50 a cup.

3. A new way to "drink" coffee ...

Is through your butt! A florida couple named Mike and Trina get their caffeine fix through the wrong end of their digestive systems: via coffee enemas.

4. Coffee ring formation is surprisingly complex

University of Pennsylvania's Department of Physics and Astronomy shared this video microscopy of the Coffee Ring Effect.

Wait, why did scientists even bothered to take that video anyhow? It's because scientists drink more coffee than anyone. They also probably spilled more coffee than anyone - well, enough anyhow that they bothered to investigate the physics of spilling coffee while walking.

5. Humans have been drinking coffee since the 15th century

And as this advertisement from 1652 (yep, 1652) said about coffee, "It is known by experience to be better then any other Drying Drink for People in years, or Children that have any running humors upon them, as the Kings Evil. &c."

Bonus Fact: Caffeine is plant's natural defense mechanism: it kills insects

Image: Annie Cavanagh and David McCarthy

You wouldn't know it from this gorgeous award-winning scanning electron micrograph by Annie Cavanagh and David McCarthy, but caffeine is pretty deadly ... to insects. Caffeine acts as a natural pesticide that paralyzes and kills certain insects that feed on the plant.

Check out more Neatorama posts about coffee (we've certainly got a LOT of them!) and coffee-related items on the NeatoShop.

Sweet Breaking Bad Cookies Just In Time for the Finale

We've seen a lot of Breaking Bad sweets before, but it's nice to see some that incorporate more than just blue rock candy -especially when we only have one last chance to enjoy goodies before the show ends for good. These cookies by Mike of SemiSweet feature RVs, crystal, Walt's birthday breakfast and even an ad for Saul Goodman -who we haven't seen the end of since the network announced a spin off based on his character.

Jesse's Original Recipe Donuts

Rebel Donuts has sold Breaking Bad donuts featuring blue rock candy for a while now and a few other shops have also followed suit, but this is the first time I've seen any Breaking Bad food based on Jesse's original meth. Magee's Bakery in Kentucky made a great tribute to the whole history of the show by releasing these great chocolate donuts with rock candy that has just a touch of chili powder in it -just like Jesse's original meth recipe.

It's A Small Cake After All

I know, I know, just posting a picture of this cake will get that infernal song stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Sorry, but despite the catchy tune, this cake, created by Cinderella Cakes for Yelp user Lyn N.'s baby's first birthday, is still amazing enough that it just has to be shared.

Flynn's Breakfasts

Walter White, Jr. (who prefers to be called Flynn now) is often shown in the series Breaking Bad while eating breakfast. What started out as a convenient way to have the family talking to each other developed into a trope about what Flynn had to eat vs. what he wanted to eat. The Whites' fortunes came to be measured by what Flynn had for breakfast. All these breakfast scenes are mapped out in one post at Thrillist.

Breaking Bad ends forever this Sunday, and while the show has repeatedly defied expectations over its five-season run, we do know a few things to be constant and true. Horrible things will always happen to Jesse Pinkman's girlfriends. Marie will always be clothed in some shade of purple. But, most importantly, you will never love anything as much as Walt Jr. loves breakfast. In celebration of the show's purest relationship, we decided to exhaustively catalog everything Flynn eats in the AM from the pilot to present.

I have a few teenagers, and it's safe to say that breakfast time is the one time of the day that you're sure to see your kid. If you have something to say, better do it over breakfast, because they have teenager things to do until bedtime. Still, the way Flynn's food has been analyzed over the series is a hoot. Finally Buffalo Wing Treats That Aren't A Mess

Buffalo wings are the ultimate game day snack, but they are also extremely messy and no one wants to keep wiping their hands or sucking on their fingers before they grab their beer to toast to a great play. That's why Can I Stay For Dinner's buffalo chicken rolls are such a great idea -they combine blue cheese, chicken and Frank's Red Hot Sauce for all the flavors of wings with egg roll wrappers to protect your fingers. They're even baked so they won't leave your fingers greasy.

There is one thing I would change though, I would switch out the little bit of cabbage filling for chopped celery as it suits the classic buffalo wing flavor better.

27 Drinks Made From Coffee

(YouTube link)

For some reason, I always thought there was just coffee, and then there was coffee with other stuff in it. This mental_floss video features guest host Wheezywaiter from The Gaslight Coffee Roasters in Chicago, who knows a lot more about coffee than I do. Since this is not a Starbucks video, I still haven't found out whether there is any coffee in a Pumpkin Spice Latte. -via mental_floss

Break Sweet With These Breaking Bad Cupcakes

There are worse things to get addicted to than cupcakes, but when they are coated in Blue Sky, it still might not be worth the risk. Either way, I'd be willing to take my chances on these sweet treats by Blakey Cakes, especially if I got my chance to eat them during Sunday night's finale.

4 Surprising Facts About Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte

Shorter days, leaves changing color and colder weather used to be the ways we can tell that fall is coming, but lately there's a new sign: Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks.

PSL card over at someecards

Pumpkin Spice Latte, or PSL as it's known to afficionados, is a seasonal drink that Starbucks trots out every fall. Each year, the release becomes more highly anticipated than the previous one, and the cult following of the drink continues to swell. Last year, there were reports shortages of the PSL at some Starbucks locations, which caused a flurry of panicked tweets. The instant version of the popular latte popped up on eBay at double the price ... and promptly sold out. Thankfully, Starbucks was able to ship more of the PSL ingredients to its stores and averted a pumpkin riot.

This year, Starbucks released a secret code that you can whisper to your barista to get the Pumpkin Spice Latte before its official release date of September 3, much to the glee of its fans. But who exactly are those PSL fanatics?

White women in yoga pants, according to Flavorwire and the Interweb:

So. If PSL is your BFF, know this about your favorite drink:

1. Starbucks Has Sold 200 Million Pumpkin Spice Latte Drinks in the Past Decade

You read that right. Starbucks has sold more than 200 million of the PSL. At the basic price $4 and 300 calories for a 12-ounce tall size, that's $800 million dollars and 60 billion calories that we've spent and consumed on the stuff.

2. Vegans Are Hopping Mad

... because it turns out that the PSL can't be made vegan. Turns out, the Pumpkin Spice Latte contains condensed milk. Vegan and Starbucks afficionado Brent Caldwell of Ferndale, Michigan, had even started a Change.org petition to get Starbucks to create a vegan-friendly version:

I am a huge fan of Starbucks. My girlfriend and I will visit our favorite location up to four times a week. We are also both vegan. Normally this is not a tremendous issue at Starbucks because so many drinks can be made with vegan and dairy-free ingredients, which generally just means using soy milk instead of cows milk.

Sadly, in the case of the seasonal Pumpkin Spice Latte, this does not hold true. There is currently no vegan option for this drink mix, which is a total bummer. [...]

Many people are shocked to hear that the mix contains condensed milk because there's no way anyone would be able to tell walking into a store and placing an order. Employees don't even realize it has milk in it!

As of this morning, the petition has garnered over 9,000 signers. If that's not a First World problem, I don't know what is.

12 Awesome Wedding Cake Alternatives

I would be pretty content with a cheese wheel or sushi cake wedding cake...but a cheeseburger or pizza one just wouldn't do it for me. That being said, I think it might be kind of awesome to have a wedding where all the foods are presented in traditional cake shape.
