LEGO is rolling out a new set based on the ice planet Hoth from the movie The Empire Strikes Back. Most of the 2,144 pieces have been available in other sets in the past, and there are some new things to build. There’s the Echo Base entrance gate, the Wampa Cave, a Wampa with detachable arms, snowspeeders, and all the relevant minifigs. Sadly, AT-ATs are sold separately. The Hoth set will cost you $249. We watch movies like The Bad News Bears, Heathers and American Pie when we're younger and don't really pay attention to the subtext, which we later discover is all kinds of messed up.
But looking back it's incredible to think that The Bad News Bears got a PG rating, considering all the cursing and racial slurs in the movie, and Heathers just hasn't felt the same since school shootings became all too common.
American Pie taught us it's okay for zany teens to film sex acts without asking for permission, and yet didn't manage to teach teens to be more careful with their compromising webcam footage.
So, while these aren't the main plots or points of these films they are the shockingly bad subtexts we can't help but see after we've grown wiser with age.
Matthew McConaughey may be know for his laid back "alright, alright, alright" line and the stoner persona he seemingly became after filming Dazed and Confused, but he's more than just a word said three times.
He's an actor, a runner, a surfer and the proud owner of a Lincoln MKX, and as this supercut video from Owenergy Studios shows "Matthew McConaughey Makes Noises". (NSFW due to language...or is it?!)
Ottawa just wrapped up a weekend of Comic Con fun, and Geeks Are Sexy and photographer Patrick-Michel Dagenais were there to record the best cosplayers!
The first gallery of 40 costumes are posted, and more will be added later on Monday.
Kat Dennings is one of my favorite famous people, and not just because she's drop dead gorgeous and wickedly funny.
Okay, so one of those two things does influence my opinion of her quite a bit- the funny.
Kat has a unique sense of humor which she loves to share with the world via her Twitter and Instagram accounts, and if you think a star can't achieve her level of fame and still remain humble read one of her silly tweets.
There's no way the Kim K.s and Gwyneths of the world would ever let themselves be as free as Miss Dennings with their social media posts, mostly because they have people posting for them.
Kat Dennings, on the other hand, does alll the quipping and the posting for herself, so reading her tweets is like peeking through her window and watching a famous person totally winning at life.
Paul Reubens has a rather unusual sense of style and a crazy collection of cool stuff, some of which has been featured in his fantastic films and far out TV show.
He's also a visionary inventor whose creations make the world a much more fun place.
But for some reason Paul doesn't get many chances to promote anything but Pee-Wee when he goes on talk shows, so the unveiling of his line of wigs for kids on Conan is a rare delight.
Kids totally trip out when their parents try to teach them about sex, so parents often look for an alternate way to introduce their kids to intercourse.
These scaredy-cat parents love to use eductional books or videos to show their kids the ropes, and sex ed videos don't come much more “alternate” than this bizarre sex ed web series from France called “Baby! Love Your Body!”.
Aside from one NSFW word that rhymes with runt (which apparently isn't a bad word in France) this video is actually made for kids- really, really strange kids who hang out with drag queens and dress like Punky Brewster.
“Baby! Love Your Body!” doesn't really explain sexual reproduction or the ins and outs of intercourse.
But the art collective behind the video The School Of No Big Deal aren't educators- they're just a bunch of good time guys and gals discussing sex in the strangest way possible.
The sarlacc preferred to eat Jabba the Hutt raw. But Hutt flesh is a bit too tough for my taste, so I pefer this solution devised by Jessica Leigh Clark-Bojin. She first created a paper stencil, which she used to create the outline. Then she created a bottom layer, added apple pieces, then the top. She cut and added Jabba's facial and body features, using egg white as a glue to hold them together. You can see more photos of these turnovers at Bored Panda.
Isn't it ironic that Alanis Morissette's hit song "Isn't It Ironic?" isn't actually about irony at all, but rather coincidence or happenstance? I guess "Isn't It Happenstance?" didn't have the same ring to it.
Twenty years ago "Isn't It Ironic?" made Miss Morissette a household name, and nowadays she has a pretty good sense of humor about the silly pop song that earned her millions of fans.
But a lot has happened in the last twenty years, so when Alanis needed lyrics for an updated version of her song she turned to James Corden for help encapsulating the ironies of the modern age.
Folks, you've gotta learn from the mistakes of others in this internet heavy age, and one of the lessons we've learned is don't fall asleep at work or your fellow employees will Photoshop you.
Now it seems like this rule shouldn't apply to the company CEO, because employees who mess with the boss will soon find themselves without a job or a reference.
But it appears some CEOs are actually cool enough to handle some digital degredation, as long as the employees use the company's own app to mess with their image.
Zeev Farbman, CEO of software company Lightricks, was in his office catching a few z's between meetings when someone snapped a pic of him snoozing.
Seeing the opportunity to "test" their image manipulation app Enlight and poke fun at the boss at the same time, the employees set about "Enlightening" the pic in glorious ways.
Next thing you know Zeev was posing for portrait artists, dancing with the Bolshoi and starting a new life as an overpriced Shake Weight. How cool is that?!
Most fans believe H.P. Lovecraft drew inspiration for the Cthulhu mythos from a variety of sources- Science fiction and mythological beings as the physical inspiration for the creatures, cosmic indifferentism and nihilism as the philosophical influence behind the stories, and horror the plot vehicle that drives the terror home.
Russian artists seem to be coming out of the woodwork online lately, but the difference between the Russian art boom and others is most of the stuff they're posting online is really good.
Whether digital, traditional or experimental, the new wave of Russian artists love to pay homage to their sources of inspiration while pushing their chosen medium forward.
If you're a fan of classic pin-up art, retro advertising or old school Rockwell style realism you'll adore the cool and colorful artwork that springs from the mind of Valery Barykin.
Valery's wonderful illustrations are a bit naughty at times but never too risqué, manage to contain modern devices and such without losing their classic appeal, and the colors and contours are always easy on the eyes.
To say an actor is an actor no matter which stage they're on is discounting the different set of skills needed to act on a stage rather than on a set.
Stage actors must emote, project their voices and move about the space so the audience can see what they're supposed to on stage, and they don't have a hundred takes to get it right.
Get the difference? If not, consult this clip from Conan where screen actor/master thespian Timothy Olyphant demonstrates the different in a most peculiar way. (Barely NSFW due to language)
Tomohiro Matsu, a prominent manga author, died on May 2. There was an outpouring of grief by those who knew him, especially those who worked with Matsu on his manga projects, many of which were adapted into animes.
Recently, his family conducted a kokubetsushiki, which is a viewing. People can visit his coffin and say goodbye before the deceased is cremated. Many artists who worked with Matsu took the opportunity to draw on the coffin images of the characters that he created and to write farewell messages.
Hiroshi Aizawa, an illustrator, took photos of the results and commented, "he wanted his send-off to be like a fun festival." It worked! You can see more pictures of the coffin at Rocket News 24.
Being in a new relationship can make you feel like you're walking on eggshells, as you try not to move too fast or make too much noise and scare off your potential partner.
But once you reach the comfort zone and settle in for a long term relationship you find that all those pieces of shell stuck in your feet were worth all the frustration and fear.
Now you're free to be your real self, with lots of free time on your hands since you no longer have to worry about bathing or getting all dolled up.
Comic artist Sarah C. Andersen visually explores the changes we undergo when we've finally suckered someone into being in a long-term relationship with us, scan the strips and smile.
