Hollywood's Old Age Makeup Versus How Actors Actually Look When They're Older

Hollywood makeup artists have perfected the art of transforming actors into any character imaginable, and yet old age makeup remains one of the hardest transformations to pull off.

Between the subtle ways our facial features change as we age, to the fact that applying too many prosthetics makes the actor look like they're wearing a Halloween mask, old age makeup is still the pinnacle of the practical fx industry.

But how many times have Hollywood makeup artists correctly guessed how an actor will look when they grow old?

(YouTube Link)

As this video by YouTuber filminick shows they're usually pretty far off, but that's because they have to exaggerate for the screen, or they're doing a Benjamin Button style character who isn't necessarily supposed to look like the actor.

Still, who could have foreseen this transformation?

Illustrator Imagines Chewbacca As Comical Visual Puns

If you could understand what the heck that walking furball is saying you'd discover that Chewbacca is actually a pretty funny fellow, and that's no small feat considering Wookiees have very little patience for comedy.

Chewie prefers pun based comedy to slapstick or observational humor, and when he gets rolling with those puns there's no stopping him.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's a massive creature with fangs and elite combat skills, and even audiences who don't fully appreciate his brand of comedy laugh when he delivers the punny.

Illustrator Joe Stone does a great job of bringing Chewie's puns to life via pen and ink in his series "Drewbacca", which follows in the footsteps of his "Drawntroopers" project. Check 'em out and LOL, or aarrragghuuhw as the case may be.

When New York Was Truly The City That Never Sleeps

To quote Grandmaster Flash “New York, New York big city of dreams, and everything in New York ain't always what it seems”, a perfectly concise summary of what makes New York such a great place to be a misfit.

The New York we know today is far more gentrified, visually scrutinized and whitewashed in the media, and is actually becoming a less nightmarish place to live- if you can afford the rent.

But back when most anyone could afford to live there, circa the 1980s, the New York City streets were a seedy, drug-fueled and very “alive” place.

NYC was truly a 24-hour town- and usually not in the good way.

(YouTube Link)

The NYC street scene was full of crime, drugs and police corruption, but the extreme economic inequality resulted in something rather surprising- hope, and community pride.

The citizens of NYC managed to keep hope alive by banding together, coming out of a long, dark decade stronger as a community because they stuck together through it all.

Animated Short About A Guy Who Gets Fired From His Job On Mars

If you get fired from your graphic design job here on Earth it's not the end of the world because there are plenty of other job opportunities out there for you, especially if you have an impressive portfolio.

But if you get fired from your job on Mars you're pretty much screwed, as Jeff the graphic designer discovered in this aptly titled animated short “Fired On Mars” by Nate Sherman and Nick Vokey. (Barely NSFW due to language)

If you saw the article Miss C recently posted about the giant alligator who nonchalantly walked across a golf course in Florida then you know it was only a matter of time before the gator wandered into Jurassic Park.

The inevitable Jurassic Park video mashup is definitely an internet "thing" nowadays, so there's sure to be another video like this one put together by YouTuber Pim Roes coming up again soon!

Back In My Day Dad Rants About The Early Internet

It has officially been more than twenty years since the internet became mainstream, so now those pioneers who lived through dial-up modems and the AOL disc-aster can talk to the youngsters about the “good old days”.

But heed this illustrated warning from C-SECTION COMICS and keep your ranting under control or you may end up facing assault charges.

Kids Play Star Wars Music with Lightsaber Violins

(Video Link)

These young padawans (note that they're dressed as Jedi) at the Ecole de l’Harmonie in Quebec demonstrate their mastery of the force by using miniature lightsabers instead of bows to play music from Star Wars.  In this excellent performance of the Luke Skywalker theme, they demonstrate their readiness to become knights.

Head Back To The Beach With Your Favorite Famous Rebels

It's almost time to head back to the beach and soak in some rays while the waves gently lap the shore, so people are working hard to get in shape so they can feel confident in their swimsuit this summer.

But if you're just okay with going to the beach then you should ignore those people who have to prepare and dress appropriately for the beach and just head down to the shore and enjoy yourself.

Take it from Iggy Pop- you don't have to sport short shorts or a bikini down by the shore, just do you however you see fit and tell those seaside conformists to "deal with it".

8 Fun Facts About the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Hollywood

A few months ago, Universal Studios Hollywood opened their version of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, similar to the one in Orlando. I was lucky enough to visit a week ago and here are some awesome trivia bits I learned about the park partnered with some pictures I took there.

Hogwarts Seems Huge

Like the castles at Disney parks, Hogwarts is the main focal point of the attraction. To make it look particularly huge and impressive despite the fact that it's built at a quarter scale to what the "real" Hogwarts would be, the building takes advantage of forced perspective.

You Can Find Authentic Details at Every Turn

The winged birds at Hogwart's entrance are made from the same molds as the ones in the movie. The sweaters sold in the gift shop are made by the same company that produced the ones from the films. The broomsticks in the Three Broomsticks are made by the same team that made the ones for the films. It's kind of amazing how much effort they went into recreating the feeling of the films' settings.

If Goosebumps Books Were Written For Gamers

Being a gamer may seem like nothing but thumb twiddling fun, but we gamers deal with a lot of dangerous stuff while we're playing through our digital dreams.

We're constantly being bombarded by crappy sequels that make us cringe, ISP interruptions that make us fear a world without an internet connection, and updates that take so long to install they cost us our lives.

But the deadliest danger faced by gamers is the silent killer of characters, a digital creep that erases all of the hours we've spent playing and leaves us in mourning- the corrupted save file. *shivers*

These People Are Definitely Going Places

(Image Link)

Some people work their butts off in school then work even harder in college so they can get that degree and work their butts off in a career that will hopefully take them places.

But as frustrating as it is for the upwardly mobile workaholics in the world they will never measure up to the greatness of those who were born to be great.

(Image Link)

They're the breed of superhuman people constantly refer to as “going places”, the ones who are constantly making moves that knock our socks off.

(Image Link)

It was much harder to be designated “going places” before the internet, but now we can share our stories of greatness with whomever will read our posts, and hopefully these posts will inspire others to take free stuff and turn it into a fiver.

The Greatest Action Figure Playsets Of The 80s And 90s

When action figure playsets first came out they were basically just a stage for your figures to run around on, helping guide imagination but adding very little to playtime.

But then the epic playsets of the 80s and 90s came along and raised the bar for all future playsets, forever changing the way kids played with their action figures.

The playsets of the 80s had molded plastic features, which made them look way cooler than the cardboard sets of the 70s, and they often featured action elements which made the imaginary battles even more fun.

Castle Grayskull is one of the most iconic playsets of the 80s, followed closely by the G.I. Joe Aircraft Carrier and the Star Wars Death Star Space Station playsets, but these sets are low on the list in terms of epicness.

(YouTube Link)

Did you want He-Man to battle in a playset worthy of his massively macho stature when you were a kid?

Then you had to convince your parents to throw down the big bucks for one of the most massive playsets of all time- The Masters Of The Universe Eternia playset, which goes for around a thousand bucks on eBay these days.

Finding Nemo in Emojis

(Video Link)

Some people love emojis and can't live without them. Others feel they're a terrible way to communicate and that the world was a lot better off before people started talking in pictograms. No matter what side of the emoji debate you stand on though you'll probably enjoy this delightful Disney animation that retells the story of Finding Nemo completely in emojis. Even if you can't figure out what they heck "Smiley heart peach kisses" means, you can almost certainly follow this simple and adorable story.

Check Out These Awesome Pop Culture Crochet Dolls

There are a lot of amigurumi (crocheted dolls) on Etsy, but while you can probably find dozens of Batman dolls, I don't think I've ever seen a Big Lebowski doll, or the Log Lady from Twin Peaks.

And that's why I'm totally in love with Hooked Hands' Etsy shop. She also has dolls from Daria, Mad Max, Moonrise Kingdom and even one of Eazy E. Of course, if you have something even more off-the-radar, she does state that she makes custom commissions as well.
