The Perfect Pet For Every Gamer

Andy Kluthe at Dorkly has figured out your perfect pet by which game system you prefer, with the reasoning behind each. This explains perfectly why I have four cats, but most of those cats were not my idea- my limit is two cats, just enough to rid the house of rodents and keep each other company. My kids need a goldfish. -via Geeks Are Sexy

Steampunk TARDIS and Dalek

Emma J, a member of the Playmobil Collectors Club, made these delightfully steampunk versions of a Dalek and the Doctor's TARDIS. Steampunk is a fun style, but it must aggravate Daleks, as they are once again hindered by stairs.

So Long, Egon

Ash Vickers of Megacynics drew this in remembrance of Harold Ramis. She explains how the illustration came about.

When I drew this, the scene popped into my head of Egon actually wanting to know what it was like to go into the trap. I never meant to imply that they'd stick him in the containment unit with the other ghosts ;P. He's smiling and saying good-bye like "no... it's fine, guys. I'll be fine!" More importantly, I was just sad today after finding out that Harold is gone. I just wanted to draw something in tribute to him and this is what popped in to my head.

Harold Ramis, who portrayed Dr. Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters, died yesterday at age 69. -via reddit

Turkish Car Insurance Ad Starring Street Fighter Ryu

(Video Link)

Car insurance exists because accidents happen, and when you live in a town that hosts street fighting tournaments there’s even more risk of something bad happening to your automobile.

Turkish auto insurance company Anadolu Sigorta wants you to know that you can rely on them to help you pick up the pieces of your wrecked car, even if the cause of the destruction is a fiery attack by Street Fighter video game star Ryu as he tries to pick up some bonus points by smashing your car to bits.

Superheroes at the Winter Olympics

Batman ski jumping.

Captain America in the luge.

The Punisher in the biathlon.

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi have closed, but not before Marvel and DC heroes had a chance to show off their skills. Francesco Francavilla created several illustrations of them on the snow and ice. You can view them at Geek Art.

This isn't the first time that we've featured Francavilla's compelling work. We've previously shown his 1970s Batman concept art and The Avengers as Vikings.

Adventure Timey-Wimey

It would be improper for me to be jealous of a 9-year old girl, but I am nonetheless. James Hance, whose geeky artwork we've featured extensively, made this mural mashing up Adventure Time and Doctor Who. Finn appears to be the Eleventh Doctor and Jake the Tenth. Lumpy Space Princess is, appropriately, an adipose.

Hance rendered the mural in acrylic paint. It measures about 4 by 5 feet.

Elsa Gives The Disney Princesses A Dose Of Reality

(Video Link)

Elsa is pretty down to earth as far as Disney royalty goes- she’s quite adaptable, brave and doesn’t need a man to make her life whole, so when she hands out advice the Disney princesses in attendance had better sit up and take notice.

This well made musical short features some strong singing skills in the style of Disney, an incredibly animated cast and karaoke style captioning so you can sing along.

It was created by AVbyte, makers of other fine pop culture themed musical shorts such as Super Mario World 3D The Musical and the totally timely Hipster Disney Princess The Musical.

The Legend of Zelda Pizza

The Legend of Zelda premiered 28 years ago last Friday. The celebrate the anniversary of that video game franchise, Danacem made this pizza. It held up pretty well in the oven, don't you think? Hopefully there's Lon Lon Milk mixed into the dough.

Elders React To Flappy Bird

(Video Link)

Old(er) folks say the darndest things, and when they’re presented with the latest trend in annoying difficult video games they don’t have a problem pushing some buttons and expressing what a hard time they have playing video games, or understanding how such a simple game could have become so trendy.

The Flappy Bird's day in the sun may be drawing to a close, but now a bunch of old(er) folks have been turned on to the nearly impossible to beat Nintendo ripoff, and some of them seem like they might actually play the game again when the cameras are off. Most, however, had their fill in about five minutes!

Flappy Bird In A Box Hack

(Video Link)

From the sound of the title you may be expecting to see something perverted, or in the process of dying, in this video. Instead what you will find is a low tech version of the already low tech game that caused a stir on the interwebs before (most likely anyway) Nintendo put enough pressure on the game maker that he finally pulled it from distribution.

Flappy Bird in a box is a side scrolling paper version created by Fawn Qiu, a geek and founder of MakeAnything who strives to "promote creativity and engineering concepts through hands-on kits". Fawn's box hack version is just as hard as the original, but with much more DIY charm.
