Beautiful Iron Man Stained Glass Window

Tom Moloney's stained glass image of Iron Man is particularly striking because of its excellent use of lines to convey motion. It's professional quality, which is what we should expect from a professionally-trained artist who has worked in stained glass for 30 years. You can see more of Moloney's work at his website.

What If Forrest Gump Was Directed By Wes Anderson?

(Video Link)

Forrest Gump is one of those polarizing films that some people love and others find extremely cheesy. Wes Anderson films are similarly polarizing, with anti-Andersonites always picking fights with the pro-Wes set.

Louis Paquet is the filmmaker who brought the two together, not sure what his stance is on either one though, you'll have to check with him to see where he stands on this important issue.

So what would the opening credits of Forrest Gump have looked like if it was directed by Wes Anderson? Let’s just say there are a bunch of beautiful static shots of stuff from the movie, accompanied by a lively soundtrack created by DEVO alum Mark Mothersbaugh. Splendid!

Preview The Masaaki Yuasa Directed Episode Of Adventure Time

(Video Link)

Adventure Time is a brilliant cartoon show in so many ways- it introduces new audiences to old school animation style, it features a world full of adventure that provides a nearly limitless source of episode material, and it stars colorful and funky characters that have just enough depth to make them interesting and plenty of strange.

Masaaki Yuasa is a dynamic director with many titles under his belt, such as Mind Game, Kaiba and Ping Pong, and he was recently given free reign to storyboard and direct a self-contained episode without any oversight by the Adventure Time staff.

Please enjoy this preview of Massaki's upcoming episode "Food Chain", fresh from the Adventure Time panel at Wondercon.

Ellen's Appearance on Game of Thrones

(YouTube link)

Ellen Degeneres returns to her standup roots for a guest appearance on the HBO show Game of Thrones. She plays -what else- the court jester. Despite what she tells you, I see hardly any spoilers here. There might be if it made any sense, but we don’t watch standup comedians for their logic. -via Tastefully Offensive

The Fifth Element - 8-Bit Cinema Edition

(Video Link)

Cult classic sci-fi flick The Fifth Element is beloved by fans for its original sense of humor, vibrant characters, and truly unique twist on the sci-fi genre, but when TFE gets an 8-bit makeover the whole thing becomes even more far out!

Cinefix's conversion of The Fifth Element into a pixel-tastic, video game inspired animated short may not replace the original movie in the hearts of fans, but once again they have done a great job of making me long for an old school style video game that will never come out. *sigh*

Star Wars - Bad Foley Edition

(Video Link)

Star Wars is one of the most beloved sci-fi franchises of all time, and both the special effects and the movie soundtracks still hold up decades later.

A big part of the original trilogy’s charm is the fun foley sound effects created specifically for the films- they're so iconic you can tell a lightsaber from a blaster rifle from a TIE fighter just by hearing the sound, but what would Star Wars be without those iconic foley sound effects?

YouTube user Hudson Hongo brings us Star Wars: Bad Foley Edition in an effort to prove just how important sound effects are to those wars in the stars.

Harry Potter Reimagined As A 1980s Cyberpunk Anime

(Video Link)

Kids who grew up in the 80s didn’t have Harry Potter in their lives, but frankly they didn’t need the shrimpy spell flinger hanging around when they had Transformers, Dungeons & Dragons and He-Man to keep their imaginations occupied.

However, now that the lil scarhead has made such a big splash in the world of geekdom he’s being integrated into all kinds of silly projects, like this animated short which reimagines Harry Potter as a 1980s Anime series.

Created by Nacho Punch, Harry Potter Cyber Punk Adventure: The 1980's Anime is heavy on the Akira influence and light on the teen angst, and would have looked right at home with the Saturday Morning cartoons lineup.

Comedians Gather For A Space Jam Table Read

(Video Link)

Unless you're a diehard fan of both basketball and Bugs Bunny chances are Space Jam didn’t make its way onto your top ten movie list.

However, those who grew up in the 90s consider this composited animated feature to be a fun bit of nostalgia from their childhood, and the rest of us are left wondering why the heck they made such a ridiculous movie.

It turns out the reason they made Space Jam is so a bunch of hilarious comedians like Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer, and Seth Green could resurrect the film’s script nearly twenty years later for a hilarious table read! Now that’s a Space Jam I can get behind!

Amazing Treasure Planet Cosplay Of Captain Amelia

We have shared many fine examples of cartoon character cosplay over the years, but Ryoko Demon’s portrayal of Captain Amelia from the Disney animated feature Treasure Planet really takes the cake!

Ryoko Demon brings the fearless character to life like never before, with seamless makeup that makes her look like a real purrty alien cat lady and an equally high quality wardrobe just like what the character wore in the animated feature, complete with far out laser rifle.

Treasure Planet didn’t receive the attention or critical acclaim normally associated with Disney movies, but cosplayers like Ryoko Demon may inspire people to look into this underrated Disney flick.

Star Wars Mosaics Made of Tens of Thousands of Staples

James Haggerty is an artist who works in many different media. Among his more inventive projects are large mosaics of Star Wars characters that use tens of thousands of individual staples.

Isn't that amazing? I've never thought of using staples for art, but I can see how they would work well.

You can see more of his work at Nerd Approved, including an image of C-3PO consisting of 33,580 staples.

X-Wing Lamp Lights up the Night

(Photos: Ollie Harrop)

Benjamin Rice, a designer in Manchester, UK, made this lamp for SPIN London, an urban bicycling show. Appropriately, he made it from old Raleigh Grifter children's bikes. In this darkened setting, the X-wing looks like it's making the trench run.

Animated Short - Scientifically Accurate Spongebob Squarepants

(Video Link)

It’s safe to say that Spongebob Squarepants is not a scientifically accurate cartoon show, despite the fact that the squirrel wears a diving suit and the squid is a bit of a jerk.

Toon heads don’t tune in to see science, they watch to see zany antics and colorful characters, so making a scientifically accurate version of Spongebob would totally ruin the show.

Well, that’s exactly what the folks from Animation Domination High-Def have done with their short Scientifically Accurate Spongebob Squarepants, and once you watch it you may not be able to watch Spongebob ever again without wondering about the dark truths ADHD has revealed about life in Bikini Bottom.

Hot Topic Unveils Fashion Line Inspired By Maleficent

Maleficent is definitely one of the most stylish Disney villains, and Hot Topic is a company that caters to those who choose to live on the fringe of society, people who have a lot in common with cartoon villains.

Now the two dark forces are teaming up to bring Maleficent inspired fashion designs to the teens and tweens of the world, aka villains-in-training.

Hot Topic shoppers are sure to love this decidedly dark clothing line, not to mention the geek creds bestowed upon them by the Maleficent tie-in, and even though the gals who don this wicked wardrobe will appear to have a dark side, their only dark secrets are that they all have a Disney princess dress hanging in their closet!

This Model Stargate Spins, Lights Up, Kills Anyone Standing Too Close to It

(Video Link)

That's basic stargate safety protocol. You stand at least 40 feet away from the event horizon so that the unstable vortex doesn't annihilate you. It does not scale down, so follow the same rule on this miniature stargate made by YouTube user TheEnchantedBeer. S/he is working on this project with a colleague 9400 kilometers away. They hope to transport something between their stargates:

This is an international collaboration of friends located about 9400km apart, so a device for transporting across vast distances seems perfect. Unfortunately, I cannot yet generate wormholes at will, so we will have to settle for transporting information via the internet.

The project consists of a small(19cm diameter), SG-1 variety stargate with dialing computer. It will move and light up just like the version in SG-1. When a proper address is dialed, a connection will be opened up via the internet to a corresponding device or computer. Exactly what will be transmitted has not yet been decided. The hardware/internet interface will be via arduino.

This is one of several Stargate-related entries in Hack A Day's Sci-Fi Contest. The contest ends on April 29, so unless you can build a time machine, you'd better get cracking.

*In reality, 20 feet is fine. But, you know--lawyers. So our rule is 40 feet.
