Oh The Fun Those Toons Would Have Had At Marvin Acme's Funeral

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is one of those beloved films that fans like just the way it is, and with the popularity of the film as a whole it’s probably best that one major scene was deleted from the final script of the movie- Marvin Acme's toon-filled funeral.

Despite the damper this morbid scene would have put on the movie as a whole, it would have made for a pretty entertaining scene to watch play out, according to these original storyboards from the film which were recently put up for auction on Ebay.

The funeral scene starred Foghorn Leghorn as a preacher, cast Goofy, Bluto, Felix the Cat and others as pallbearers, and contained a shot where Yosemite Sam angrily tosses Acme’s coffin into his grave, making it the most hilarious fake funeral ever proposed!

Watch The Failed Pilot For The 2001 Reboot Of Electra Woman And Dyna Girl

(Video Link)

There was once a superhero TV show reboot that simply didn’t make the cut, a show which could have led the way to the new television golden age of superheroic media franchises but simply fell flat with test audiences.

The show was called Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, starring Markie Post (of Night Court fame) and  Anne Stedman, based on the old Sid & Marty Kroft show of the same name that aired in the mid-1970s.

The show was developed by a young exec at the WB, and because it was to air on the WB it actually took place in the DC Universe, predating the hit show Smallville which would premiere one year later.

So what happened to this reboot? Was it simply too cynical for audiences to enjoy? Is this show another example of TV and movie execs passing on a superhero show with female lead characters? Watch this unaired pilot and see for yourself.

JawZilla

(YouTube link)

Aspiring actor and film director Anthony Trombetta took the audio from the new Godzilla film trailer and edited in slips from the 1975 Steven Spielberg movie Jaws. They go together quite well! The result just shows us how regimented the art of storytelling has become in a monster movie. Or at least in constructing the trailer. -via Laughing Squid

Remember When The Ninja Turtles Were On Oprah?

(Video Link)

The Ninja Turtles may have become pop culture icons, and remain instantly recognizable to most people, but back in the early 90s they were seen as a passing fad in children’s entertainment, one that parents just didn’t understand.

Nevertheless, the rubber suit variety of TMNT made all kinds of appearances, both televised and in person, in an effort to convince the general public that they aren't dangerous space aliens, or a bad influence on kids.

In this particularly colorful 1990 appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show they sing their teenage mutant hearts out, chow down on some Chicago style pizza, and generally drive the kids in the audience wild while their parents are left with that WTF look on their faces...

The Most Epic Way To Sell A '93 Volvo Station Wagon

(Video Link)

What’s the best way to sell a 1993 Volvo station wagon? Some might say local advertising, or through a friend or family member, or even at an auction, but Swedish art director Castor wasn’t about to resort to such mundane methods when it came to selling his beloved persimmon colored Volvo.

Castor went full epic with his sales pitch, creating a cinematic masterpiece that properly showcases his used vehicle for what it is- a mega machine built by mechanical wizards, which rolls around town on spinsy winsies and may or may not somehow contain hepatitis b. Shut up and take my money!

R.I.P. Alien Artist H.R. Giger

(Image Via Arno Balzarini/AP Photo)

It is truly a sad day for fans of the dark and mysterious works of H.R. Giger- the beloved artist has passed away at 74 years old from injuries suffered from a fall.

Giger is best known for his concept art work for the Alien films, his album cover art, his radical biomechanical surrealist paintings and his incomparable illustrative skills with an airbrush.

The Swiss artist was quite proud of the impact his art has made on the world of pop culture, and even though many in the art world saw his art as nothing more than "morbidly kitsch" his fans, myself among them, will always remember his works as an imaginative vision of the dark side of science fiction.

May he find the afterlife far more comforting than what he'd depicted in his paintings!

On a Scale of Luke Skywalker to Jaime Lannister

What does Game of Thrones have in common with Star Wars? The comparison comes in the form of a scale, which only points out how the characters of Luke Skywalker and Jaime Lannister are one and the same, only varying in intensity. The meme was started by Tumblr blogger Ryann, who posed this innocent question:

on a scale of luke skywalker to jaime lannister how well would you deal with losing your right hand

Oh yes, they both lost their right hand in the midst of their adventures. But that was only the beginning. The Daily Dot rounded up many more examples as the meme bounced around the Tumble universe.

A Cthulhuian Font You Can Download And Use To Summon Strange Beings

When the Great Old Ones have something to say they don’t wanna speak no English, they want a language that properly conveys their slime drenched derision for mankind, a language that makes humans think of tentacles and strange polyp shaped beings when they hear it being spoken aloud.

Few mortals have ever had the temerity to speak the names of the Great Old Ones aloud, much less try to speak in their native tongue, but a foolish mortal calling himself StapletonMcTavish has unlocked the secret of the Cthulhuian alphabet and he has released it upon mankind via the internet.

Download it, craft tales with it, and pray its very presence doesn't drive you insane!

If the Audience Were a Character On Game of Thrones

Dorkly has a hit on their hands here with a comic that combines two internet obsessions: Game of Thrones and cats. It all fits in with the fan discussions asking why Daenerys Targaryen’s storyline is in every episode even though nothing much happens in her kingdom. It’s not hard to figure out, as she is the most attractive female in the story and has dragons.

I actually saw my first full episode of Game of Thrones last night, because my husband got a free trial of HBO. He was kind of shocked that I could explain who most of the characters were and why they were important, all of which I just picked up on the internet.

10 Beautiful Attack on Titan Tattoos

The anime series Attack on Titan is a thrilling story of human struggle and survival. The series has developed a strong fanbase of creative people. We've previously featured fan art inspired by the series. Now let's look specifically at tattoos about the defenders of humanity.

Damien Murphy is inking her entire back with anime-themed tattoos. The phrases "See you space cowboy" and "You're gonna carry that weight" are from Cowboy Bebop. The central image is the Survey Corps logo and the paired swords carried by human soldiers.

Members of the Survey Corps are the great heroes of humanity in Attack on Titan. They do not hide behind the walls that separate humanity from the titans, but venture out into the wild. It is an immensely dangerous task and the lifespan of a Survey Corps member is not long. But their work is the promise of eventual freedom. So their crest is known as the Wings of Freedom. The design works well for large back tattoos, as Angel Heichou demonstrates.

Attack on Titan is a story of courage and sacrifice. It shows humanity at its best, which is perhaps why the Wings of Freedom inspires so many people, including ecchispaidesu.

Here is a titan--one of the human-devouring giants that has nearly wiped out humanity. I won't spoil it for you, but I will say this about Alex Addams's tattoo: it actually shows a glorious rather than terrifying moment.

Math: How Many Tribbles Were Onboard the Enterprise?

In the classic Star Trek episode "The Trouble with Tribbles," the Enterprise and a space station become infested with adorable, trilling balls of fluff called tribbles. Tribbles are cute, so you may be inclined to keep one as a pet. But be warned: tribbles reproduce rapidly, so they will soon eat all of your food.

(Video Link)

In this scene from that episode, Spock says that there are 1,771,561 tribbles onboard the Enterprise. How does he come up with that figure? Kyle Hill, a science journalist, derived Spock's mathematical calculations.

Hill sketched the above figures and wrote:

Above, I started with what I knew. For P (population) at time 0 (when the tribbles first came aboard), there was 1 tribble. Easy enough. We also knew, thanks to Spock, that after 72 hours, P was equal to 1,771,561. Now it gets a little more complicated.

To write a useful equation, what we really want to know is what the population of tribbles will be at any one time. Therefore, I wrote Population=P(t). But we know that tribbles grow exponentially (or we are checking that assumption), so we have to include that information. To find the rate of tribble growth, we take the mathematical derivative of Population=P(t) to get P’(t). Putting those two together we get P’(t)=kP(t). (This equation says that the rate of growth is equal to some constant k times the population at some time. pops out of the normal process of taking the derivative of a function.)

The episode ended with Scotty beaming the surviving tribbles onto a nearby Klingon warship. Hill anticipates catastrophic results:

There was serious tribble trouble at 72 hours. At around 100 hours of growth, there would be a tribble occupying every cubic inch of volume on the Enterprise. Kirk and his crew would drown in pregnant, fuzzy aliens. And because the growth is exponential, it would get much worse very quickly. Less than 8 hours later, our equation tells us that Spock and Kirk would have to deal with a thousand times more tribbles — well over two billion. That’s enough to fill 1,200 Borg Cubes completely. Conclusions like that are worth all the math.

Left unchecked, the tribble birth rate equation shows an unstoppable expansion of exponential growth towards domination. That’s something the Klingons know all too well.

Godzilla is the most destructive dinosaur-like creature to ever stomp his way across the silver screen, and he doesn’t seem to care who he steps on as he tap dances across cityscapes full of helpless humans. Sounds like the makings of a great musical, doesn’t it?!

Cinefix is bringing a new kind of monster to the musical stage with Godzilla: The Musical, a lovingly crafted tale starring singing scientists, an intrepid news reporter and the king of the kaiju himself, Godzilla!

Can the Broadway stage support the weight of this heavy musical theatre mashup?

Fashion Designs Inspired By Hellboy, Back To The Future And More

Geeky fashion designs are all the rage, and even though there seems to be no shortage of new pop culture inspired fashion lines coming out few of them truly seem to understand the whole idea of an effective style crossover.

This new series of geeky couture designs by Sara Richard called HautePopC clearly demonstrates the power of an effective crossover, with the overall design of each character, including accessories and signature wardrobe, fully incorporated into each fashion design.

Doc Brown and Marty have never looked more ready for a time traveler's ball, but I'm not sure Abe Sapien would be okay with showing so much skin!
