These Guys Are Really Bad At Being Batman

Con cosplayers usually try their best to make their costumes at least presentable, if not amazingly detailed and mind-blowingly realistic, but some cosplayers walk a much more crooked road with their costumes:

These cosplayers, or Halloweenies or simply "creepy guys in masks", aren't trying to capture the likeness, attitude and heroic stature of their costume's inspiration, they're just sporting the cape and cowl for the fun of it, and giving poor Bats a bad reputation at the same time:

Bad Batman cosplayers are becoming harder to find on the Con floors, so when you spot a schlubby guy sporting a bad rendition of the Dark Knight's batsuit make sure you snap a pic, to remind the world what not to do when playing the role of Batman!

Adam Savage's 'Alien' Spacesuit Lets Him Go Incognito At Comic-Con

Cosplayers put a lot of time, energy and skilled effort into constructing their costumes, often spending weeks if not months putting their outfit together, building accessories and getting the overall look just right before hitting the Comic-Con floor.

However, one very famous geek named Adam Savage went above and beyond when he constructed his Alien themed spacesuit for Comic-Con, a classic costume ten years in the making.

Clearly Adam didn’t spend ten whole years making the suit, and the last decade has been a rather busy part of his life, but his incredible patience finally paid off when Mr. Savage became Adam Incognito on the Con floor:

(Video Link)

Here’s why Adam chose this particular sci-fi spacesuit as a decade long cosplay project:

"The Alien spacesuit, which was designed by Moebius, is one of my favorite spacesuit designs ever, and I'm a spacesuit fanatic," Savage revealed. "I've got a bunch of replicas of real ones and fake ones. I've been working on this this particular suit over the last 10 years. It's the final culmination of a decade of obsession — it was worth every minute of labor put into it to see the responses from all the cosplayers out on the floor."

I must admit I had no idea that Adam Savage was in the suit when I passed him on the Con floor, and his costume was so well made and intricately detailed that it looked just as good up close as it does in photos, as you would expect from something built by that talented buster of myths.

Ninja Warrior Phenom Tackles Assassin's Creed Experience At SDCC

People were lining up under the hot California sun all weekend long just to take a crack at Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Experience obstacle course, but something tells me nobody tackled the course quite like Kacy Catanzaro.

She recently became the first woman to beat the brutal American Ninja Warrior course, so this incredible athlete couldn't help but make this fun Assassin’s Creed themed course outside San Diego Comic-Con look like a walk in the park:

If these obstacle courses are any indication Kacy is physically well prepared for the life of an assassin, and maybe she can change Ubisoft's mind about having a female assassin in the series.

Wholock: The Musical

(YouTube link)

If you were going to mashup Doctor Who and Sherlock, you may as well make it a musical. It would have to start with a little number about one-upmanship before they can join forces. After all, neither one wants to be the sidekick! The lyrics are at the YouTube page. -via Viral Viral Videos

Can You Spare Some Rupees For A New Shield?

Link was spotted outside San Diego Comic-Con 2014 playing some sweet melodies on his ocarina, but he wasn’t looking for a badge or a recording contract- he was trying to gather enough rupees to buy a new shield.

His playing has improved quite a bit over the years, but you'd think a hero of his caliber would have enough rupees in his coffer to afford a spare shield!

I sincerely hope he wasn't living out of that cardboard box during his visit, because there were hungry zombies lurking around downtown San Diego during Comic-Con, and Link doesn't look like he's ready for a fight...

Pie Man to the Rescue: 13-plus One-off TV Superheroes

It’s difficult to design a superhero that can sustain a series of comic books or his/her own TV show. But when they’re a guest star, any superhero can be interesting. The weirdest, dumbest, most obscure superpower will do for just one appearance. And TV shows have taken advantage of that tim sand time again. Do you remember Turkey Volume Guessing Man from MST3K?

Some heroes are born from tragedy, some are born from freak accidents, and some are born from watching a phenomenally stupid movie. In season eight of Mystery Science Theater 3000, the liberal use of “turkey” (twice) as an insult in the film Riding With Death led Crow T. Robot to realize his true potential as “Turkey Volume Guessing Man.” His power is the ability to take any given space and translate it to a poultry-based measurement system, guessing how many turkeys it would take to fill the room. It’s an ability he readily admits is completely useless in real life and that isolates him from the world at large, “although women are drawn to me, for my powers are fascinating.”

There are a lot more stories just as strange, from shows ranging from L.A. Law to The Simpsons in this list from the A.V. Club.

Darth Vader Wood Stove

He is more machine than man now. Twisted, welded, and evil. This is Darth Vader, an outdoor wood stove built by Instructables member doddieszoomer. He made it from an old gas steel bottle. He used an angle grinder to shape the helmet accents. Doddieszoomer then finished the project with spray paint for the rich black Vader look.

Star Wars Episode VII Jitters Song

(YouTube link)

In this little ditty from Adult Swim, a lonely geek contemplates Star Wars VII. What if it’s awful? So many things could go wrong! That’s what we call “managing expectations,” or “not getting our hopes up.” As with most of the big blockbuster movies these days, the anticipation is more enjoyable than the payoff. -via Geeks Are Sexy

Rocket Raccoon at Comic Con

One of Dorkly’s People You See at Every Nerd Convention we posted just yesterday was a “Furry who refuses to admit they’re being furry,” with a cosplayer insisting he’s Rocket Raccoon. You can’t win at that game, unless you have something no one else has …like honestly being less than three feet tall!

Instagram member tyndalecode found a Rocket Raccoon that’s the perfect size at Comic Con!

And he's ready to party! -via The Mary Sue

Superheroes in the Shower

(Image: Dragonarte)

"Bruce, you stink. You really need to shower."

"I'm not Bruce. I'm The Batman."

"Yes, we know. But you can take off the Batsuit every now and then. And now would be a good time. Because you're starting to smell pretty bad."

"I can't take off the suit. I am The Batman. The suit and cowl are who I am."

"Yes, we know that. And perhaps wild bats smell a bit. But superheroes who want to stay in the Hall of Justice need to smell fresh."

"But I--"

"Dousing yourself with Axe body spray isn't enough!"

The Walking Dead Season 5 Preview

(YouTube link)

As happens every year at Comic Con, the first full-length preview of the new season of The Walking Dead was unveiled. Although we still have to wait until October to see Rick, Daryl, Michonne, and the zombies again, we can glean a few plot points to hang onto until then. -via Uproxx

Six-Year-Old Tries To Name Super Smash Bros. Characters, Fails Adorably

Tumblr user Lorenzo was trying to be an awesome big brother when he introduced his six-year-old little sister to the classic video game characters that star in the Super Smash Bros. video game franchise, and then he asked her if she remembered their names.

She got some of the names right, and came close with others like Pakistan (Pac-Man) and Bowler (Bowser), but the ones she tried to make up on the spot are pretty adorable.

To be fair, most of the characters in the game are from well before her time, and she probably hasn't been playing video games for long, but her imaginative new names might be just what these characters need to revitalize their image.

Tapio Mömmö's Unique Take On Superhuman Powers

Finnish artist Tapio Mömmö has a unique vision of what it means to be superhuman, and his characters derive their utilitarian superpowers from the machines that have fused with their bodies.

Through his digital artworks the phrase keeping a cool head takes on a new meaning, and to say that a guy with a boat for a head takes to water like a duck is an understatement.

His characters are heroically tragic, world weary and dressed like average folks, but their mechanical additions make them true survivors, able to overcome whatever obstacles life throws at them.

Punisher Versus Red Hood In Super Power Beat Down

Marvel’s ultimate vigilante The Punisher and DC’s sidekick turned street crusader Red Hood have a lot in common besides their one-man war on crime- they both have a wicked sense of style, they both use guns because they don’t have superpowers, and they're the baddest anti-heroes in their respective comic book universes.

(Video Link)

MachinimaPrime and Bat in the Sun teamed up to bring the battle of the badass vigilantes to life in episode 12 of their Super Power Beat Down web series, which starts with a WonderCon poll to see who fans think will win and ends up really bleak for one of these bad boys.
