Batman Hits the Beach

(Photo: unknown)

Batman is not a disguise that Bruce Wayne wears. Bruce Wayne is a disguise that Batman wears.

He's never truly out of uniform. But when it's really hot, Batman's suit must be lighter and cooler than kevlar. A bit of sunscreen and a few hours on the beach are all the Light Knight needs.

30 Fantastic Sci-Fi Themed T-Shirts For The Budding Time Traveler

Time travelers come in all shapes and sizes, and from many different walks of life.

Sometimes they're doctors, or scientists, or intrepid adventurers, and sometimes they're just ordinary people brought along on a journey through space and time.

Time Traveler by Naolito

Here's a collection of time travel inspired t-shirts from The NeatoShop, to celebrate the return of our favorite lord of time, and our love of great sci-fi shows and movies!

First off let's discuss what a time traveler is made of- they're a pretty unique bunch:

Anatomy of a Time Traveller by ZombieMedia

They have to be brave, and adventurous, and sometimes foolhardy:

How I Learned To Love The Time Machine by JCMaziu

It also helps if they're easy going, because a time traveler must able to go with the flow:

Some people dream of traveling through time from the day they're born, and they spend their youth playing a different kind of doctor:

But unless you're born to travel through time, or happen to be a mechanical genius with a firm grasp of quantum physics, the first step to actually jumping into the timestream is to get your hands on a time machine.

Some people are lucky enough to have a time machine show up on their doorstep:

However, time machines don't always come built and ready to go, sometimes you gotta get in there and build it yourself:

The Most Expensive Movie Props Ever Sold

Movie props demand big bucks at auction, especially if they’re iconic props from equally iconic films, and those who choose to collect movie memorabilia and props are used to paying a hefty price for each piece.

Because of the cost of collecting, and storing or displaying, movie props they're put up for auction from private sellers all the time, and some really amazing stuff inevitably makes its way onto Ebay.

Joe MacFarland from Ebay Stories shared an infographic that reveals the most expensive movie props ever sold, many of which were featured on Ebay.

It's no surprise that props like Dorothy's Ruby Slippers, Marilyn Monroe's dress from The Seven Year Itch and the Delorean from Back To The Future have sold for a more than modest sum, but I was surprised to see Wilson the volleyball from Castaway sold for forty grand!

Anybody got a volleyball and some paint?!

Time For You To Play The Weirdest Game Ever: Feed the Head

image Via Cartoon Brew

Not even sure I can legally call this a game. It may be closer to an interactive vector art gallery than an actual game. But the interaction is what sets it apart from being a non-active display of eccentric art work. This is art work you manipulate by clicking various things and, well, feeding the head. It is exactly as odd as it sounds, but in the same breath, it is divinely unique and there is something oddly addictive to it. Just some simple point and clicks, but after a few (there are 27 steps to complete it for those interested), you just want to keep going.

From the art style to the fact that is seems to evolve the more you play it and acclimate yourself with it, spend five minutes with it today. You will find it to be a nice distraction from your usual day-to-day activities.

Automata Trailer Looks Like Breathtaking Sci-Fi at its Finest

In an internet full of movie trailers, it takes a very special kind of movie to stand out. While the idea behind the Automata seems recycled (that is wordplay because we are talking about robots), it wont take long for you to realize that this movie seems to be doing something most sci-fi doesn't get right. A mix between the fantastic and the believable. Granted, some may think it is just another "I-Robot" type of movie, there seems to be a lot more here than just shiny action going on here. It looks like Automata is, essentially, science fiction done right.

Yes, it seems the typical "we build smart robots to help us only to have them evolve beyond what we expected" storyline, but its visual look (think classic Ridley Scott) mixed with the old-school design of the robots has got my interest piqued about this one.

While it may not have Nic Cage in it (< sarcasm font), it still looks like a science fiction film geeks may want to keep their eyes peeled for. Set to be released in October, expect to be hearing more about this movie the closer we get to its release date.

Ten Amazing Inventions By Teens

teens for neats

Image Via

Sometimes, we underestimate kids. We see them as kind of useless (sorry kids), as if children just want to play games and have fun and be silly. At least that is primarily how they come across sometimes, and that is perfectly fine. That is part of the joys of being a child. But what about the kids who are changing the world? What about the kids who are showing us that not all kids want to sit back and be silly? Some kids realize there are issues in this world that need addressing and are doing all the can to change those things. Students like Kylie Simonds, who was diagnosed with cancer but was always being tripped up by her I.V bag. So what did she do? She invented an pediatric I.V backpack which would ease the burden for children with the disease. Thing is, that is just one out of ten.

Check the list out for yourself here.

So the next time you see a group of kids and naturally assume they are just playing around, stop and take a moment to realize one of those kids may just have the intellect, passion, and drive to change and better the world.

Classic Websites That Somehow Still Exist

Remember the good old days of the internet, when AOL sent us new coasters every week, Google was still a force for good, and many websites sported that cheesy Geocities style?

The late 90s and early 00s really weren't that long ago in the grand scheme of things. In fact, it was such a short time ago in terms of webpage lifespans that many of these sites are still up and running, in all their early internet glory.

Missing those simpler days of dial-up romance, chat rooms and email love letters? Then you'll appreciate the fact that the You've Got Mail website is still up and running, even though it doesn't appear to have been updated since 1998:

Longing to revisit your favorite dinosaur movie sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park? Visit a website from 1997 that is somehow still up and running, a magical site that transports you to the InGen website via the Intranet:

Frank Frazetta's The Legend of Zelda

Having rescued the princess, Link stands atop a pile of his enemies. Jeremiah Lambert composed this image inspired by a famous (and somewhat risque) painting of Conan by the great fantasy artist Frank Frazetta. It was his contribution to Art Jams, an online community of artists inspired by pop culture.

Attack On Titan Theme Works With Any Opening Credits

Attack on Titan is an anime series with a pretty unique storyline which is introduced by a totally rockin', yet somewhat generic sounding, theme song.

However, if you're using the theme song for a mashup generic is good, generic means the song will work with all kinds of shows, from zombie shows to prison shows to American cartoon shows.

(Video Link)

CountDownToDisaster created a mashup video that shows how well the Attack On Titan theme song works as an intro no matter what the show's genre, but they left one very important genre unrepresented-sitcoms.

Imagine how amazing Perfect Strangers would have looked with this rockin' theme song playing in the background, or a Family Matters intro-Titan style, with Urkel standing there looking all heroic in his highwater pants and suspenders... (Barely NSFW due to language)

Anime Recommendations and Open Thread

(The Good, The Bad, and The Vicious t-shirt now on sale at the NeatoShop)

In February and again in June, I made anime watching recommendations and asked for them from Neatorama readers. We had great chats about anime. So let's do it again, shall we?

I learned about Knights of Sidonia from Richard Eisenbeis, Kotaku's anime critic. He calls it "a mecha anime with a realistic twist." Knights of Sidonia, which is remiscent of Battlestar Galactica, is the story of the remnant of the human race struggling to survive in an inter-generational war against genocidal aliens. It is a superb series that demonstrates thoughtful and thorough worldbuilding. Some of these elements are truly original--not rehashes of common tropes. In any science fiction series, that is a tremendous advantage.

In real history, Japan National Railways--the government agency which operated that nation's rail network--was privatized in 1987. In the series Rail Wars, this event never took place and the JNR is still in operation. The series, which you can watch on Crunchyroll, shows the adventures of four young high school trainees who are trying to secure permanent positions.

Now the story of people trying to get jobs at a government bureaucracy might not sound exciting, but it is when it's a quasi-military organization beset with terrorist attacks and conspiracies. Even if you're not a railroading junkie, you'll be impressed by the complexities of modern railroading that the characters find so fascinating.

This Japanese Music Video Will Give Your Eyes A Workout

Are you tired of living life headache free, with perfect eyesight and a firm grasp on reality?

Then you need to hammer some brightly colored polygons into your head by watching this virtually psychotropic music video by Yasuyuki Yoshida and umio entitled [BRDG019] HiDM2_9.

It’s like watching 3D modeling software invade your computer via LSD virus, and the techno-tastic song by BRDG is perfectly complemented by the ever changing, eye-popping visuals.

So grab some aspirin, turn the speakers up to max, and enjoy this visual assault...if your head can handle it!

Spielberg Remaking Minority Report for TV

minors

Image Via

What is up with reboots? We can understand wanting to make the most out of an intellectual property, but what happened to original ideas? Sorry, getting a bit ahead of myself. Seems some recent news has leaked that Steven Spielberg will be rebooting his Minority Report movie into a TV show. As stated on Pajiba:

"Steven Spielberg is developing a TV series based on his 2002 hit sci-fi movie “Minority Report” that will be written by “Godzilla” scribe Max Borenstein and produced by Amblin Television, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap."

For those who may have missed the Tom Cruise flick, Minority Report is about a "pre-crime" unit who can assess the likelihood of someone committing a crime and can stop it. There is fine print, though, as there is with all good science fiction. This procedure in which they find future crimes seems to hint that our protagonist is going to commit a future crime, and he ends up having to go on the run and figure the whole mess out before he, himself, is taken out.

Keep in mind, that is just the movie (and book) version. Details on how the show will play out are still very vague except for the fact that we know Spielberg is on-board in some manner.  Though TV needs more original ideas and concepts, we will be curious to see how this show plays out. More details as they emerge.

Upcoming Documentary Chronicles The Death Of Superman Lives

There was once going to be a movie called Superman Lives, directed by Tim Burton with a script written by Kevin Smith and featuring Nic Cage as Superman.

This crazy little movie might have turned out to be quite the sci-fi spectacle, a dark tale that would feature the death of Superman at the hands of Doomsday, but between unending script conflicts and budget cuts the film was left to die.

(Video Link)

The Death of Superman Lives is a documentary produced by Jon Schnepp that tells the tale of this doomed superhero flick, with all the production team drama, amazing props and concept art, and Nic Cage in the Superman suit looking like a slightly crazed version of the beloved hero.

He Caught All 719 Pokémon

Gotta catch ‘em all! Matthew Sullivan did just that: he caught all 719 Pokémon, a project that started in his childhood and became an obsession as he got closer to his goal. He tells us how he did it, although only another gamer would understand.

Now I will say I love breeding pokémon and never shy away from breeding pokémon for other people — I'm doing that as you read this article - but collecting and hatching around 300 eggs can wear you down. Then the thought of evolving half of them was equally daunting but slowly, overtime, I got it done. With 820 minutes on the clock I had obtained all but a few pokémon. I was so close I could taste it and it was sweet!

Sullivan’s goal took almost two decades, and six generations of Pokémon. If you know something about Pokémon, you can read his story at Polygon.
