How One Little Addition Can Change The Entire Meaning Of A Photo

Ever since Photoshop came to town photos have become much less believable overall, because anybody can now erase, shape, edit, airbrush, color correct, clone stamp, warp, filter, soften via blur and add to any and all photos whenever they want.

Addition via Photoshop can be a powerful tool, and one little addition is all it takes to entirely change the meaning of a photograph.

1. Make 'Em Smile!-

Sharks already have a pretty toothy grin, but whether they're happy or not their smile looks like the stuff of nightmares. Thankfully Photoshop can help soften their image:

With one little addition great white sharks go from Jaws to jokesters, always ready to make 'em laugh with a one-liner about porpoises:

That old tooth addition trick works well with amphibians too:

2. Add A Hand, Change The Movie-

According to the movie, Rocky had no love for the trash talkin' Clubber Lang, but imagine how different that trilogy could have been if Rocky fought opponents in the ring, then had to fight for their hearts after the bout.

All it takes is one hand to change Rocky III from a sports flick to a tender romance:

3. There Will Be Blood-

When kids play in the mud it looks like a total disaster, but not the type of disaster where young lives are in danger. Enter your friendly neighborhood Photoshops and this messy, muddy playtime turns into a total bloodbath!:

Gingerbread Enterprise

Look at the detail on this model USS Enterprise made of gingerbread! It’s mounted on a tractor beam made of candy canes hovering over a rocky terrain of cookies and mints. The starship was made by, and on display at, Blackmarket Bakery in California. See it from all angles in an imgur gallery of enlargeable pictures. Set phasers to yum! -via Boing Boing

If this meets up with the gingerbread Borg cube, things could get interesting.

Batman Hobo Nickel

A "hobo nickel" is a nickel that has been inscribed with appealing images. During the Great Depression, poor people sometimes made them to sell, which is how the folk art form got its name.

Shaun Hughes is an artist who makes hobo nickels professionally. We've previously featured some of his pop culture nickels, which include Spider-Man and stormtroopers. For this nickel, Hughes changed the Indian head on a Buffalo nickel to Batman.

Gingerbread Borg Cube

Resistance is futile. You will be decorated. We will add your gastronomical and decorative distinctiveness to our own. Jenn Fujikawa of Nerdist will contribute to the Borg conquest of all life with this cookie assembly made of gingerbread. She used a square cookie cutter with Borg designs to make the 6 sides, then glued them together. There's a hoop on the top, so I'd guess that she plans to use it as a Christmas tree ornament.

An Age Analysis For Disney's Beast

Most animated features are created with the assumption that the young viewers watching the film won’t actually look for truths, check the math, or otherwise deconstruct the facts presented in the movie looking for absolutes. The creators know there will be incongruities in every film but don’t bother fixing it when the viewers don’t really seem to care.

But an artist named Xibira proved she cares enough to do the math behind a little Disney film called Beauty and the Beast, and the results are shocking.

25 Facts About The Simpsons Celebrating Their 25th Anniversary

(Image Link)

If you’ve been watching The Simpsons from the very beginning then you know they’ve come a long way from their early days, when they were fresh from The Tracey Ullman Show and lookin’ strange, but can you believe they just celebrated their 25th anniversary?

December 17, 1989 was the day an animated TV legend was born- The Simpsons are now officially the longest running scripted prime time series on television, and creator Matt Groening's life is hell no longer.

(Image Link)

The Simpsons are named after Matt's family members, namely his father Homer, his mother Margaret (who was a Wiggum before she became a Groening), and sisters Lisa and Margaret (Maggie), but decided the character based on young Matt should be named Bart. Matt probably didn't want to be associated with Bart's bad deeds, especially if his family tuned in to the show!

(YouTube link)

You bet I snagged this video for you as soon as I saw who did it. CGP Grey takes an entire library of Tolkien writings about Middle-Earth and explains that universe in four minutes, or at least where the different types of characters come from. All this happened in that universe long before the rings appeared, which also happened before the events of The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings trilogy, so Grey plans to tackle that part in an upcoming video. There’s a discussion thread about the video here. -via Viral Viral Videos

Every Episode of Every Star Trek Series Ever, Ranked

If you’ve ever said you read Playboy for the articles, this would be the article to read. Jordan Hoffman took on the monumental task of ranking 695 Star Trek episodes -from The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and The Animated Series. The introduction implies that he may not have done it alone.

I've been a rabid fan of the franchise since childhood and I've got the wedgie scars to prove it. While still maintaining a semi-functional adult life I pen the One Trek Mind column at StarTrek.com and host panels at Star Trek conventions. So when I present you with this complete ranking of every single Star Trek episode ever, it's not like we just shot photon torpedoes at the wall.

The first thing you’ll want to do is skip to the last page and check out the top ten. Then you’ll want to skim over and see where your favorite episodes rank. Then you may want to argue about it. The list can come in handy as a guide in deciding what to show a Star Trek newbie so they get the best out of their initial experience. And it’s not just a list -for each episode there is a brief explanation of its ranking. If you’re a serious fan, you can kiss your day goodbye, unless you work somewhere where Playboy is blocked. The list starts here. -via Digg

The Office: Middle-Earth Edition

After saving Middle-Earth, Bilbo Baggins humbly turned aside the great treasures and honors offered to him. Instead, he went to work at a paper company. Gollum is his co-worker with serious hygiene problems. Gandalf is the general manager or, as he puts it, the "Lord of the Reams." He's a walking, talking, sexual harassment lawsuit.

Martin Freeman, the actor who plays Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, hosted Saturday Night Live last night. He was inevitably typecast in one of his most famous roles. This tme, though, he took Bilbo to The Office.
