Walker Stalker Con Cosplay Winners

Guess which one of these Walking Dead characters is actually from the show!

Only one of these guys is from the show, too.

The Walker Stalker Con was held in San Francisco over the past weekend. It’s mostly for fans of The Walking Dead, but all fans of zombies, horror, and sci-fi were welcome. You can check out the various events, attendees, and celebrity appearances at the con’s Twitter feed. What really impressed me was the winners of the cosplay performance competition. The cosplay group Reel Guise recreated the final scene of the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead. I put the pictures on the next page, as they contain massive spoilers for those who aren’t current with the series. However, those who are current will believe one is a screenshot from the show.

Car Smashing Bonus Stage From Street Fighter In Real Life

Remember smashing up cars in between smashing opponents in the classic arcade brawlers Street Fighter II and beyond?

(YouTube Link)

In real life it doesn't make sense for a fighter to risk their career by beating up on an old car and possibly breaking their hands and feet, but the premise does make for really fun to watch auto destruction videos.

(YouTube Link)

These real world tough guys don’t believe in car insurance, and their smashing videos demonstrate how hard it is to actually take a car apart with your bare hands. If they survive the bonus round they can look forward to enough bonus points medical bills to last a lifetime!

35 Fun Cosplay Pictures From the 2015 Portland Wizard Con

The Portland Wizard Con may not be as big as Comic Con or even their Anaheim incarnation -Wonder Con. Even so, there was tons of great cosplay at the convention -giving Zeon and myself a great excuse to take a work vacation up to the Rose City. Here's some of the best cosplay we spotted throughout the weekend.

One of the best events of the whole weekend was the children's cosplay contest. There we were treated with cuties ranging from Sally and Oogie Boogie to...

head strong Harley Quinn. The contest was great because it was sponsored by anti-bullying charity The Stewart-Beavers Institute.

Not that anyone would ever dare to bully Rocket Raccoon.

The kid's contest was packed with cuteness, so it really would have been impossible to pick a best costume.

So it wasn't all too surprising when the judges announced that everyone was a winner and could collect a prize.

I mean really, would you want to be the one to announce to tiny Rick and Daryl that they were any more or less awesome than balloon boy?

The Simpsons in Pixel Art

(YouTube link)

Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon designed an opening sequence for The Simpsons that puts Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie into a retro video game world. All the basic elements are there, plus a trippy long scroll sequence and the appropriate chiptune music with video game accents by Jeremy Dower. It's billed as a "tribute" to The Simpsons, but Fox should snap this up for a real couch gag, don’t you think?  -via Viral Viral Videos

New Jurassic World Trailer

(YouTube link)

In case you were busy watching the Shrek marathon or The Walking Dead and missed the Super Bowl, you also missed a new trailer for Jurassic World. In it, we find that Chris Pratt is training velociraptors! Sure, that’s probably for some show for the tourists, but when it all hits the fan, he has a loyal army of “good” dinosaurs to help him fight the “bad” dinosaurs, which are led by the genetically-modified Indominus rex. You could say that scenario is a little far-fetched, but we’re already talking about a theme park of cloned dinosaurs. -via Uproxx

Visual Guide to Marvel Movie Rights

Marvel Comics has been selling the rights to make films based on their material since the 1990s. Thus, the rights to involve certain Marvel characters in screenplays are restricted according to which studio owns them. The creation of Marvel Films in 1993 (now known as Marvel Studios) allowed for Marvel to do a reaquisition in some cases.

The issue seems complicated, but The Geek Twins simplified things with their graphic that explains which studio owns what. What crossovers can take place, allowing for who to fight whom?

Visit this page to see their graphic in three sizes, read a listing of studio rights, see The Geek Twins' references for their undertaking as well as to view other graphics they've created.

Indominus Rex

The upcoming movie Jurassic Word has a theme park website, featuring a map, park features, and a link to the company behind its creation. Some of the pages are disabled, or rather marked as “coming soon” because the park isn’t yet open, but you can follow the countdown of the days until it is. They do have pages on the dinosaurs, including the new genetically-modified monster they call Indominus rex. It’s forty feet long and has a scream that can reach 160 decibels.

We set out to make Indominus the most fearsome dinosaur ever to be displayed at Jurassic World. The genetic engineers at our Hammond Creation Lab have more than delivered.

At first glance, Indominus most closely resembles a T. Rex. But its distinctive head ornamentation and ultra-tough bony osteoderms can be traced from theropods known as Abeliosaurs. Indominus’ horns have been placed above the eye orbit through genetic material hybridized from Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops and Gigantosaurus. Fearsome indeed.

The conceit here is that real dinosaurs that we know about aren’t scary enough, so they had to create one even more dangerous. From the silhouette icon, it appears that I. rex has an advantage over T. rex in that its arms are long enough to reach out and grab a movie star. And its teeth, while capable of tearing a movie star to shreds, do not meet properly. Whether that’s a glitch in the genetic modification technique or not, it could well make the creature angry enough to lash out at its creators. Jurassic World is due in theaters in June. -via Gamma Squad

Ten Lesser Known Tools Used By Ninjas

(Image Link)

The ninja has become such an archetypal figure in the world of pop culture that ninjafans assume they know all there is to know about the shadowy assassins in black because they've seen all the movies and read all the books.

However, most of those books and movies leave out all the real cool ways ninjas used elements in their surroundings to their advantage, and the nifty little gadgets that aided them in their stealthy pursuits.

(Image Link)

Need to cross a moat or pond in a hurry? Historians believe ninjas strapped pontoon like devices to their feet called Mizu Gumo (Water Spider), which folded up nicely and helped aid in their escape.

Shuriken are cool and katanas slice real nice, but there’s nothing like silently delivering a dose of poison via hairpin, or scratching your way to victory with the Neko-Te (cat’s paw) weapon used primarily by the kunoichi (female ninja).

Cartoons Paused At Just The Right Moment Makes Them Seem Oh So Wrong

Have you ever sat around pausing movies or television shows hoping to land on just the right moment so you can have a good laugh at the out-of-context hilarity on the screen?

That’s the comedic power of the pause in action, and no matter the format those paused moments make the show look just plain wrong!

The Soup has put together a collection of screenshots that make innocent cartoons look like total smut, and they've come up with a rather catchy name for these pausal peccadilloes- Bad Pause.

Take a gander at their collection Bad Pause: Cartoon Edition, but only if you're ready to laugh at how easy it is to totally ruin your favorite cartoon shows from childhood with a perfect pause!

Some Like It Dark

Spanish artist Marta de Andrés offers this contribution from an art show in Valencia. She writes, "The subject of this festival was Women, the strength of women and equality between men and women." Her response was to imagine the desired Marilyn Monroe as the feared Darth Vader.

The Evolution of Video Games

(YouTube link)

A guy walks through the history of video games, from Pong to Grand Theft Auto. I almost didn't recognize Pong because the original graphic display wouldn't work here at all; it's been somewhat modernized. Sometimes the guy has to win a round before he can proceed. Of course, since this is a three-minute video, you won’t see all of your favorite video games, just several insanely popular games as a representative sample of the past five decades. -via Geeks Are Sexy

The Star Wars Relativity Realization

The most predictable thing in the universe is still clouded by human perception. The biggest days of the year for a child become mundane occurrences when you are an adult. How many years did you wonder if you’d still be alive when the 21st century arrived?

My kids consider all the Star Wars movies to be ancient. They had seen the earlier movies by the time Revenge of the Sith came out in 2005, but I thought they were still too young to see that one in a theater. When they finally watched it, it was already an “old movie” in their eyes. This Star Wars tipping point is brought to you by Randall Munroe of xkcd.

The Wonderful World Of Wonder Woman Cosplay

Wonder Woman is one of the most enduring characters in comic book history, and even though she doesn't look like she has aged a day she has lived many different lives, and worn many different costumes, in the last 74 years.

Here's a collection of 30 different incarnations of Wonder Woman, most of which were actually inspired by looks seen in the pages of Wonder Woman comic books.

1. Little Wonder Girl-

Wonder Woman is an inspiration to people of all ages, but nobody idolizes the Amazonian warrior princess more than young girls. This heroic little Wonder Girl looks like she's ready to battle any bullies who threaten freedom on the playground.

2. Wonder Woman in Fancy Ball Gown-

When Diana Prince gets dressed up for a superhero's ball she likes to keep her look formal and fancy, and this unknown cosplayer perfectly captures that Wonder-fully fancy ball gown look in her mighty poofy dress.

3. Rockabilly Wonder Woman-

This rockin' good Rockabilly Wonder Woman costume is part of a retro inspired group costume created by cast members from The Home of Happiness Rocky Horror Picture Show Shadowcast for New York Comic Con in 2013.

You can see the rest of their ensemble here, and while the Rockabilly Batman costume is definitely inspired by Denis Medri's drawings, the rest of the group came up with their own original creations.

4. Atomic Wonder Woman-

Who needs a sword when you've got a chainsaw spear?! Cosplayer Meagan Marie created this extremely cool costume based on the post apocalyptic Atomic Wonder Woman character that appears in the game Infinite Crisis.
