Being An Artist Is A Lot Like Playing Skyrim

Many artists live a unique lifestyle that their 9 to 5 friends don't comprehend, and as a result creatives can sometimes feel like lone Dovahkiin, out of sync with the "normal" world and constantly seeking new artistic adventures.

You gain experience about the world the hard way, trying to earn some coin with the point of your sword (in this case a pen) and stay on the good side of humanity when lazy townies are constantly trying to get you to work for free.

The life of a creative is full of highs and lows, years of eating mammoth steaks and Colovian brandy and years of living lean and hungry, when you’d practically kill to eat at a sit-down restaurant.

Dorkly’s Julia Lepetit and Andrew Bridgman use pretty pictures to reveal how the life of a creative is a lot like playing a game of Skyrim. Now how do I develop my own Dragon Shout?

Some Of The Most Bizarre Demands Made By Celebrities

Anyone who has ever worked with entertainment industry talent knows they can be a mighty demanding bunch who often use their celebrity status to get what they want, no matter how bizarre.

Sometimes their request is as simple as top billing, or a reworking of the script so their character gets more screentime, but other celebs aren’t so easily impressed. They demand stuff, really strange stuff, or they're liable to come down with a case of Scriptatosis, rendering them unable to effectively read their lines.

Touring performers generally have a document known as a backstage rider doing all their demanding for them, which lets the concert promoters know what they expect to find backstage before a show.

If you’re Marilyn Manson you simply want an assortment of sweets, but review Lady Gaga’s rider and you’ll find this strange request:

Not sure if the mannequin was for her show or something to make the House of Gaga feel more like a home...

A Visual Effects Breakdown For Captain America: Winter Soldier

The filmmakers creating modern Marvel movies are able to take full advantage of the cutting edge CGI software available today, and those digital effects help make stories about superheroes look far more believable on the big screen.

But a digital artist’s job isn't just to make the effects believable- it's to make the VFX so believable, and so seamlessly integrated into the film, that viewers can’t tell what’s real and what’s CGI.

Here’s a marvel-ous breakdown video that reveals the digital artistry added to Captain America: Winter Soldier by Beijing-based VFX studio BaseFX.

It's interesting to see how much of our favorite films are shot in a total green screen environment nowadays, and even simple stunts are nothing but a pile of polygons nowadays.

Spider-Man Knocks Himself Out To Entertain Kids

Performing as a costumed character at birthday parties can be a tough gig, and when you show up dressed as a superhero you’d better be prepared to wow the kiddos with some sweet superhero moves.

But when you’re performing for peanuts you should avoid bodily injury at all costs, because most companies who hire out costumed characters don’t have injury insurance for their employees.

A springy fellow in a Spider-Man suit discovered how hard it is to act like a webhead without falling flat on your face as he tried way too hard to keep his young clients entertained. Next year they'll be hiring Batman instead...

What The Avengers Actors Looked Like as Kids

(Image: unknown)

Avengers, assemble! Specifically, assemble in a line by the classroom door. Black Widow is the line leader today. Proceed to the lunchroom to hear an announcement by Principal Fury.

These photos allegedly show what the actors who play the Avengers looked like when they were kids. I suggest that in the next movie in the franchise, the villain reverse-ages the characters so that they are all 6 years old. We need a Marvel version of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Rascals.'

Amazing Movies That Were Never Made

(Video Link)

There are tons of movies out there that make you shake your head and wonder "how did they actually green-light something that stupid?" But sadly, there are also tons of movies that should have been made that just weren't. For example, while John Carter was a great movie, but an animated version that would have predated Snow White as the first full-length feature film could have been even more amazing and may have even changed film history.

Learn about nine other awesome movies that should have been made in this TopTenz article, or just watch the video above.

If Movie Characters Said What Their Actors Have Tweeted

It’s a good thing most characters portrayed by actors in movies don’t act anything like the actors themselves, because if their characters spouted the inane lines celebs like Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin have Tweeted out to the world those hit movies would have bombed!

(YouTube Link)

CollegeHumor presents an animated portrayal of what it would look like if, say, Maximus from Gladiator gave a rally cry that included "Circumcision is stupid! Babies are perfeeeeeeect!"

It kinda makes you wonder what the heck those famous folks were thinking when they sent out such bizarre Tweets, but I think Fast & Furious would have been improved by the addition of Vin, Michelle and Tyrese's Tweets.

Minor Tweaks To Disney Movies That Change The Whole Plot

Disney’s animated features rely on paper thin plots to make the magic happen, and what they lack in believability they more than make up for in character appeal and emotional effect.

But a thin plot means the whole storyline can come crashing down with one minor change, like showing what led up to Bambi’s mother getting blasted.

Dorkly's Andrew Bridgman and illustrator Paul Westover demonstrate how easy it is to turn Disney movies into a completely different kind of movie with one minor tweak.

Kinda takes the feel good fun outta the whole thing, now don’t it?!

The Casebook Of Nips And Porkington

Nips and Porkington are pigs in every sense of the word- they’re cops and one is actually a pig, so he's a pig in two ways. I'm not sure if he's also a slob, but if he is then that makes three ways in which Porkington is a pig.

Okay, so Nips and Porkington are pigs in either one, two or three ways, if that’s not every sense of the word then please excuse my misuse of an idiom and let’s move on.

(Vimeo Link)

Nips and Porkington are the stars of their own animated short called The Casebook Of Nips And Porkington, which was created by an extremely talented individual named Melody Wang.

Hopefully Melody will share some more animated animal adventures with us in the near future, but for now we'll have to make do with this enchanting short.

Halo vs. Call of Duty

We’ve seen plenty of “video game invades real life” videos, but this takes it up a notch with over-the-top violence and destruction, even though it all takes place at Grandma’s house. Contains a little NSFW language. And plenty of subtle references for hardcore players.

It’s from Danny and Michael Philippou, twin brothers from Adelaide, Australia (previously at Neatorama), who do this for fun even though many of the stunts are really dangerous.

The Philippou brothers refuse to put ads on their videos. They’ve now received funding from Screen Australia, Australia's national film support agency. If you liked this, you might want to check out their other videos. -via reddit

Towel Day on the ISS

(YouTube link)

Wherever you go today, don’t forget your towel! Today is Towel Day, a date set aside to remember author Douglas Adams and his works, particularly The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. For the occasion, the astronauts of the European Space Agency (ESA) show how they celebrate on the International Space Station. Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti (previously at Neatorama) reads about the importance of the towel from The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy while floating in space. Don’t panic!

Mario Kart: Fury Road

(Image Link)

When everything goes to hell in the Mushroom Kingdom the denizens of that colorful land will have to kart for survival, or fall to the flying shells.

Mad Max: Fury Road isn’t meant to be a particularly funny film, but add a few visual effects, a few characters and silly sound effects from Mario Kart 64 and you’ve got a wasteland full of laughs.

YouTube user sundbergkr doesn't rely on over-the-top gags or comically misspliced clips to deliver the comedy in Mario Kart: Fury Road, and the end result is a mashup that's simply funny!

Riker: Episode One

What if Commander William Riker got his own spinoff show after Star Trek: The Next Generation? It might go something like this fan edit that puts Number One in the star position. It’s the beginning of what may be a continuing series, with the next episode coming in about a month.

(YouTube link)

Those who occupy a certain strange corner of the internet might recognize this style as the work of Jan van den Hemel, who worked together with fellow video editor Andrew Hussie to make dozens of hilarious The Next Generation edits back in the late 2000s. Riker is the first new TNG video from Hemel in nearly five years, and if you're a fan, you'll be glad to hear that more are on the way.

Atheist Arya Stark Is The New Face Of Fantasy Disenchantment

Arya Stark has been through a lot in her young life, and while some may turn to faith after witnessing their father’s death and watching their family torn asunder by those vying for the Iron Throne, Anya has chosen to put faith in God on her list.

This is all according to the new Game Of Thrones meme Atheist Arya Stark, which was created by Tumblr user halfprincesshalfgoddess, so don’t expect to find much canon material from the show.

What you can expect from this meme is a funny take on what a cocky young Arya might say to those pious Sparrows as she made her way across Westeros, a grand assortment of ha-has for heathens.
