48 Upcoming Comic Book Movies and When to Expect Them

Captain America: Civil War | Image: Marvel

The folks over at Den of Geek have put together a list of 48 upcoming comic book movies as well as other key bits of information about the films that should keep fans in anticipation. For each film, they pose and answer three questions for readers: what's it about, who is involved, and when is it expected to be released. Here are those answers for Captain America: Civil War:

"What’s it about? Here’s a film that Marvel has so much confidence in that it refused to budge when it looked like Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice wanted to nab its date.

In the comics, Civil War is a sprawling crossover arc from 2006, which saw Tony Stark go toe-to-toe with Cap over a government bill aimed at forcing superheroes to register with the powers that be, reveal their identities and essentially become part of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The film? Well, we had a more detailed look at it here. Short version – it looks like Captain America: Civil War will take elements from the books (namely the Cap v Stark show-down and issues with the government), but perhaps steer away from an all-properties-inclusive mammoth crossover. Either way, it’s likely to be a huge turning point for the Marvel cinematic universe.

Who’s involved? Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans will return, and probably a few other familiar Marvel cinematic universe faces. We will also get the Marvel cinematic universe debut of Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman). On the directorial side, Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s dynamite duo – the Russo brothers – will return. On scripting duties are their fellow Winter Soldier alumni Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Interestingly, this is rumoured to be the film where Spider-Man will make his MCU debut. We await confirmation or denial on that, which we will pass on.

When’s it coming out? 29 April 2016 in the UK, 6 May 2016 in the USA

Get the facts on 47 more upcoming movies based on comics at Den of Geek.

Star Trek: 47 Nerdy Things About the Next Generation Films

Besides the ever-popular TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard’s crew also roamed the universe in four movies- Star Trek: Generations (1994), Star Trek: First Contact (1996), Star Trek: Insurrection (1998), and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002). The first movie came out the same year the TV series ended, so the franchise seemed to have just been promoted to the cinema instead of actually ending. Star Trek: Generations actually served to link the series with its predecessor from the ’60s.

1. The first of the Next Generation films was something of a rush job as principal photography on the film with the Next Generation cast started one week after the wrap on the seventh season of Star Trek: The Next Generation itself.

Filming of the scenes with Kirk, Scotty and Chekov took place while the TV show was still shooting. Wrap on the film had to be only a matter of a few weeks later to meet the release date in November of 1994. "All Good Things," the Next Generation finale, aired on the 23rd May.

2. There's an entire opening sequence that was cut from the film depicting Captain Kirk (retired) landing from an orbital skydive in a wheat field where Captain Scott and Commander Chekov are waiting. The Captain then exclaims that he's not going to the Enterprise-B ceremony.... and that's final!

The orbital skydiving, or spacediving suit then later ended up on screen worn by Lieutenant B'elanna Torres in Star Trek: Voyager's "Extreme Risk" after she discovered that the Dominion had wiped out the Marquis in the alpha quadrant. The cut scene is on the Blu-ray and some DVD releases.

That’s just the beginning of a trivia list that covers all four movies at Den of Geek. And the fandom lives on. However, if you have not seen the movies and plan to, there are spoilers.

TARDIS Cake: What Could Go Wrong?

Doctor Who fans might know this artwork that places the TARDIS into Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. A lovely image! That would look good on a cake, wouldn’t it?

Maybe it would, but behold the decorator’s actual interpretation of the image. This cake is part of a roundup at Cake Wrecks called When Photo Cakes Go Wrong that will put you off ever trying to use a photograph on a cake.

Sausage Party Presents: Jurassic World

Sausage Party did a shot-by-shot remake of the Jurassic World trailer using food. The people are made of hot dogs (and other edibles), the velociraptors are chicken patties, and in a genius move, the genetically-modified monster dinosaur Indominus Rex is …a dog! Of course, he has the perfect motivation to eat everyone else in the movie.

Beautiful Princess Leia Ball Gown

(Photo: Nelsphotos)

Everyone at the ball will stop in awe and wonder when Princess Leia arrives in this incredible gown by cosplayer Elizabeth Oldak. The skirt alone has 20 feet of fabric in it and her hair is styled perfectly as Leia appeared in Episode IV. No other Disney princess will be able to say that she is underdressed for formal parties, which in this case was Star Wars Celebration 2015.

Upcycled Star Wars Suitcase

Keri Houchin turned an old Samsonite suitcase from a thrift store into a one-of-a-kind gift for her nephew by making it into a Star Wars suitcase! From her description, it seems like a fairly simple way to “nerd up” a possession that people will see -and will be easy to spot on the luggage carousel at the airport. You’ll need some Star Wars fabric, a hot glue gun, and oh yeah, an old suitcase. Read the DIY process and see pictures at One Mama’s Daily Drama. -via The Mary Sue

This picture is from the Instagram account of Rosie Mac, who is the body double for Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen. You can see more pictures of body doubles from the series at Buzzfeed.

How The Avengers: Age Of Ultron Should Have Ended - Part One

How It Should Have Ended takes on the latest Marvel movie: The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. But wait! This says "part one." Are they going to show the end of the story? How would I know, since I haven’t seen the film? Is this going to make any sense at all?

(YouTube link)

Batman's Guide To Being The World's Greatest Detective

Batman holds the DC Universe title of world’s greatest detective, and his one man war on crime has made him a well-known figure in the world of superheroes, but is it appropriate to refer to him as a detective?

Detectives must follow procedure when investigating a crime scene, obtain warrants for arrest and definitely don’t fly superpowered jet planes in real life, so maybe it would be more appropriate to refer to ol’ Batsy as a superheroic spy guy.

Dorkly’s Andy Kluthe and Andrew Bridgman explore all the ways Batman truly sucks at being a detective in Batman's Guide To Being The World's Greatest Detective, which illustrates why the star of Detective Comics may be in need of a new title.

Cornelius Vanderbilt Wood, The Man Who Was Erased From Disney History

There’s a reason Walt Disney is virtually the only name you hear associated with the Disney company- he and his corporation went out of their way to erase certain key players so Walt got all the glory.

It happened to Ub Iwerks, the true creator of Mickey Mouse, and it apparently happened to the man in the middle of this photo as well.

His name is Cornelius Vanderbilt Wood, and he was seen as such an integral part of the Disney empire that Walt referred to him as “son”.

Cornelius was Disneyland’s first employee, he served as the park’s Vice President and General Manager, and yet six months after the opening of the park Wood was gone and quickly erased from the Disney history books.

So what happened to poor Cornelius? Read Cornelius Vanderbilt Wood: The Man Who Was Erased From Disney History at mental_floss and find out!

Amazing Flash Gordon Animated Short Created By Disney Artist

 photo 1247950178321756558_zpsb3jcq0xp.gif

Flash Gordon is one of those sci-fi heroes who has yet to make the transition into the 21st century, and yet those who remember the character fondly from the days of yore are always hopeful he will make a triumphant return to the big screen.

One extremely talented fan in particular by the name of Robb Pratt has taken matters into his own hands, bringing Flash back from the dead with this amazing animated short.

(YouTube Link)

Pratt has worked on Disney films like Pocahontas and Tarzan so it’s no wonder the short looks so darn good.

But my favorite part of this short is the fact that it’s not a modernized reboot, because can you truly claim to love a character when you completely change who they once were?

R2-D2 Goes On A Rampage In This Ridiculous LEGO Stop Motion Short

R2-D2 is one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars universe, and yet he’s often taken for granted by his fellow characters, even though he saves their Rebel butts more than a few times during the original trilogy.

Even a gentle and silly droid like R2 has his limits, and when those greedy litte Jawas push R2 too far he becomes a murderous mechanical madman hell bent on destruction.

This silly stop motion short, created by Brotherhood Workshop using LEGO, reveals why you should never pick on an R2 unit, proving resistance is futile when a droid is pushed too far…

An Eye Opening Interview With Clive Barker

Clive Barker has carved out his own niche in the horror world, with tales that were seen as extreme at the time of their release, and still cause controversy since they often incorporate Christian canon.

His stories have a raw edge that comes not from a life read about in books but rather from a life filled with unique experiences and pain.

His art is a reflection of his life in many ways, transforming over the last four decades from hard, seedy and utterly fringe to softened, more accessible, and (dare I say) kid friendly.

But if you've ever wondered about the man behind the dark tales, and how a Cenobite named Pinhead came to be horror royalty, then this interview he granted to Grantland is a must read.
