Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone As An R-Rated Movie

The Harry Potter series is meant to appeal to young adults, introducing teen and preteen readers to the fantasy genre while keeping the story YA friendly, but sometimes real life simply isn’t suitable for a general audience.

The world is generally an R-rated place, and to truly capture teens in an unedited format you’ve gotta go for the R.

The Fine Brothers have begun releasing a series of animated shorts that show what our favorite G and PG-rated movies would look like as R-rated films, starting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Despite the title, and aside from a little cartoon blood, it's SFW!

How Pixar Animators Handled The Problem Of McQueen Having No Hands

The idea for Pixar’s franchise Cars makes total sense now, but when the concept was first presented to the animators they weren’t sure what to make of the whole talking car thing.

The first problem- how does a car pick stuff up when their only appendage is an antenna?

(YouTube Link)

This amusing animated short reveals how animator Rob Gibbs and the rest of the Pixar creative crew developed an anthropomorphic car character into the McQueen we know and love today.

25 GIFs That Prove How Strange Japanese TV Can Be

 photo WXxU31S_zpsq8pdyha6.gif

(Image Link)

Saying Japan is strange nowadays is like saying rain is wet or the sun is warm, because everybody knows Japan loves the bizarre. But how do we further define that particularly Japanese style of strange?

 photo XOm8d_zpsstcbplos.gif

(Image Link)

While that strangeness may be hard to quantify this collection of creepy-crazy-WTF inducing GIFs put together by Dorkly is definitely a step in the right direction.

Next time someone expresses doubt that Japan is “as strange as they say” you can show them a GIF of a guy floating around shooting bananas out of his nostrils.

Well played, Japan! I’ll never look at a banana the same way again!

Don't Cry Over Spilled Coffee, Use It To Draw Monsters!

Sometimes all you need to create a great piece of art is a jumping off point, some sort of inspiration to get those creative wheels turning.

Many artists use reference photos for this exact reason, or come up with thumbnail sketches before they get down to work, but artist and copywriter Stefan just lets the coffee flow and sees where his artistic mind goes.

Stefan has discovered a love of drawing coffee-monsters, little impromptu illustrations that all start with spilled coffee, and now he can’t stop drawing and creating stories for the little stains.

Stefan's full blown art and caffeine addiction has led to over 480 coffee-monsters being born so far, and Stefan will continue to bring those java stains to life, and tell their story, as long as it makes him happy.

Ooh, look at the steampunk ghostbuster! I’d love to know how long it took to procure and assemble all those parts. Montreal Comic Con happened earlier than usual this year, but that didn’t stop the most dedicated and talented cosplayers from showing their stuff. There were planety of mashups, aliens, and mutants.

Yan from Geeks are Sexy was there, and took tons of pictures. He assures us a good time was had by all. The most interesting 37 costumes are posted in a gallery at Geeks Are Sexy, with more scheduled to come.

Meeting a celebrity face-to-face is a really big deal for some people, and while I’m more of the say “Hey, how ya doin?” and keep on walking kinda guy I say to each their own when it comes to fandom.

If you want to see a famous face and freak out that’s your prerogative, and celebs should appreciate the kudos even if they come with hysterical tears.

3 Librarians on Star Trek

What's all this doomsaying about libraries becoming obsolete? We know that libraries will thrive in the future because they're present in 23rd Century. In fact, Star Trek shows at least 3 librarians at work in the distant future.

In the original series episode "All Our Yesterdays," Kirk, Spock, and McCoy beam down to a seemingly vacant planet orbiting a star about to go nova. They discover that they are in a library. Despite the desperate circumstances, the librarian, who introduces himself as Mr. Atoz, is ready to help them.

Lifelong character actor Ian Wolfe, who plays Mr. Atoz, does a remarkably good job of carrying out a reference interview under conditions of extreme stress. He is friendly, welcoming, an advocate for the utility of libraries, and maintains the confidentiality of his patrons.

Batman vs. Joker in Stop-motion

It’s an action movie starring action figures! The fists and gadgets fly as Batman battles the Joker, and it gets more intense as they both bring out reinforcements. It eventually goes to old-school punching when they all run out of ammunition, but that's no less intense.

Awesome Images Of Pop Culture Icons Created Using Stock Photos

Photoshopped art pieces generally fall into two different categories- addition and subtraction. Either something is added to the original image or subtracted from it, which generally makes spotting a Photoshopped image quite easy.

But the digital artworks created by Jeff Chapman aren’t so easy to categorize, and the way Jeff creates these amazing looking images of iconic characters from pop culture is quite complicated.

Jeff uses various pieces from stock photographs, with some additional digital painting and visual effects, to create highly detailed images of strong and sexy pop culture superstars. Here's a glimpse into the making of this striking portrait of Elsa from Frozen:

Horror Villains Who Aren't As Bad As They Seem

Most horror movie villains epitomize evil, becoming the living embodiment of hatred, bloodlust, vengeance, anger or sheer psychopathia, but believe it or not there are some villains who simply don’t deserve all the hate.

These misunderstood monsters are simply acting on instinct, following their primal urges to devour primates who get in their way, or they’re simply searching for some existential thrills in their painful afterlife.

Cracked has put together a philosophically (and biologically) compelling article about 5 Horror Villains Who Aren't As Bad As They Seem, which may make you rethink your position on what makes a horror villain tick.

15 Albums That Cost Way Too Much Money To Make

Cost may not seem like a key factor in the recording of an album, as many artists are willing to show up and play for free if it means having an album recorded, but then the needless markups and inflated egos start jacking up the price.

Sadly, these costs often go to the recording staff, and the rental of the recording studio itself, and the artists see very little of the money used to record an album.

However, in the case of recording The Beach Boys album Smile, the star (Brian Wilson) was almost wholly responsible for the cost, which included:

an Arabian-style tent built in his house for the consumption of sandwiches, weed, and LSD, which ran $30,000 (about $220,000 now with inflation factored in). The placement of his piano in a sandbox filled with eight tons of premium beach sand could not have been cheap either. The economics behind "Good Vibrations," the song produced first and placed last on the track listing, was made public, approaching $75,000 ($550,000 today), including use of the Electro-Theremin itself (responsible for $15,000).

Nic Cage Stars In Game Of Thrones

Nicolas Cage is sort of like an everyman in Hollywood, except that every man he plays in a movie seems to be out of their minds!

That wild card personality is what we like about Nic Cage, and why we continue to tune in to see his latest performance even though most of his newer movies are virtually unwatchable.

The Game Of Thrones world is going through a major reconstruction after the season 5 finale, so maybe it’s time to bring Nic on board and revitalize the show with his signature smile and singular acting style.

Redditor CarlosDanger100 shows us what an all Nic Cage Game Of Thrones would look like, and I think I like it better already! -Via Relevant
