An Honest Trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road

What can Screen Junkies tear apart in the movie Mad Max: Fury Road? In this Honest Trailer, they are stretched pretty hard to find much to nitpick about. Well, there’s the fact that Max himself is pretty much superfluous to the film.

Oh, the movie isn’t perfect, but it was so much fun that even an Honest Trailer had to admit it was altogether a badass flick. The credits, full of puns and pop culture references, are the best part. -via Tastefully Offensive

Sliced Deadpool Table

Instructables member Britt Michelsen is a chemical engineer specializing in computational fluid dynamics. She's also a fangirl with incredible crafting skills. In the past, we've seen her edible Harry Potter wands, pixelated trashcan, and dead Kenny doorstop. Now she presents to the world a table that looks like it's levitating. Deadpool has cut straight through 2 legs, but it's still standing. In fact, an adult can sit on it without difficulty. That's because the 2 cut legs are decorative. The table stays up because the other legs have metal reinforcements that connect to a plate beneath the rug.

The Strange Origins Of Seven Pop Culture Franchises

Knowing the origin of a pop culture franchise probably won't change the way you feel about the franchise, but if you're as obsessive about your favorite stories as I am then you'll probably do some digging.

Researching will uncover simple roots for many franchises, but then there are franchises like Predator, Super Mario Bros., A Nightmare On Elm Street and Gilligan's Island that have some pretty unusual origin stories.

The 'shrooms that make Mario grow up big and strong in Super Mario Bros. look just like amanita muscaria, the hallucinogenic mushroom, so the game could be seen as one big 'shroom trip. Gilligan's Island also has a fairly simple origin- the islanders represent the seven deadly sins.

A Nightmare On Elm Street started with a news story about a deadly nightmare killing young men in southeast Asia during the 1970s and 80s.

Wes Craven read a news story about a bunch of young men who died of SUDS (sudden unexpected death syndrome) in their sleep, combined that with a bully from his childhood and Freddy Krueger was born.

And last but certainly not least there's Predator- the Rocky sequel we never knew we wanted until we saw it in theaters. Predator started as a running joke in Hollywood that said Rocky would have to fight an alien in Rocky V to top Rocky IV.

The Sad Truth About Today's World, Illustrated

Some people make societal and political statements with music, videos or the written word, but Steve Cutts makes these statements with comic illustrations.

But don't let the word “comic” fool you, because the artwork Cutts creates is less silly slapstick statement and more cutting commentary.

These are illustrated images for the disenfranchised, the down on their luck crowd with a dreary outlook on life.

Steve is an animator, illustrator, sculptor and cake maker, but he doesn't let those positive elements of his life blind him to the harsh realities of the modern world, because he feels bringing attention to these sad truths is the best way to initiate change.

Mad Max Ancient Mythology

Just what we needed- Mad Max: Fury Road rendered in ancient Egyptian-style! This work, called Complete Mad Max Mythology, is from Japanese artist Takumi. If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll recognize elements all over this “wall,” accompanied by runes that may or may not be hieroglyphs. See his drafts in black and white for a clearer study. -via Uproxx

Celebrity Feuds That Lasted Entire Careers

The life of a celebrity seems really far removed from the norm, and that detachment from normalcy makes it easy to assume celebrities have their own tight knit club of rich people who entertain normal people for a living.

But celebrities are often battling for the same spotlight, which can lead to rivalries and bitterness towards their fellow celebs, so friendship is the last thing famous people want from other famous folks.

They're also trying to maintain a carefully constructed image, one which is hopefully scandal free, so some celebs end up feuding with their own family members just to distance themselves from their sibling's scandals.

They Recycle Everything But The Badgers In The Big Field

What do you get when you combine pastoral images of the English countryside, cheap props bought on Ebay and a selection of audio snippets sourced from TV and old tapes?

You get a rather strange video called Badgers, part one of the "Big Field" series by Darren Dutton and Jonny Roberts.

(YouTube Link)

Badgers was created using only the finest recycled audio clips and funkiest props in order to maintain its unique flavor, and just when you least expect them the badgers finally appear...talk about your twist ending!

The Best Books Assigned in High School

Ernest Hemmingway is a great author, one of the handful of writers commonly assigned to high schoolers that I actually enjoyed reading. I'm sure many of you other heavy readers feel the same -books are great, but assigned reading isn't always so good. That's why I love this great list of the best books assigned in high school. I personally would add Catcher in the Rye, but as all these things are subjective, I know not everyone agrees. That's why I'm curious to know what you guys think -what's the best book you were assigned to read in high school?

Amazing Cosplay From Japan's Comiket 2015

(Image Link)

The Japanese have elevated cosplay to the level of fabrication artistry and attention to detail we know and love today, and even though the rest of the world is now on board Japanese cosplay is still a cut above the rest.

(Image Link)

Cosplay is everywhere in Japan, and it seems like every town and corporation has their own amazing looking mascot in Japan these days. But if you want to see the heart of Japanese cosplay you have to hit a fandom convention like Tokyo's Comiket (Comic Market).

(Image Link)

The cosplayers at this year's Comiket didn't disappoint, and it's interesting to note how much more “mascoty” their cosplay is when compared to the rest of the world.

Star Wars Warship vs. Manhattan

The Super Star Destroyers are enormous warships operated by the Empire. Although not invulnerable, they are terrifyingly huge and easily capable of individually destroying vast Rebel naval assets.

It's hard to get a sense of how massive they are from just watching Star Wars. Redditor movielover278 created this helpful digital image overlaying a Super Star Destroyer and the island of Manhattan.

Kid Turns Family Vacation Footage Into A Rap Video

Some parents still have a problem with their kids listening to rap music, and they don't see the appeal of those rap videos full of nothing but fancy vehicles and fast women.

So it comes as no surprise that a parent who doesn't appreciate rap would absolutely despise being put into a rap video without their consent.

But what's a kid supposed to do when he shot all this family vacation footage featuring his mom being a buzzkill and constantly shouting “slow down!”?

(YouTube Link)

You edit the footage into a trill rap video set to the tune of Clyde Carson's “Slow Down”. Mom hates the video, of course, but she should appreciate that her son Travis Henning has some serious video editing skills!

The Facts Behind Disneyland Urban Legends

We've featured a whole lot of Disneyland facts, but one thing we haven't yet discussed are the many urban legends surrounding the park. This great LAist article tackles the subject, and reveals that some of the strange stories you may have heard about the Happiest Place on earth are, in fact, true.

For example, the park is home to a large quantity of feral cats and people have been killed in multiple attactions across the park (though most were only declared dead at the hospital, which is the normal operating procedure for most hospitals -not a consipiracy on the part of Disneyland).

Jurassic World in 90 Seconds

BrotherhoodWorkshop condensed the movie Jurassic World down to only 90 seconds and rendered it in LEGO blocks and minifigs. Yep, the whole movie. And in the process, they made it into a comedy!

(YouTube link)

I guess I should warn you that this contains spoilers, duh. But I never saw the film, and this condensed version didn’t show me anything I didn’t already know about Jurassic World. -via 22 Words
