A Real Life Pokemon Gym Opens In Osaka, Japan

In their quest to completely blur the line between pop culture and reality the Japanese have been busy creating pop culture themed clubs, restaurants and parks, and now a Pokemon gym.

Looking for a way to capture that Pokemon feel so many have now grown up with, the "real life" Pokemon gym has everything a budding Trainer needs to live out their childhood dreams.

The Pokemon gym in Osaka has it all- battles, battles and, oh yeah, more battles!

But there's also areas where visitors can train for battle by learning how to Boxercise with Macho J, that's not quite the same as a battle, right?

And of course there's lots of amazing Pokemon flavored merch to purchase, including these cute Pikachu snack buckets, Pika-Juice and Pika-Pop Nuggets.

The lucky folks at Gigazine were some of the first people to visit the Pokemon Gym, and you can see all the great photos they took here.

Even if you're not a Pokemon fan you should take a look at the pics, because this is what the arcades of the future will look like.

The Inexplicable World Of Asian Nazi Chic

The Nazis are still widely condemned and despised to this day, and yet their influence can still be seen over seventy years after Hitler bit that big schnitzel in the sky.

There are Neo-Nazi hate groups, political organizations preaching Nazi ideology, and dumb racist parents who name their kid Adolf Hitler. And then there's the strange world of Nazi inspired Asian underground fashion, which tends to send mixed messages.

Asian Nazi Chic is possibly tongue-in-cheek, possibly retro militarism, possibly a strange form of cosplay, maybe all three or none of the above.

It's moderately offensive to Westerners, extremely offensive to the world’s Jewish population, but most Asian people don't seem to be offended by Hitler Chic.

In fact swastikas and images of Der Fuhrer are seen as a novelty in many Asian countries, which could lead to misunderstandings when tourists see people doing the Nazi salute on the sidewalk.

How to Avenge a Guy in 10 Days

What if Marvel made a romantic comedy? It could star the cast of The Avengers, since there are plenty of them! And more importantly, there are plenty of Avengers movies to take clips from in order to assemble such a movie.

Anime Recommendations and Open Thread

(The No Face t-shirt on sale at the NeatoShop)

Every few months, after watching more anime than is probably a good idea, I make viewing recommendations and ask Neatorama readers to suggest their own. Let's do it again!

When I first heard of School-Live, I didn't bother with it because, at only a glance, it looked like an insipid schoolgirl slice-of-life comedy.

Boy, was I wrong!

I'm glad that I took the advice of one of my students and watched School-Live. It's a brilliantly conceived and perfectly directed story. I don't want to say too much because it will give away the premise. But at the very end of the first episode, viewers realize something very important.

The main character, through whom we encounter the story, is an unreliable narrator. Her world is anything but happy and joyful.

Americans Watch Anime For The First Time

It's hard to imagine anybody who grew up watching cartoons in the last thirty five years or so could have completely avoided watching any anime, but believe it or not poor anime deprived souls are out there.

They have no idea what their eyeballs have been missing by not being exposed to anime, but now thanks to BuzzFeedVideo they've seen the light...and a few of them might be scarred for life because they watched Attack On Titan.

If you're an anime fan you might find this video exasperating, but thank your lucky stars you don't have to watch your favorite anime series with these vapid viewers!

A 2016 Presidential Election Themed Set Of Magic: The Gathering Cards

The 2016 presidential election looks like it will have more in common with a three ring circus than a serious political event to determine the fate of our country, and that may be a bit troubling for some.

For those dreading the electoral folly to come might I suggest thinking of the whole thing as a game of Magic: The Gathering, where hands are dealt, America's resources are tapped, and the creatures in play are the candidates themselves.

Gaming card design wizard/political satirist Mighty God King created this spot on 2016 Election themed set of Magic:The Gathering cards so we can choose the fate of our country the fun way- in a battle to the death!

What Items In Pokemon Would Look Like In Real Life

The cutesy look of the anime series Pokemon makes the strange items used by Trainers seem harmless, but when this gear is realistically rendered some of it starts to look a bit sinister.

In fact, if you think about the Pokemon universe in realistic terms what they're doing to those poor little pocket monsters is messed up!

The creators claim these items are imbued with a magical energy that gives them their powers, but there's nothing magical about pointing a loaded gun at another trainer's head and demanding extra prize money!

And then there are those "items" that we normally called drugs in real life-they make the most sense, because how else are you going to get a Pokemon to sit around inside that ball all day?

The Only Atari Cartridge You'll Ever Need

Those who have been obsessed with console gaming their whole lives have most likely gone through an Atari phase, where they found themselves digging on the simple graphics, strange game mechanics and large library of titles.

But now that we have emulators most gamers would rather have thousands of games sitting on their hard drive than a physical collection cluttering up their homes. But what if you want that console feel without all the clutter?

You need the Harmony Cartridge, which is basically an SD card adapter for the Atari 2600 console that lets you play every game in the library via one cartridge. So you still get the old console feel you love without the clutter.

The Search Continues For The San Jose Alien

On November 7, 2015 the search for alien life on Earth supposedly came to an end when this creepy little critter was found in a backyard in San Jose, California, soon after a strange explosion was seen in the night sky.

People began to wonder what that green explosion in the sky could have been, so naturally they thought "Aliens!", but the Government claimed the whole thing was just a missile test gone wrong.

If the Government was telling the truth, and that light was nothing but a missile igniting too early, then what did social media seeker of truth Gianna Peponis actually find?

(Image Link)

Logical folks claim it looks like some kind of malformed animal fetus, and the fact checking folks at Snopes declared the tale of the San Jose Alien to be FALSE.

But there are those who still believe the San Jose Alien is out there, waiting to prowl around our neighborhoods, probe our neighbors, and chow down on some California burritos.

Alan Moore's Bizarre And Brilliant Star Wars Comics From The 1980s

Alan Moore's mind works in ways we mere humans cannot begin to comprehend, so when he's given a cast of characters to play with that are both iconic and beloved he's bound to take their storylines in a bold new direction.

Back in the 1980s Alan was given the chance to write stories for five issues of various Star Wars comics, and as you'd expect his unique vision took the franchise to some strange new places.

With titles like "Tilotny Throws A Shape" and "Rust Never Sleeps" you know the mind of Moore is going to deliver a Star Wars story that's anything but standard:

Two stormtroopers stand outside Dhol's palace, guarding the strategic duel. Unfortunately for them, Clat the Shamer makes an appearance, tasked with the vanquishing of Lord Vader. His weapon of choice? Empathy! A sentient being with the ability to manipulate human thought, Clat disposes of Vader's guards by reaching inside their minds and excavating painstaking memories of their darkest, most diabolical deeds. These hellish flashbacks are too brutal to bear, prompting STORMTROOPER SUICIDE—one of them commits an act of samurai-like Seppuku via his lightsaber (!).

Ben McCool from Tech Times posted a fun to read synopsis of each issue here, including publication info and panels from the comics, that show how far, far away simply wasn't far enough for Alan Moore!

Pre-Fame Roles of Celebrities

We've all watched an older movie and had that moment of "OMG, I didn't realize so-and-so was in that." That's why I love this great Flavorwire article featuring 50 actors in some of their early, pre-fame movie roles. From Zooey Deschanel in Almost Famous to Laurence Fishburne in Apocalypse Now, it's funny how many stars are in big-name movies without actually being remembered for those roles. Of course, even those that you remember in those roles are fun to remember.

What We Are Thankful For

Superheroes have a lot to be thankful for on this holiday of gratitude. Especially Superman. He has been so blessed with superpowers! Still, listing all those things he is thankful for could be misconstrued as bragging. Well, maybe not misconstrued, because he is obviously bragging. But he does that a lot in the comic BatsVSupes. Thanksgiving is just another excuse. As for Batman, he’s thankful for whatever little appreciation he can get. -via Geeks Are Sexy

Carving the Turkey with a Lightsaber

Put that knife away. There's a smarter, quicker way of cutting a turkey. But don't pass the lightsaber to your drunk uncle. He'll just cut off one of your hands like at last Thanksgiving.
