His Favorite Star Wars Movie

A few days ago, Dogma mentioned that her granddaughter had only seen The Force Awakens and none of the other Star Wars movies. That just seems so cockeyed to us older fans, but it makes perfect sense for someone who is too young to have been around for the prequels, much less the original trilogy. Nevertheless, a real Star Wars fan would’ve felt a disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced, at the very minute this happened. This is the latest from Chris Hallbeck at Maximumble.

6 Star Wars Characters Meet Their New Equivalents

If you found The Force Awakens to be a bit familiar, you’re not the only one. There are a lot of elements that harken back to the original trilogy, and the various character types have many things in common with all adventure movies. Here they are, meeting each other, in this video that may contain spoilers for those who haven’t seen The Force Awakens. If you haven’t seen the original trilogy, this will spoil nothing.

Although the “equivalent” characters are superficially similar, they aren’t all that impressed with each other. -via Geeks Are Sexy

Incredibly Detailed Wood Models of Science Fiction Ships

Martin Creaney made his enormous and enormously detailed model of the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars out of 3,000 pieces of wood and using more different types of wood than he can now remember. And that's just the beginning of what he can do . . . .

Lightsaber Violin Cover of Star Wars Music

(Video Link)

Violinst Jeffrey Ding He built 4 lighsabers (Jedi are supposed to build their own, you know), and used them to play the Force theme from Episode IV. It's beautifully sad, majestic, and moving. The violin is a more elegant instrument for a more civilized age and He is its master. I definitely want him playing at my next colonoscopy.

Quentin Tarantino Confirms His Movies All Exist In The Same Universe

The characters in Quentin Tarantino's movies feel like part of the same universe, and whether the storyline takes place in the past or present certain key elements seem eerily similar in all of his films.

Tarantino also likes to include unifying elements that are obviously meant to be, like the Big Kahuna Burger or having a Vega brother in both Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, all leading to the unified Tarantino universe fan theory.

Quentin finally revealed the fan theory to be true during a recent interview on The Project, confirming that his movies all take place in the same cinematic universe, well, two universes to be precise.

(YouTube Link)

There's the "realer than real" universe, which is where all the characters live, and then there's the "movie" universe within the "realer" universe that serves as entertainment for the characters.

Which is why Uma Thurman's "realer" character in Pulp Fiction describes the plot to Kill Bill to Vincent Vega when talking about her favorite TV show Fox Force Five...is your brain smoking yet?

The 10 Best Superhero Performances in Movies

Here’s something that fans can argue about for days. Who portrayed Batman the best? I am partial to Michael Keaton, but that may just be an artifact of my age (and the fact that I still haven’t seen The Dark Knight). You may prefer Christian Bale or even Adam West or Val Kilmer. What if none of them made this list of the ten best superhero performances in movies? There are also plenty of actors who’ve played Superman, not to mention the Avengers, X-men, Spider-Man, and so many other superheroes on film. The list isn’t ranked, but if your favorite made it on there at all, you can pat yourself on the back for your good taste.

The picture here? Well, I have taste, too.

Seven Stories Stephen King Refuses To Publish

Stephen King is the most successful, and one of the most prolific, horror writers of all time, and yet he'll readily admit when something he's written simply shouldn't be put into print.

You can't blame the guy for batting less than a thousand, it's honestly quite remarkable that Stephen King still has so many amazing stories in him considering he wrote his first novel The Aftermath when he was just 16 years old.

(Image Link)

The Aftermath tops the list of stories never to be published because King considers his first novel, which is about an apocalyptic survivor trying to sabotage a military force made up of aliens in disguise, a juvenile attempt at novel writing.

The manuscript rests under lock and key in the Fogler Archive at the University of Maine alongside a short story he helped his son Owen write called I Hate Mondays, which is, strangely enough, not about Garfield the cat:

I Hate Mondays, a short story about two misfits who are kidnapped by a goon named Doctor Mindbender and forced to give up the combination to a safe.

What If Hollywood Rebooted NickToons From The 90s?

The 90s are all the rage with the kids these days, which means those NickToons we all loved when we were young(er) will inevitably be rebooted hard by Big Hollywood someday soon.

Directors like Michael Bay, Quentin Tarantino and Judd Apatow are lining up to take a crack at a NickToon reboot, yeah I said Judd Apatow, who else could possibly direct the dark rom-com update of Hey Arnold!?

Illuminating illustrator Mady G. created these guaranteed to be better than the actual reboot movie posters and I have to admit she has sold me on the idea of a gritty CatDog reboot...

A Map Of The Most Popular Fictional Characters From Every State

You probably already know Marty McFly is from Hill Valley, California and Family Guy's Peter Griffin is from Quahog, Rhode Island, but did you know Rambo is from Bowie, Arizona?

Charlie Brown is from Minnesota because that's where creator Charles Schulz is from, and Chilly Willy is from Alaska because of course he is.

But this map created by Playboy showing The Most Popular Fictional Characters From Every State claims Barbie is from New York.

That's presumably because she made her first appearance at the American International Toy Fair in New York, but the official Barbie site lists her hometown as (fictional) Willows, Wisconsin.

Next you'll be telling me Hannah Montana isn't even from Montana...oh wait, it says here she's originally from Tennessee...

The Sailor Scouts Scaled to the Relative Sizes of Their Planets

50 moons could fit inside the Earth and 1,321 Earths could fit inside Jupiter, so Sailor Jupiter is 66,050 times the size of Sailor Moon. This chart by Twitter member Sario572 scales the Sailor Scouts in the anime series Sailor Moon to the relative size of the planets that they represent.

From right to left, they are Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Saturn, Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, Sailor Venus, Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Moon, and . . . I honesty don't know about the last two.

You can see a much larger version here.

Only Six Actors Have Ever Been Nominated Twice For The Same Role

Actors who win an Oscar are either lucky or part of a rigged process, depending on how you view the Academy and the way they've voted in the past, but winning an Oscar more than once sure makes you seem lucky.

And if that's true then actors who are nominated twice for the same role are surely the luckiest of them all.

And while nobody has ever won two Oscars for playing the same character only six actors have ever received more than one Academy Award nomination for playing the same role.

This year Sylvester Stallone was nominated for playing Rocky Balboa in Creedis, becoming the sixth star to join this super exclusive club that includes Paul Newman, Al Pacino, Peter O'Toole, Bing Crosby and Cate Blanchett.

22 Things You See In Nearly Every Roleplaying Game

Most roleplaying games either totally railroad the player, like the Final Fantasy series, or they let the player do what they please in an open world, like the Fallout or Elder Scrolls series.

Though seemingly as different as can be both types of RPGs, and pretty much all video games with roleplaying elements, have some rather comical elements in common.

There's the party member who dies in the storyline despite having been resurrected dozens of times in battle, the armor that turns into a bikini when equipped on a female character, and the sewer full of hidden treasures.

Because every stinky sewer must be full of hidden gems, right?

BB-8 Snowdroid

8 inches of snow has fallen on Nashville, Tennessee. So when life hands you snow, make snowmen. Jeremy Skates and his friend made this BB-8 droid from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Hopefully he can roll through snow as easily as he traverses the sand on Jakku.

Harry Potter Dungeons & Dragons Character Sheets

No, Harry, you're not a wizard. Strictly speaking, under Dungeons & Dragons rules, Harry Potter would be classed as a sorcerer with a wild magic specialization. Ailea Merriam-Pigg explains:

Non-dragonborn sorcerers utilize wild magic, which can often leads to strange things happening. Since Harry’s known for accidentally making glass disappear, blowing up his aunt, and, oh, you know, burning someone’s face off with his hands, a wild magic sorcerer is perfect. Harry’s standard for battles is basically holding on until he wins, so his constitution is one of his highest stats.

Merriam-Pigg has composed complete character sheets for Harry, Hermione, Ron, Neville, Draco, and Dumbledore. You can view them all here and, as Merriam-Pigg suggests, play them in your next campaign!

Photographs Reveal What Actors See When They're On The Stage

Leipzig Opera House

The stage is set up to give an audience the best possible view of a performance, while likewise affording the actors a view of virtually every face in the audience, which must be overwhelming for some when the spotlights come on.

Theater Gütersloh

But there's something beautiful about that window full of waiting faces that must likewise captivate an actor, because many of the theaters photographed by Klaus Frahm are quite nice to look at whether you're the actor or the audience.

Magravial Opera House, Bayreuth

Klaus Frahm's images take us beyond the fourth wall in a whole new way, showing us what actors see when they walk out on the stage and grace the public with their performance.
