Baby Born on Snow Sled

Shirley Bonanni of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, went into labor Thursday. Before she and her husband Fabian could go to the hospital, they waited for Fabian's parents to come and stay with their two-year-old son. By the time they arrived, after dealing with snow-covered roads, Shirley was so far along in labor that she couldn't walk. The car was down at the bottom of the hill, because the road was too slippery to get it up to the house. At this point, the normal thing to do would be to keep the mother in the house and call for emergency help. But Fabian got a snow sled to take her to the car.

The baby couldn't wait, and came into the world as her mother was being transported.
Neighbor George Leader saw the commotion outside, heard Shirley yelling, and called 911.

"I was on the phone with 911, talking him through it and he certainly delivered his own baby, right there, on the side of the road," Leader said.

Fabian ran the baby -- wrapped in blankets back up to their house. The new Grandma and Grandpa -- who'd watched the birth -- helped George and his roommate carry Shirley, still on the sled, into their house to keep warm.

An ambulance arrived later to take mother and daughter to a hospital for observation. Little Bella Sophia Bonanni is doing well. After the publicity of the birth, Firestone is giving the family four new snow tires so this won't happen again. -via Arbroath

Little Boy, Big Fire

Here's a sweet and simple story about a boy and a fireman. Paul Hashagen is a firefighter in Long Island, New York. One day he was watching his 8-year-old grandson Matthew Smith, who was out of school with an illness, when a fire call came in. Hashagen leapt into action, taking Matthew with him.

The fire was serious, so he parked Matthew in a fire truck to wait. Matthew had never been to a fire before, and was forbidden to leave the truck, but still found a way to be useful. You can probably tell how by the picture, but you should really go read the entire story at The Daily Beast.

Dreamlike Photos Of Life On A Russian Farm

Idyllic scenes abound in this series of photographs by Elena Shumilova, which consists of portraits of her two boys Yaroslav and Vanya, and the animals they love on their family farm in Russia.

Elena took up photography in 2012 in order to document her boys as they were growing up, and the amazingly close relationship they have with the animals on the farm. The warmth of the natural lighting and the wonderfully lush environment that surrounds them makes each pic feel like a private glimpse into the moment a mystical bond is formed between child and critter.

Elena obviously puts a lot of love into her works, and it will be a delight to see which captured moments of her rustic life she chooses to share with the world through her photography in the coming years.

Laser Cut Book Pages Tell A Story With Images Instead Of Words

When you open a book made by Japanese artist Yusuke Oono you won’t find chapters, or titles or words of any kind. The only words to read on these books are the titles emblazoned across their bright covers, with names like In A Cheese and Jungle Book, titles that give you a clue about what you’ll find between two colorful covers.

So what do you find inside these colorful books if not words divided into paragraphs and chapters? Magic, that’s what, a bunch of laser cut pages depicting whimsical scenes that make the inside of these books look like a magical place for your imagination to visit.

Affidavit for the Tooth Fairy

Emily McKenna Winter is a comedian. She apparently comes from a line of comedically-gifted people. When she was a child, her parents, who were both lawyers, compelled her to sign an affidavit for the Tooth Fairy.

The story goes that one of her teeth fell out. But she lost it in a bowl of cereal, so she couldn't turn it in to the Tooth Fairy for cash. So her parents drafted an affidavit attesting under penalty of perjury that she had indeed lost a tooth and requested that the Tooth Fairy accept the document in lieu of the tooth. If the Tooth Fairy agreed, Emily would not seek further remuneration should she locate the lost tooth.

Ask Dumb Questions, Get Dumb Answers

It's common for daycare businesses to learn about the interests and habits of children who enroll. One daycare manager gave a friend of redditor JesadBellic this form to fill out when he enrolled his daughter, Emma, in the school.

Emma is 11 months old.

So some of these questions are probably not relevant to a child of that age. You can see a larger view of the responses here.

Cabbage Patch Kids-Inspired Hats

Aren't these little beauties adorable? They look just like Cabbage Patch Kids! Well, to be honest, the real babies are much cuter than the toys, but their yarn hats that resemble wigs go a long way toward making them into little dolls. It works best if your child is chubby-cheeked already. The patterns for these knit and/or crochet caps come from several sources, which you can find at Diply.

And twenty years from now, after they get over the humiliation, these kids will post the pictures on the internet where everyone will laugh and pass them around until they are viral all over again. -via Geeks Are Sexy
