This $309 Chandelier Is Now Selling For Millions

Now, this person just really got a good find. A man was reported to have bought a chandelier that looks like the work of Swiss sculptor and painter Giacometti for only £250 ($309). The lucky finder was British painter John Craxton, who found the art piece during the 1960s.

As to why it is being sold just right now, his estate decide to sell the work, more than a decade after his death.

The artist was known for his elongated figure sculptures and his unique pieces that were inspired and influenced by the Surrealism art movement. The chandelier, with its bronze and golden-brown patina, is measured to be 53 inches tall and 60 inches wide.

Christie’s estimate is that the fixture will be sold for around $1.9 million-$3.7 million in their February 28 auction.

Something I was thinking about earlier today: the value of rare things after purchase. What I mean is: you buy something like this because its rare or what its made of or whatever right? But my question is, will something like this bring you 1.9 million of happiness after you purchase it? But then there's some people who probably buy things like this for the future value of it. But anyway, its an interesting thought experiment. I mean, if you think about it, there are millions of rare things made every day. Rare meaning "1 of 1". And yet we don't value those things the same as other things. Even if the two things are objectively similiar in materials or rarity or talent. Anyway, its funny how things rise to the top when other similiar things don't.
