This Is a Librarian's Uniform

The ideal librarian uniform is refined, dignified, and allows for easy body movements for our profession's complex martial arts moves.* Hence the design worn by librarians during the Nineteenth Century at the National Library of Spain in Madrid.

*Thus we are pants-free.

Complex martial arts moves? I think I'd like to be a librarian in Spain. In Australia we only did stuff with books, magazines and computers. Complex martial arts moves would have been seriously frowned upon. Except for when someone came in asking for a book with a blue cover.

I believe they wore black riding breeches and boots, like the riders of the  Jerez de la Frontera, School of Equestrian Art. Stylish, easy to move in, and boots for kicking those who fold over pages to mark their place in books.
