As a Robert, this is 100% Correct. I started my "Robert" period early as my dad is both Rob & Robbie (hoarding all the COOL names!) and my grandfather was Bob. My niece calls me Bobbobbob though.

I've been Robert all along; my parents fought to keep my name from being shortened when I was a kid, and I stuck with it.

My brother uses the name Brother Bill when commenting on any of the sites I post on. Some of the older relatives in the family still call him Billy like when he was a kid. He told his wife (when they first met) that his name is William and that's what she calls him, even 20 years later, which is totally foreign to the rest of the family.

My 92-year-old grandpa is the only person who is allowed to call me Abigail.
