How the Panama Canal Works

You knew that the Panama Canal was a colossal project, but this video from Wendover Productions gives us a taste of how huge the global shipping industry is. Imagine calculating whether it is worth paying millions of dollars in canal toll fees for one ship versus sailing pretty much around the world. The canal unveiled newer, bigger locks in 2016 that created new businesses in the Caribbean and sparked a huge construction project in New Jersey. The numbers in the lower left corner are footnotes, with links to the sources in the description at the YouTube page. The last minute of this video is an ad. -via Boing Boing
