An Amoeba Holds the Solution to the Traveling Salesman Problem?

To think that single-celled organisms actually have a greater capacity at computations than the best computers that we have right now. But why? Why does an amoeba that seemingly shouldn't have the capacity for high-level math find a solution to the biggest problem in computer science?

This is uber-cool! The amoeba sending tendrils towards food while avoiding light has some interesting implications: 1) using amoebae in technology (get those brain cells a-firin', folks!) and 2) replicating what it does with a computer program.

This is n excellent example of why the human brain is such a superior thinking device. It has the ability to use computational methods as well as organic ones. And, just to be pedantic, the slime mold solved the problem once a set of researchers set it up in a way that it could be solved. The slime mold is just a member of a very talented team.
